The lipstick was just the wrong color for me.  Too muddy mauve color, made me look old and sick.  I like the concept of it, but I think Fresh balms are better, and have more color options that'd give the same effect the no lipstick-lipstick in theory.
Yeah I love fresh balms!

Has anybody been to a class at the beauty studio at sephora before?  How was it?  Did they pressure you to buy stuff?

I just signed up to attend the perfect lips/cheeks class for next Sunday morning.  Hopefully it'll be fun.  I've never been to a class before and don't really know what to expect.  I do know I'm still on a hunt for the perfect everyday lip color...something that brightens up my face and always looks good.  I'm hoping they'll help that quest some, lol.
I've been to a few classes at my local sephora, and there's no pressure to buy. I've had really good experiences with the classes I've been to, but I can see how it can really depend on who the instructors are there. The ones that I've been to were all full, and they had one main instructor, a 'model,' and 3-4 other SAs that went around helping on an individual basis as the instructor was going over things. For some of the classes they gave out goody-bags of samples, but that hasn't been consistent.

They've pretty much been basic demos (you can also ask questions, and my store encouraged it), and you get to play in-depth with a lot of the products - more so than if you were just browsing the store. The classes I went to were all at 9am, and the store opened at 11am, so the time between when the class ended and when the store opened was kinda like private, quite shopping time too. PS - we had free SBUX coffee too :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />   There was never a downside to attending on my end!

I went to a nail design class several years ago. It was sponsored by Nails. Inc and we got a ton of free product. There was no pressure at that class but I felt like I should buy at least one of their polishes as a thank you since they gave me so much free stuff lol. It was an excellent class and I had tons of fun.

Don't think the new classes are the same way since they aren't brand sponsored. I think you learn on the store testers rather than free product. I have heard some complaints of that on BT. Hopefully they are listening to the complaints and improving though. I would love to hear about your experience because I have been wanting to try the smokey eye class and the contouring class.

Question- when you buy something in-store with refund cards (the cards you get when you take an item back without receipt), do you get points for the items you buy? I would usually assume so since I figure they take the points off when you take the items back, or am I wrong?

I ask because I'm returning two things tomorrow: One $60 item I have my receipt for, and one $40 item that I don't have a receipt for. I am going to be upset if they take away points off my acct for the $40 item because it was a gift not purchased on my account (will they do this?) but then not give me points back when I purchase the Mia in-store. Thoughts?
When I've returned things, I've had the points taken away from my acct. But when you purchase, even if it's with store credit, you get those points back then. Without the receipt, I don't think they'll have your BI number, so they wouldn't know who to deduct the points from....so maybe return the sans-receipt one first, then the one with the receipt?

Has anyone trie the new Sephora sheet masks? I used the pearl mask tonight and then went to pick up my husband from work. As soon as he got in the car he said my skin looked great. I used a Karuna mask last week and he didn't say anything. I also didn't really notice any difference from the Karuna other than my skin just 'feeling' good. This one really seemed to brighten!

Great to hear about a good experience!! Which classes have you taken? Which have you liked the most?

LOL, I've taken full liberty of the classes:

-contouring

-radiant orchid

-skincare

-Colorful eyeliner

And I'm signed up for the lip/cheek one in a couple of weeks.....

edit - oops, I realized I never wrote which was my favorite. Probably the colorful eyeliner - they went through eyeshadow technique too, which I really needed!

I haven't, but now I want to!  I used to use the Karuna masks all the time, but there weren't much noticeable differences, just felt better/more hydrated.  Isn't it great when husbands/boyfriends notice stuff like that, without prompting to look for a difference, lol.

Yes it is! I almost thought he was joking, but I asked later to see and he said there was a noticeable difference.
ETA: I did specially try the pearl mask. That one has the best reviews on their website. Some of the others have some negative reviews. So, I'd recommend the pearl if you're going to try one.

This is good to know!  I'm not too excited about the 9am class time on a Sunday, lol, but I am excited about the class.  I love lip color and blush, and feel like I'm in a small rut and would like some fresh insight etc.

I'm up for buying whatever looks and feels good, I just don't like to be pressured.

I would love to take the contouring class and the day/night smokey eye class.  The Sephoras by me are full for those right now though.  I'm debating if I want to sign up for notice if space comes available...but I don't know if weekday nights are good for me really.  I guess I could always look up videos on youtube in the meantime.

I'm def. adding this to my buy list for this weekend.  Thanks for the heads up on the reviews.

how was contouring?? my store doesn't offering it but i was thinking of using my VIB make over card to ask for some contouring 411.

also -- are you the MUTer who buys store credit cards off of giftcard granny or is that someone else?

