Yes!  This!  That gloss is a horrid color!  lol  Mine had hardly any pink tint to it and looked more white than anything.  I wish they'd throw a plum colored Buxom in one instead of Dolly and White Russian all the time.  Same for Nars.
Yeah, I feel like these smaller sets always feature the same colour of the same product of the same few brands. I'm personally not a big fan of glosses, but I'd be way more inclined to at least buy the set and try them if they weren't always the same colour. (Although I tried one Buxom gloss and it burned the crap out of my lips so I've been hesitant to try any other Buxom products ever since - I don't have sensitive skin/lips at all and I don't really feel much pain so it was shocking to me how it burned so badly that I had to go wash it off within 20 seconds of applying it)

Girl I am on the same page as you!!!! I bought the big holiday Lipset last year and sold/gave away anything that wasn't a berry!
Same! I kept the reds (even though I have 9283473 reds) and berries and gave all the other stuff away to family/friends. At least with that one I still felt I got my money's worth afterward, $25 for 2, maybe 3 deluxe sized items I might like isn't worth it at all.

I would like it if they released a lip set that sort of encompassed not just color, but lip care in general.  Something with a scrub or two, a balm (stick or in a pan or BOTH), both a liquid and bullet lipstick, and a gloss.  Not 5 glosses and a lipstick or two.  Oh, and maybe one of those overnight lip masks that I keep seeing.  I want one of those.

I am a terrible internet surfer and you tube searcher.  I can spend hours searching for something and not finding what I am looking for.  Is there particular how-to 'channels' that I can look for? Like how to make your foundation not age you 10 years by settling into wrinkles??
I would try looking up Wayne Goss' channel on YouTube. He is a very talented makeup artist, he explains everything in detail, and he is absolutely adorable.

Just got an email for a new(?) lip set with:

0.03 oz Urban Decay Mini Naked Revolution Lipstick

0.12 oz Nars Deluxe Orgasm Lip Gloss

0.07 oz Buxom Mini Full On Lip Cream in White Russian

0.02 oz Marc Jacobs Mini Lust for Lacquer in Kissability

0.05 oz Deluxe Bite High Pigment Lip Pencil in Meritage

0.20 oz Full-size Smashbox Be Legendary Gloss in Pout

http://www.sephora.com/give-me-some-lip-P388033?skuId=1634898

I really wish Sephora would do sets with more vampy colours, I'm so tired of all the pale pinks/nudes with an occasional red. And that Smashbox gloss in Pout needs to go away - I swear I've had 2 or 3 of them already from sets (that I ended up giving to paler friends with less pigmented lips).
It's so weird you got an email for this today, like it's new. It was released at the end of July. SMH Sephora, stop getting my hopes up for new sets!

Like others said, that Smashbox gloss is AWFUL. I try to use it as a highlighter in the middle of my lips, but it still just looks like frosting. I wish it was at least clear instead. Of course it's the one that's full-sized- I can't help but think Smashbox agreed to be part of the set because it helped them unload a bunch of product no one liked. The Marc Jacobs gloss is so pretty but was half empty (this wasn't Sephora's fault, you get this same sample in that current MJ Beauty promo with the three free deluxe samples w/ any purchase thing.. great deal btw, but it wasn't full either).

@ It's really easy! Just go to YouTube and search using the main keywords of your query. For example, you asked about applying foundation without it settling into wrinkles... I typed into YouTube "applying foundation wrinkles" so I would get videos that had those words in it, and look at all the video tutorials for this very subject! https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=applying+foundation+wrinkles

I typed "full face makeup Tarte" and look at all the tutorials on how to do a full-face using only Tarte cosmetics :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=full+face+makeup+tarte+

I also searched just "using Tarte makeup" https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=using+tarte+makeup

