Wow - three replies in less than an hour!  Thank you so much for being so friendly to the newbie!  Your responses were really helpful.  I emailed L'Occitane and asked whether they had any products to address my concerns re: sun discoloration and aging, and they responded within minutes offering to send me a sample from their Immortale Brightening line.  I love this approach, since I often find the BRANDS in birchbox that I'd like to try, but I don't necessarily get the products from those brands that would be of the most interest to me.

I wonder if we can start a site with reviews of all the products! I'd love to hear about those... I'm looking to get into more natural beauty stuff!
the 100% pure mask gets veryy veryy tight

I emailed Jouer earlier this week through their contact us form on the website. I'm just wondering if maybe I should have emailed them through the customer service email instead. Any thoughts? I know people usually hear back from them within 24-48 hours.

Hello - I have to admit that I'm a longtime makeuptalk lurker, first time poster.  (In fact, I created the account just so I could start posting.)

So I'm curious for details.  When you email these companies, do you just use a generic request, as in "Hello, I was wondering if you offer any free samples because I would love to try your products.  I'll be sure to post reviews on makeup review websites after I've tried them."

Or do you tailor each request, as in "Hi.  I'm really interested in your anti-aging sun damage reversal serum and your wrinkle free moisturizer because .....  Is there anywhere I could try these products, or could I get samples of them?"

Sorry to be so detail-oriented, but I've never been good at asking people for stuff (which is why I like BirchBox, because I don't feel intimidated to ask for anything).
I send something like this:

I am very interested in trying out your products.  I am wondering if you have any samples of the different products that I could try before I purchase. I have read and watched  reviews of your products and I would like to try them and submit my own reviews.Thank you for your time,

Today was another awesome mail day. My Conscious Box came as well as samples from Ole Henrikson & Jane Iredale. Yesterday my Birchbox arrived. I was more excited about the samples that I got for free from 100%Pure  than the box I paid $10 for. As soon as I review and spend my points this month I'm canceling Birchbox. After getting better samples (that I will actually use)  for free from companies just by sending an email I decided to save my money and cut loose from Birchbox and not be repeatedly disappointed (fashion tape.. REALLY??). I've sent emails to companies that had products in BB boxes that I had hoped to get. And the companies have sent me product samples. Such as Caudalie, Boscia, Ole Henrikson, Per-fekt. You get the picture.  Sorry about the BB rant.

Anyways back to the samples:

Here is what came from Ole Henrikson

And Jane Iredale (there was a handwritten note included)

I heard from Suki skincare they don't send out samples but you could call and order custom sample size assortments (2-5 use 1ml satchels). you can mix & match products according to your preferences, needs & goals. choose from:

â— 10 samples for $9.95â— 20 samples for $19.95â— 30 samples for $29.95

I love being able to see that they do IN FACT have samples of The BB Cream, the Dream Tint and the Amazing Base that I asked about, after being told they don't offer any samples. Thanks a lot Martha! >:|   /end sarcasm.

Meh.

Wait it out... I thought they had totally ignored me, and then I got an email back at some point and got to try some glosses and LMT. Their CS reps are really awesome.

Has anyone received their samples from Jouer?  The CS Rep I spoke to (who was really nice) told me she was going to send out samples but I have yet to receive them. I was just wondering how long it took to get them?  Thanks

Another MUT and I have yet to receive the 2 or 3 times they claimed to have shipped our samples! I hope that doesn't happen to you!

I got some from them a few weeks ago and they're sending me the Matte Moisture Tint so I can figure out my shade.

I'd contact them again if it's been a while.

It's been about 2 weeks and I kind of feel bad emailing her although she was really helpful and friendly. I just figured I'd have them by now. thanks.

I hope it doesn't happen to me either. Thanks!

I got my Oil Free Moisturizer from Juice Beauty yesterday. A tiny sample packet. No need for a pic. Visualize the tininess lol

 Arcona, Jurlique & Sabon

Caldrea, Malin + Goetz & Oribe

I'm feeling a little sampled out!

I contacted them through their email four days ago and haven't received a reply yet either so I don't think it matters how you try to contact them :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />.

I would give all of these make-up companies the benefit of the doubt this week because so many of them have been involved in Fashion Week in various ways. I have a friend who works for a company that's only tangientially related to the fashion world, but because of the trickle-down effect, even she's been swamped and hasn't had a free moment all week.

Oribe and Jane Iredale!

My sample stash is growing faster than I can use them! Can't stop sampling.....

If you have a spare second in your day, definitely give Boscia a call.  For $2.50 (shipping) I'm getting 6 samples...not too shabby I think.