Gift cards - that's me! Almost every sephora purchase I make is with a gift card or store credit that I bought off of one of those places. Giftcard granny is a good place to see what 'rates' are available.

The contouring class was decent - one of the SAs was going around helping you find your cheekbones, and actually points out from about where to where the contour lines could go. I have a wide bridge to my nose, so they also showed me how to contour that down (I'm still not too good at it). There was also highlighting and blush placement. The instructor would keep on demoing different types of blush/bronzers (cream, powder gel, stick...) that SA model ended up with so much blush and bronzer on that she looked like a Neapolitan icecream bar. It was helpful. I'm not sure how (dis)similar the group class would be to a VIB consultation...

I'm still working on that Meteorites sample from a while back, and I initially found that the finish was just a hair too sparkly for me. I don't know if it was the reformulation or what, but every now and then I would apply in indoor light and then see my reflection in my car mirror or in daylight and see a sparkle or two. I poured out the balls, wiped out the container, and replaced them all except the bright white one, and now I love them! No more twinkle, and it still seems to match (and brighten) my skin tone. If you guys found the Meteorites too sparkly, try removing the "disco ball."  :wizard:

I have been wanting to buy the full sizes Meteorites for months and then I found out that there's a Guerlain store at Epcot and I will be buying them there as my Disney World souvenir! I can't think of tow things i love more, makeup and Disney. HAHAHA

Anyway, wasn't that sample the greatest? I had just recently bought one of the macaron trinket boxes that Birchbox sells and they fit perfectly inside! So they sit on my vanity in their macaron next to my makeup brushes which just so happen to be nestled inside of a Laduree Rose Petal Jam box that I turned into a brush holder.

You guys, I have a serious question with a big problem and I need your help. Any time I've ever taken anything back to Sephora, if I have the packing slip, I get the purchase put back on my debit card. If I don't, I get store credit that can only be used in-store. I remember about a year and a half ago, right before I started taking stuff back in-store vs in mail, I asked and asked different forums and everyone said the same: That in the stores, you're golden with packing slips, and even if you don't, as long as you don't abuse the policy.

Anyway, here'es what happened: Last night since I knew I was going into Sephora today, I grabbed a few products that I had purchased that I hadn't touched. All of these products were in-box and with packing slip (I keep all of them, sometimes it's just a matter of finding them). The total for these items came to about $240. It has been at least seven months since I last did any returns, btw.

Today at the store, the woman who was handling the returns told me that only about $52 of the items could be put on the card, with the rest having to be put on cards that I could use ONLINE OR IN-STORE. BTW, these products were mostly purchased in April, some in February, and two in December. none of them older than that.

Do you know what went wrong here? I have the receipts and original packing slips she gave back to me. She didn't even give me a reason why, and she didn't seem to know what she was doing.

The back of my packing slip says <60 days, and it's refunded back to your card (if that's the way you paid), 61-90 days from purchase, or purchased with a gift card or store credit, you get store credit. And it's vague as to the policy beyond 90 days.

Thee 90-day mark would have been purchases made in mid-April...

They are supposed to give you back your money on returns if you have the original receipt and packing slip, although Sephora says on their Facebook that you should call the store to be sure... so to my understanding, some stores might be a little stricter or different on details of the policy.

If I were to take a guess, it is probably because you have some older purchases you were returning, even though they were new/unused, they were older online purchases... so they gave you gift cards instead of all money back to your original payment method.

Either that or the person could have been wrong...it seems kind of hit or miss that all employees know all the rules on a daily basis (judging by the complaints I read online).

I know at the store by me they never give anybody hassles for returns, no matter how old, as far as I've overheard/seen while shopping, and experienced myself.  Especially if you had the receipt/packing slips.

Did you make sure you can use the cards she gave you online?  It would really suck if it were store credit and they lied to you.

If it were me, I'd have complained at the time to get my payment back on my card, since they were unused/had the receipts... Or at least all the money they "had to put on cards" was on 1 card so I could use it online at once etc.

You could try calling or stopping by to talk to a manager, or ask on their Facebook, for clarification as to why they did that...

I've been told by Sephora customer service several times, that those time frames are if you return your product(s) via mail.. and that in store returns don't apply to that timeframe.  ((whether they were telling the truth, I don't know.))

in the back of a store receipt, it says:

"sephora stores will accept returns of sephora.com and sephora catalog purchases within 60 days of purchase date. the original packing slip and return form (receipt) must be presented at the time of return."

it doesn't say anything about beyond 60 days, so i'm assuming that's when the store credit is applicable.