Sooo many videos for everything you asked for! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I also still think hiring an independent makeup artist to consult you and help you one-on-one could help if you really need it, and it's worth splurging on if you have so many beautiful cosmetics but need help applying them. That being said, I really think you could learn everything you need via the copious amount of help vids alone. I've learned so much myself just by watching someone else do it and then practicing over and over... that's a big part. I'm not naturally gifted like so many ladies, but I have learned by experimenting a lot. Good luck! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Ha! I think I'm the only one who sort of likes that smashbox gloss. I'm pale with borderline corpse lips and I like it on me! :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
Don't worry I like it, too. On it's own, it isn't pigmented enough so it just shows up as a nice shine and I can also use it on top of other colors to tone them down. But I'm also super pale, so it's like... impossible for anything to wash me out. it doesn't get lighter!

You ladies have all been so great - I feel terrible but in the end, I repurchased half of my in-store purchase at 11:59pm (seriously, I need to get a life!) and decided I'll split it with her.   And, I do want to say she was fabulous in her instructions, and even at 3am when I was taking off my make up for bed - my face was fairly flawless.

I get taken advantage of (a lot) mostly because I just take everything at face value - and believe exactly what I think is happening, IS happening.  That isn't her fault.  Sometimes it is hard to be me because I get kind of stuck in a cycle...anyway WAY more info than anyone ever wants to know LOL!

I overslept and missed her class this morning that I was thinking of attending - but didn't confirm.  I have one scheduled for tonight at 7pm in San Francisco - just not sure I'm up for the drive.  But if I go I'll leave my credit card at home!!

And now that I am more aware of the role of a BA, I'll know better next time.  I was thinking too - she had no idea that inside my brain I was having this whacked out conversation, so I am in the process of emailing her to tell her about the 1/2 return - I'd hate for one of her colleagues to tell her I'm saying bad things when none of this is towards her...I need to own my ignorance.

Plus, I was thinking of all my issues with Sephora since I started shopping there in May this year.  It really does boggle the mind how they can consistently do negative things (talking about other rants now - like with sample giving, calling me a liar, etc.) and so after my order last night I took the offered survey.  And I didn't say anything negative about my BA appt (by then I pulled my head out of my @$$), but I was very specific with people who have been rude, what locations and dates and times, and names if I had them.

I told them I know they don't need me as a customer, but I love the store so much why can't they work on their customer service?  I asked them if their employees are not willing to give out the samples that they get to give, where do they go?  I'm just curious because I have learned they get several 'testers' of items too, in addition to samples, and I'm starting to think that on these boards when we comment 'it's not like we are taking the samples from them...' that actually, yeah we are!  I mean how else can that behavior be explained?  AND I found out that employees also get bags of free stuff from brands all the time - to test out at home!  OMG do I want to work there!!  LOL!! But anyway, people are funny, and people have quirks, but they don't have to be so damn rude!

Again - thank you all for your support, everyone is always so nice and I appreciate all comments, after all, I can't think of everything!!  Can you imagine how long that would take to process!!!  AGH!!!

Now...on to more fun things...has anyone taken a beauty class at Sephora?  They are held off hours (before or after store is open) and cover specific topics.  Today's is Flawless Foundation, and I really want to go just kind of dreading the drive to the Bay Area (2-3 hour drive, depending on traffic).  Just wondered if it is worth it.  My BA yesterday said they are constantly training and taking classes to be able to do what they do, and you saw her makeup...certainly flawless!
I've been to a class.  The perks of attending classes differ depending on the store location.  Other people who attended the same class I did in another location got free goody bags and full size at that.  Meanwhile, at the location I had my class you only got a goody bag if you spent 50$!

This is only my opinion, but if your drive is 2-3 hours to take this class (is that one way??)  you aren't going to learn anything you cannot learn online for free sitting in your pajamas!  There are TONS of free videos on YouTube that can teach you foundation application, lots and lots of ladies on there that know their stuff!  There are even professional makeup people on YouTube with free tutorial videos!  Just search different terms you're interested in.  Hell, I wouldn't trust the employees at the store I go to most to touch me with a 10 foot pole for a makeover.  All the women, including the one who does the Rouge sessions like you had, look like prostitutes or clowns.  I just want to attack them with a makeup wipe!  And the men aren't much better, especially the ones who wear makeup...most wear it thick like a clown and don't use the correct colors to save their life!  And I'm supposed to trust them to match me!?!  Lol.

