This is only my opinion, but if your drive is 2-3 hours to take this class (is that one way??)

  • Yes, one way was 2 hours.  Straight freeway driving though, and I don't mind - but I was too tired and canceled on my class tonight.  Lazy me. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Hell, I wouldn't trust the employees at the store I go to most to touch me with a 10 foot pole for a makeover.  All the women, including the one who does the Rouge sessions like you had, look like prostitutes or clowns.

I just want to attack them with a makeup wipe!   ***ROF-LMAO!!!!
And the men aren't much better, especially the ones who wear makeup...most wear it thick like a clown and don't use the correct colors to save their life!  And I'm supposed to trust them to match me!?!  Lol.

  • No, I wouldn't trust a man to help me out with my particular issues in this area either!  Regardless of if he wore make up or not...I don't care how impeccable his 'vision' is!

I feel like employees have been better about offering samples. I wonder if its knowing that a lot of people are buying online for the perks instead of going to the stores. The main store I go to is in a mall at the very end of my city in the newly developed areas. Its out of the way for most people and the closest freeway is a toll road. If I ask if they have a 100 pt perk someone will check the back and make an effort and not just give me a snooty look and say if its not there were don't have it. They were not always so attentive.

I'm even considering writing the manufacturer's to bring up that those 2 retailers are not giving their samples out as intended.

I told them that they should do a store wide study into what's going on at their stores, because I think

that the reps , clerks and cashiers are hoarding the samples to keep for themselves & to give away to

their favorite customers, their own families and their own friends.

***I LOVE THIS IDEA!!  Smart thinking!!!  I only started shopping for makeup this year, and I.m sure the fact that I'm in NorCal has something to do with my experiences, but there are great service places like Nordstrom, Macy's etc and even brand direct that are way better, but when I only want one item from one brand and one from another etc...Sephora makes sense.  Plus the perks we are promised as Rouge and the samples to try new products etc are enticing...so to me...hitting up the brands that help Sephora is genius!  Thank you for sharing! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I'll share one part of my feedback on the survey I submitted to Sephora from the other night - and it is 100% true.  I stated that on Friday night I was at the mall and visited 5 stores:  Origins, bare minerals, L'Occitane, Sephora and Sephora inside JCPenney.  I left laughing and chatting with the sales reps at every place, except Sephora.  I know they probably don't really care about me specifically but I'm not alone and I am happy others are giving honest feedback - GOOD or BAD.  *I had already noted that the SiJCP at the mall is the ONLY place I ever get great service from Sephora but also noted that they are still only a SiJCP - not a full store with the full range of brands available.  But it is true, those ladies are fabulous!  Always smiling and laughing and working their butts off - because they are always busy with return/regular happy customers!

I think claiming that employees are withholding samples for their own personal gain is taking it a little too far. I had a former co-worker who also was a Sephora BA, and my cousin used to manage the entirety of an Ulta store, not just the department, and I can assure you that employees at both companies get more that enough gratis from brand reps. They have no need to withhold from their customers. That's basically accusing any associate who doesn't offer samples of stealing, which is a very serious accusation.

From working at a different cosmetics company, I promise you that most retailers have their employees subject to purse/bag/coat checks to make sure they aren't taking any product, samples or not. I know Sephora does (or at least, did at the time my friend worked there) and I can certainly confirm whether Ulta does or not. Gratis goods are marked as such, everything else is company property. I would personally be very hesitant to make these types of accusations to the retailers or the merchants who supply them. :flowers:

Oh, you know, I didn't think of it like that, I wouldn't think free samples, whoever takes them, would be stealing anyway you look at it but you make a great point.  Hmm.  Love the feedback from these forums - helps me keep things in perspective! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Sephora has a new 500 PT Perk, a YSL "Designer Essentials" bag. It has:

- Yves Saint Laurent ROUGE PUR COUTURE SPF15 - Pure Colour Satiny Radiance (3 ML)

- Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils Babydoll (0.06 oz)

- Yves Saint Laurent DESSIN DU REGARD WATERPROOF - Long-Lasting Waterproof Eye Pencil in Black Ink (0.028 oz)

- Plus get a sleek mirror with the iconic YSL logo.

I went ahead and picked this up because I have a very much love/hate relationship with YSL products, I LOVE the lip products, but have yet to find an eye product I like. Plus that glossy black compact mirror with the YSL logo on it? Had to have!

I can assure you that SAs withhold things for their "best" customers. At Nordstroms (different department) we have a little binder with names and phone numbers. Everyone was supposed to get exceptional customer service but those ones we called, yes called, with special deals, we were expected to go above and beyond. I can see the SAs having people they call who they are holding gifts with purchases for.

We got "samples" for ourselves but then we had those V.I.P. customers.

