I would really like to see what this super secret VIB Rouge chic week event will be or if it's just another ploy for people to spend money to get a "complimentary" gift.
I heard that Rouge members get a free tote and there will be a special time on March 30th when only Rouge members can shop. Totally not worth it to me.

Hi Missie772,

We do have some exciting news to share with you today. Many of you have been waiting anxiously for our yearly 15% savings event, and it’s coming up right around the corner. VIB Rouge will have several extra days to shop before VIBs and Beauty Insiders, a very special and private in-store event on the first day, and other fun surprises. The exact dates and details will be made available later this week via email and on the BeautyTalk Rouge board.

IF one of the stores that aren't too far from me have something on the "first day" -- which she was still coy about despite the fact that people were pretty clear that they know whn the starting day is -- I might go to it.  But this does indicate more than a few hours of extra shopping time before the rush opens.

ETA:  Saw this a little further on:

Hi oklady2013 - The Rouge date is March 30, which is early access. VIBs and BIs will not be able to shop until days later.

I didn't have to return the broken powder. Their shipping is fast (but I live near their shipping center). I usually just buy MAC there but I might start buying other brands there too.

Their triple points days are March 19 (I think?) - 23 for those who have a Nordstrom card.

I have just recently switched most of my beauty buys to Nordstrom and I am a huge fan.  It's always free shipping, no minimum.  And you can always get makeovers at their counters.  So the two big "perks" Sephora is offering for Rogue are always available at Nordstrom, no matter your past purchase history.

They don't seem to offer as many GWP's for the $25 and $50 orders as Sephora does.  But I have found that by shopping in store and getting to know my sales associates, the freebies they offer me are much more attractive and are of the brands I already use.  I was in a couple of weeks ago to book my pre-sells for the triple point event that starts on Wed. At the NARS counter alone, she gave me two full size nail polishes, a .52 oz tube of the luminous moisture cream, two sample bottles and one travel size bottle of eye makeup remover and several foils of tinted moisturizer.

This weekend they do have a Beauty Event to go along with the triple points.  The first 100 women in the door are getting some type of samples gift.  Most of the counters have good GWP's and some of them have second GWP's if you have a Nordstrom card.

I don't carry credit cards, but Nordstrom offers a debit card as well.  The debit card offers the same perks.  If you spend $100 the day you open your account you automatically get a $20 certificate sent to you.  You earn another $20 for each 2000 points.  Points are given at 2 for each dollar you spend.  They have double and triple point events throughout the year.  And one of the best perks is you get $100 in free alterations per year.  You pay for your alterations at the time you have them done, so you still get your points.  And then they reimburse you for what you spent on the alterations.  You also get points for purchases at Nordstrom Rack and on Hautelook.

That's an awesome GWP!!!

I enjoy shopping at counters at department store so much more than stores like Sephora. I get more personalized (and better) service and a better selection of products. When I ask for a recommendation at Sephora, the SA says "This is our best selling product!" or "This is what everyone else loves!". At department stores, it's "What finish are you looking for?" and "Let's see how this looks on you." I recently purchased something from Chanel and the salesperson gave me a bunch of freebies (there was no official promo going on or anything).

I have the Nordstrom Debit card. They gave me a Nordstrom Note ($20) after making my first purchase. I didn't know I could earn points on Hautelook.

Thanks for the Nordstrom info, I had no idea about the benefits of shopping there :)

If that is true, that is very sad

I won't be making a trip in if that ends up being the case.

Sephora needs to realize they have competition. I knew of some of those perks but thanks for the full breakdown!

Bingo.  I hate to say it but I can almost see Sephora hitting a situation like other retailers where customers simply get fed up with the company and major changes are needed to overhaul public perception and get sales back.  Maybe not in the near future, but if they fail to offer comparable perks and service they're going to really find themselves in a terrible situation eventually.  People generally are starting to recover from the recession and have more disposable income to spend on things like beauty products, and they will quickly find that Sephora simply isn't the only place to buy these things.

I'm not VIB-R but it seems like rolling out Rouge was a mistake because people felt they were promised something and now are disappointed. I wonder if people would be this upset if VIB was the only level above BI, and VIB-R was never even mentioned.

It would be different if Rouge rolled out with existing incentives, but it appears very pre-mature to me. IMO they shouldn't have mentioned it until they were really ready to do something with the program.