Also, you don't owe the girl who did you makeover session anything.  I've never worked at Sephora, but I have worked retail.  Most companies don't have detailed records of sales and returns for employees.  Each employee has a "goal" to hit in a certain time frame, and they can usually see their total sales and total returns... but they cannot see who bought or returned what.  She isn't going to see that you specifically returned half the products.  Does that make sense?  In fact, I'm willing to bet if you emailed her an explanation etc you'll be talk of fodder at work with her and her "buddies" she works with.  It happens everywhere all the time.  Anybody weird, interesting, pretty, stupid, "anything else you can put here" get talked about, made fun of, etc etc.  It is just the nature of retail.  ****, last time I was in store, the girl getting my sample in skin care was making fun of another customer on her headset with another employee!  Just acting like I wasn't there or didn't understand what she was talking about.

You can't blame your own issues on other people, like you've already said... but given that, she still played you!  She didn't follow through with what she said you guys would do together (Tarte), and she used your own weaknesses and issues and excitement to play you like a fool, and she got 150$ sale out of you!  That is unprofessional of her.  She isn't free of blame.

You JUST got an email about this set?  Hasn't this set been around for a while now, and the same set with the defective "pout" color (beige in tube instead of pink)?  That's pretty lame Sephora is sending new emails out about this old set, lol.  Sigh...Sephora is on crack lately I think.  I keep getting sale emails last week, exclusivity for sale items that have been there for 6-8 months already.

I agree though, I want some sets with different color family!  What about purple/plums?  Something for fall!

^i got the same email today (it's subject line is about Josie maran samples) and it says "new, exclusive, and limited edition" next to the lip set. I agree I've seen it before though. Maybe it's exactly the same as last year?

Edit: looking at the reviews it looks like it was out in July. I guess sephora has different ideas about what qualifies as "new".

Right? I would be ALL OVER a plum/purple set!!

The subject line for my email was "It's true: the new Naked palette is here." in regards to Naked Basics 2, which, y'know, has been out for a few weeks now. Sephora seems to be fashionably (and excessively) late with emails lol.

Huh. I never even knew sephora emails are different! Mine mentioned naked basics 2 but the samples was the main thing. Interesting!

Side note: 15 Josie maran packets (5 each of the cleansing oil, Argan oil, and moisturizer with code tryjosie)

Okay, I didn't get an e-mail at all, so clearly Sephora didn't see fit to inform me of weeks-old products I already own. :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> In other (unrelated) news, if you are ever shopping in a store and overhear associates complaining about or mocking other customers on the sales floor you need to either 1. make a complaint to the manager then and there 2. high tail it out of there and never return or preferably 3. do both. I think everyone knows that people talk, it's just the nature of being social, but if they are so unprofessional that they are discussing other customers personal details, or portraying them in a negative light, right in front of you I can guarantee that they are unprofessional in every other aspect of running the store.

Ugh, just thinking about it makes me want to fire people... ha ha, kidding, but not really. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

If I didn't shop where employees did this, I'd have no where to shop!  I hear it everywhere.  But I'm also nosey, have above average hearing, and regularly hold several conversations/ease drop like my life depends on it, lol.  I'm horrible.  I comment about stuff I hear in stores and in public all the time, and he's all "what are you even talking about?"...  He's (my husband) excellent at tuning everything out, an ability I do not have one tiny bit.

