Yes I would have spent the same amount, but some people "stocked up" or as in my case I purchased many gifts to hit Rouge. About $450 in fragrance gifts for family and clients. I would not have done that...

I NEVER have trouble hitting $50 in a purchase and really I doubt anyone who is Rouge does, how else do you spend $1000 on makeup???
I think it just depends on your shopping habits. I'm the kind of person that I like to make frequent (and I mean frequent) purchases of $30 or less. Also, most of my high value purchases are in-store so I actually find it difficult to make a $50 order since I normally order one item at a time online. The only times I order more than one item is during sales, but again I like to go in-store because I hate waiting for packages-plus I hate paying for shipping. I probably spend 1/3-1/2 of the $1000 requirement during the sales.

I think "competitive reasons" is bunk. They are trying to build Hype and in truth it works, I know I've been checking daily to see what "ChicWeek" is going to deliver. Ulta thinks up to 50% off some really sought after products will get people interested and Sephora thinks keeping people guessing will get people interested, lets hope they deliver!

What I don't get is how Sephora treats VIB Rouge, supposedly their most VALUED customers, like we're not worthy of the pedestal that THEY PUT US ON.  15% off for Chic Week?  Seriously?  That's not even worth my time.  I get better deals from my local Starbucks, at least they reward me with a free drink/food of my choosing every time I hit 12 gold stars.  Tell me THAT'S not incentive to go on a daily basis!  Heck Macy's has a 20-25% off coupon in the Sunday paper on a weekly basis.  That makes me want to shop more often!

Yet Sephora continues to pull a "stick around, wait and see" approach that is frankly, a slap in the face.  $1,000 a year is nothing to joke about.  I could be spending that money elsewhere, as I am sure many of you feel the same.  I've never heard of Ulta before (I don't believe we have one in Hawai'i), but after seeing all the chatter on this message board, I checked them out online and WOW.  You can tell by the number of freebies and deals that they are definitely focused on making their customers happy.

My mom and I are both Rouge members and have been since Oct. 2013.  Here we are now, almost 6 months in, and we have nothing to show for it other than one Rouge Event at the Ala Moana location and free shipping.  Pathetic.

i was told explicitly this past sunday by a woman at the sephora in natick mall near boston that there is a 'private shopping' event for vib rouge members.

all they are doing is opening at 9am. she acted like this was some big deal.

also, she was super awkward and rude about me trying on what she thought was going to be the wrong shade of concealer but i knew what i was doing and it was perfect. it doesn't matter but it was just super awkward trying to do something in front of the mirror with my boyfriend waiting.

my opinion: we should definitely get 20% off. for some reason, i thought that's what we're getting.

someone posted about getting a ton of nars freebies and another posted about a free laura mercier lip gloss with an order. this sounds great, but it's no different than sephora sending a handful of rouge members a free lipstick. yeah, it's awesome, but probably 0.0001% of rouge members got that.

the only reason i'm still shopping sephora is because i don't have a nordstrom close by and generally don't like shopping cosmetic counters (very pushy, can't just pick something up and put it back several times while debating how much to spend that day/what your priorities are/most wanted items/walking around to several brands/feeling like you have to defend yourself or make excuses not to purchase something/beg for samples/go through tons of work for samples etc). i also don't like the limitations of brands at ulta, especially for skin care. considering skin care, it's REALLY important to me to be able to bounce between tons of products and getting info from each. i'm pretty set on what i like and it comes from sephora. that being said, i know some people must do all of their research online before heading to department stores, but even then, you mostly find what you already knew about/were already interested in; it's a lot harder to stumble across products you've never heard of. counters also mean you don't have access to staff that will readily switch between brands helping you. honestly, the $20 off your first day of opening an account sounds great but spending $1000 (to get 2000 points regardless of triple point days) for a $20 certificate- these rewards actually aren't as good as sephora's (20 off 50 in december, 20% off in november, 15% off march/april, 10% off one order annually, triple/quadruple point days).  there are too many cons to shopping counters and not any benefits over sephora and ulta lacks in brands. i agree people freaking HATE sephora's PR fail/rouge joke, but we love our products and despite the disappointments, it's still the best beauty store.

Maybe best all in one shopping but between Nordstrom and Ulta together, I get many more deluxe samples of things to try and better deals. Ulta sends out a 20% coupon for everything at least twice a year and gives you $3 for every hundred points(if i spent my $1000 there would be at least $30 off no minimum purchase required). I'm definitely reviewing my Sephora purchases more this year and finding I can get better or similar somewhere else I just might have to wait for GWP or sales events that give me the most bang for my buck. I do shop almost exclusively online though.

Thanks for posting, I didn't get this yet.

the bag seems nice enough to me, although it specifies that they are 6 "one time use" samples, which isn't terrible exciting to me, as i assume that means plenty of foils.

ETA: got this off beauty talk, not via email.

i don't think they meant just 6 samples, but they did only list 6 brands. Maybe they're trying to be vague since not every store will offer the same things?

true, it could be more than 6.  i'm just not trying to get my hopes up too high as these days i rarely get more than i'm expecting.  but the more the merrier!

also noted that it's with any purchase - so not technically "free", but if there's no minimum i'm happy enough.

Did you guys get an email with a rougebday code? It's good for this years bday gift with the extra liner for rouge. I used it with a small purchase so I don't think it has a minimum but it's one time only.

Hopefully there is an online gift too. I'm probably not going to get up early on a Sunday to drive an hour to the nearest Sephora.

FYI, one of the things that came out at that "Live Chat" earlier in the week is that Sephora management seemed completely clueless about the Rouge email issues.  As part of the "solution" They said they would be posting Rouge "events" -- which might include special codes, etc. -- on Beauty Talk as far in advance as they could so as not to create "competitive" issues.

So it might be worth checking into Beauty Talk periodically to see if anything is new.  Thanks for posting here, Amidea.

From the Terms & Conditions:

"Online, use promo code ROUGETICKET. VALID MARCH 30, 2014 THROUGH APRIL 11, 2014, AT 11:59 PM PST." and ...

"Free Sephora Cosmetic Bag and samples valid only during the in-store event on Sunday, March 30, 2014 or while supplies last, with any merchandise purchase."

So, to sum up, there's a different on-line code for Rouges, but we still get the same 15% discount as regular VIBs.

And you have to go to Sephora in person AND make a purchase to get the "free" bag and samples.

And Sephora wonders why Rouge follks aren't thrilled to death with this ...

the bag actually looks nice! i hope it IS good quality! good thing there is an online code. thank you so much @jennm149  for posting this! (oohhh...i see, the bag is ONLY in store.. )

Well, I'm not bothering to drive to a Sephora now to pick up a bag and 6 one-time use samples if I find something to purchase. I was hoping the Rouge surprise would be better.