For me, not at all. I had zero problems with VIB. I think the issues people are having is it promised so much....and it's basically amounted to VIB + free shipping, which is nice, but not worth $650 to me. I agree they rolled this out wayyyy to fast without thinking things through. I'll shop the sales at Sephora, but Ulta's going to get the bulk of my money for the rest of the year.

I thought the chat yesterday was fine (except for the format). They asked lots of questions and people were able to answer. Hopefully they will take that and do something with it! I'm not really sure what people were expecting her to say?

Agree with this!! The free shipping is nice to have, but before Rouge, I was still making $50+ orders for free shipping. Not to mention, the people who were able to get Flash did not have to spend nearly as much for it. I was fine with VIB, but when I reached Rouge status, I also received a notification of all these awesome things that were going to come with it. The Rouge-only codes that came out even had an increased minimum of $35 instead of the usual $25.

Part of what I'm confused about is your statement that "It's not worth $650 to me." I know I'm coming across as rude, but... you didn't pay $650 for it :/ You bought $650 worth of makeup/skincare/haircare and they made up an imaginary title for that. If they hadn't even made up that imaginary title, would you still be happily spending the same amount as you had before? Or you're upset that you were promised something that wasn't delivered, and now you're taking your money elsewhere?

I suppose if someone had specifically made it to Rouge just for the level and didn't care anything about the merchandise they purchased, that would be one thing. But I doubt many people would do that.

I'm not trying to cause a problem, I'm just trying to understand. It seems like they shot themselves in the foot on this one and are losing some of their best customers to Ulta, Nordstrom, etc.

i think the problem was that sephora's answers are not anything concrete. they kind of just gave general answers, but no specific plans...so in the end, it doesn't feel like something has been accomplished. i'm not mad at sephora or anything, but personally, i thought the answers sounded like those automatic reply emails from any customer service..

I can see it both ways: Yes I would have spent the same amount, but some people "stocked up" or as in my case I purchased many gifts to hit Rouge. About $450 in fragrance gifts for family and clients. I would not have done that... I NEVER have trouble hitting $50 in a purchase and really I doubt anyone who is Rouge does, how else do you spend $1000 on makeup???

Promised and wasn't delivered is my thing. Sure, I got stuff for it, but I also made a consious choice to buy at Sephora vs other stores (ex: Nordstrom who would give me free shipping from the first time I ordered) with the thought process of "Oh, well, if I buy it at Sephora I'll get all this awesome stuff they're promising as part of being rouge!" I have an Ulta 1/2 a mile from my house. Part of my choice to buy at Sephora vs. other retailers who consistently have better deals, better GWP's etc.  was them putting all this hype around Rouge when it launched last year. I just feel like it hasn't delivered.  And no, you didn't come across as rude at all :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

True but what if they can't really say anything? I know we like to dig for any detail to find out things just as soon as we can, but a lot of places like to keep their special events and stuff under wraps until they are ready to announce it. Like Chic Week. I know a few years ago everyone was screaming about the VIB event because it hadn't been formally announced. Someone from Sephora actually commented that they formally announce things when they do to keep info from competitors. Even if it's every year at the same time, they aren't going to announce something more than a few days before. They did say something about a warehouse sale but they were having problems with it, so that's promising. I think some good progress was made though. Now they know more of what we expect and they can either raise the bar or if they decide we are asking too much, just cancel the whole thing all together. VIB Rouge has not lived up to my expectations, but at least now they know what those expectations are.

This is probably one of my biggest frustrations with Sephora. I do not, and will not, understand why they treat their sales like some kind of Illuminati secret circle meeting that NOBODY CAN KNOW ABOUT UNTIL THE DAY BEFORE! Every other company bombards you with info on their sales (21 days of beauty at Ulta? I get daily emails, got an ad the week before, and it was on their website I think almost 2 weeks ago). It's frustrating because I like to plan. I am a planner. It is hard when they are all these seemingly true rumors of some kind of Rouge event going on in a little over a week...but nobody will confirm anything. What are they gaining by this? Especially when the dates of chic week are all over online?  I don't understand their strategy at ALL.

...and they always say that it's "for competitive reasons"..why would they set their promos at almost exactly the same dates every year then, like clockwork. don't the competitors know about their upcoming promos already then? am i missing something?

It's probably some "old business ideals" that their management still adheres to or something.