As for my Sephora experience mentioned, she asked if I needed anything else, kind of rudely.  I told her no, I don't want her gossip and rudeness tainting my samples, I might turn into a person like her.  She got all offended and huffy at me, and I told her I'm not deaf or stupid, I'd fire you on the spot publicly if I were her manager.  Then at the checkout I told the dude ringing me up, who was super sweet, that the skin care department needs their mouth washed out with soap asap.  He asked what I meant, and I told him cast members were making fun of guests on the headsets.. I don't know what happened after that, i was already out and in line for an almond pretzel and watermelon freeze drink.

I realize people need jobs and nobody is perfect, but I cannot believe the amount of ****** people working with the public that have no business outside of the stock rooms.  But I have a lower than average bull-**** meter threshold.  My husband says I just hate people...I like people, I just hate stupid idiots with no respect, manners, morals.  It isn't my fault there are less and less upstanding people, lol.  And that's why online shopping is awesome! :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

My Smashbox gloss in that set is COMPLETELY white, not beige. I bought two at two different times, so it's not like I got a bad set. Weird?

My Sephora I generally pretty good but I don't get the whole withholding samples thing. I was just there to pick up a few things for my daughter and asked about the sample bags for VIBR. She was super nice once I asked but wasn't going to offer. I mean, it's not like they own them. I think Sephora corporate should have some company wide training so everyone gets the same service across stores. And yeah, fire the ******** that work there! ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

" I don't get the whole withholding samples thing. . I think Sephora corporate should have some company wide training so everyone gets the same service across stores "

I agree. I got one of those survey thingies at Sephora last week and never take time to do them,

but I decided last nite I was going to start taking the surveys just so I can complain about having to beg for samples.

It's just not good customer service & does not promote good will for Sephora or the manufacturer's who provide the samples to Sephora and ULTA too.

That is what the samples are partly for, along with creating a desire in customers to buy more stuff.

I had a survey from ULTA yesterday also, so I sat here and answered both surveys, being VERY

direct about what a horrid job they are doing on giving out samples.

I'm even considering writing the manufacturer's to bring up that those 2 retailers are not giving their samples out as intended.

I told them that they should do a store wide study into what's going on at their stores, because I think

that the reps , clerks and cashiers are hoarding the samples to keep for themselves & to give away to

their favorite customers, their own families and their own friends.

Since I always get samples when making an online purchase, I should NEVER walk out of those stores without at LEAST one sample in my bag. No customer should ever leave without a sample or 2 or 3, even.

And I should not have to ask for them. It's degrading to have to beg for a stinking 25cent sample and makes me feel devalued as a customer.

So girls, start taking those surveys and writing Sephora and ULTA to make this case with them,

if you agree.

Maybe corporate will do some research into what's happening to all those samples they are supposed

to be giving away, but don't.

I'm not going to lie, I have never gone into a Sephora main store and had an experience I would label good: Even when I personally have a decent experience, I'll also hear headset gossip (this is REALLY common it seems?), have that one strange SA that doesn't want to give a sample or says weird things to me or generally bizarre behavior. The SiJCP is pretty good, and Ulta is always good, which it seems like a lot of people have the reverse experience- hate Ulta love Sephora in-store. I don't really care- I only go in when I have to make a return that can't wait or if there's a product that's store only, which comes out to maybe three times a year, but I always wonder what the heck is going on with that place, lol. That being said, there is always also one really awesome SA, sweet and helpful.

I'm just going to put out there that I have never had a bad experience in-store at Sephora, so I honestly don't have any personal experience to add. I shopped at stores in Idaho, Nevada, California, Utah, Oregon and Washington. Both standalone stores and SiJCP have always been perfectly fine.

I mean, I didn't always get samples, but when I shopped in-store a lot, I didn't know about all the extras you got online. Now that I shop online more, I've also noticed I get samples in-store more.

I mean, it really makes me wonder how SO MANY stores can be so bad?

I've never had a BAD experience in store (then again I'm borderline deaf so maybe they talk about my ass all the time and I'm just oblivious) but the only time I've had a GOOD experience was during a rouge event. One of the girls was so sweet and nice and sample happy.

However, that is the only time I have ever received a sample. I don't ask.