Ooh I'm actually really tempted on this one! The points hoarder in me is basically going "...but... 500 points :(" I have a hoarding problem lol

I don't see it either, but they usually put them on the website early in the day & then it disappears for a few days before it returns. Not sure why, but that's the pattern I've noticed.  So, keep checking in the next few days.

If I see it I'll post on here too.

I got my Tony Moly lip balm this morning.  I love it!  It is so stinkin' cute.  I got the honey version, and it really does smell like fresh natural honey-not the sickeningly sweet fake honey some brands have.  Very moisturizing and cushy.  The balm is peach in the pot, but goes on 99.9% clear, leaves a nice glossy sheen with just a teeny tiny whisper of peach color.  I put it next to my ipod shuffle to show size scale.

Also, somebody was asking about the new YSL foundation (sorry I'm too lazy to go look it up).  I put some on this morning for these pictures from my last sample card.  These are just the foundation, no concealer, primer, powder, blush, etc etc.  My face is pretty broken out right now, but I feel it covers well enough, and it doesn't get cakey or nasty over blemish spots.

I also have the lip balm over the Makeup Forever lip liner point perk in these photos and the bare minerals eye shadow point perk on (which is basically the same color as original primer potion from UD, that stays that color instead of blending in).  I like the formula, but I think I'd like another color more.  Maybe the green or pink.

Totally picking up the blueberry lip balm version.  I'm not a huge fan of blueberry, but the container is so cute, and purple!  The other reviews on Sephora were right, it will make a cute pill container once empty.

That lip balm is so adorable!! I'm not the biggest fan of honey, but I want the blueberry version! It would probably never leave my room though, which would be a waste of cuteness. I just can't bring myself to dip a finger in a tin unless I've just washed my hands thoroughly, and even then it seems more unsanitary than a tube would be.

Thank you for the photos of the foundation that was me! I ended up placing a $5 order to get the sample of it to try it out and check the color. Excited to try it!

Setting gifts aside for VIP customers is different that employees stealing samples for themselves, or to give to friends and family, which is not allowed in any workplace situation.

Company samples designed to give away to customers are not the same things as company gratis designed to help the employees understand the product so that they can pass that information on to the customer, even if it may look the same.

Back to the VIP thing - lots of places do that, both big retailers and small. We would call a book full of VIP customers to let them know in advance of sales, deals, promos, the like. We'd pull and set aside any specific pieces that they wanted. We'd give them any extra discounts that we knew about as well as any samples - this is how Rouge members, and also to an extent VIB members at Sephora should be treated. But not giving samples is not the same thing as stealing and it really, really makes uncomfortable to read some posts that push that boundary. In the end, accusations like that could cost people their jobs, whether or not they deserve it, and that can have ramifications down that line that we can't even guess at. I worked in retail for nearly 20 years and I have seen that happen. Anyways, I can't talk about this any more because it makes me too heated and that's not cool. ha ha, a pun. :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

As for the YSL perk, I don't see it anymore either! Aww... hope it comes back, it was the first perk I actually wanted in a long time!

I understand what you're saying, but I have to disagree. I saw maybe one person say that they wondered if SAs were keeping it to give to their friends, and maybe one person wondering if that could be why, because they didn't understand why it seems like so many SAs have such a problem handing them out and didn't know what else it could be. These two posts were in extremely generic terms, and I don't see how people wondering and ranting on a post could get any specific person fired. I think we all need some perspective right now. No one is stealing, no one is accusing anyone of stealing, here. Just some women wondering why SAs are so stingy sometimes- and I think the answer is simple laziness.  :unsure2:

Okay- this is getting creepy! We always buy the same things!! I'm waiting for my honey lip balm and YSL foundation right now. That MUFE lip liner color looked horrible on me, though (way too brown) but it looks gorgeous on you- jealous!

Haha, great minds think alike!   :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

The lip liner looks terrible by itself, it IS very brown.  But I like it as a base to this lip balm, as long as the pencil isn't on too thick.  It makes a nice base under brighter pink gloss though, tones it down a smidge.  Earlier I had on Dior's fluid stick in Tiny Pink, and put a layer of the lip pencil over it for ***** and giggles, and it looked pretty good, kind of a unique peachy type shade--without being peach or pink specifically.

I hope OnTrac delivers all my orders early this week!  My husband does not need to see the Sephora box carnage!  I can't wait until tomorrow when my new Nars lipsticks get delivered :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

My Smashbox gloss in that set is COMPLETELY white, not beige. I bought two at two different times, so it's not like I got a bad set. Weird?

Mine is very white also. Not a fan.

I've never had a BAD experience in store (then again I'm borderline deaf so maybe they talk about my ass all the time and I'm just oblivious) but the only time I've had a GOOD experience was during a rouge event. One of the girls was so sweet and nice and sample happy.

However, that is the only time I have ever received a sample. I don't ask.

My best was also at a rouge event. That said the service at the last rouge event did leave a little to be desired...

Just putting it out there, the best makeover I ever had at Sephora was done by a man.
