I must be the only non-germaphobic makeup user. I don't really care who has touched it, if i'm not ingesting it, then whatever, I'll swatch it on my face. I never test mascara because I have yet to encounter a testable mascara, they are almost always dried out.

When you work at a store that has "testers" you'd be more grossed out, knowing the sheer number of gross people/kids that "touch" a tester, not to mention all the times they're dropped on the floor.  I can't even believe people who want to "buy" testers when it's the only item left.

....lots of diseases/infections that can be transferred just by contact....etc.. viruses can survive for days (some for hours) outside of its human host. herpes virus (cold sores) survive for hours..

in other news, the $2 cotton rounds are on sale for $1. i really want to stock up!!

When does chic week open for non-rouges? I got paid today and want to get the OCC primary set, but if chic week starts in a couple days I'll just wait.

GUYS GUYS. IM IN SIJCP RIGHT NOW SWATCHING AWAY AND THE SALES ASSOCIATES ARE APPLYING MAKE UP ON THEMSELVES STRAIGHT FROM THE TUBE. I'm talking lippies mascara eyeliner... I swear a staff member just did her whole face. OMG I'm dying
When I first worked at SiJCP for the holiday, there was one girl that would do that if we were ever slow. HORRIFYING. she'd even grab the display blush brush (hellooooo, how many hands touch it) and then use the blush without wiping off a layer.. She'd use gloss and mascaras with a wand.. I would die inside. DIE! I always wiped and sanitized lipsticks before using or wipe off powders.. Liners you can wipe plus sharpen but I would never use a felt/brush tip liner... Gah! I kept my own lipgloss in my pocket. No wand sharing here, one employee told me she got a cold sore from using a gloss. Yuck.

I would not try most things at the SIJCP, it's in Nasty City(national city) and things look very handled but the otay ranch mall they are more evenly used and I see how they clean them for customers and snap off all the applicators. I would never try a gloss if it has the applicator or anything felt tipped except for on my hand to swatch.

I'm totally paranoid about that as well. That's why I end up buying products sometimes just based on reviews. I'm always super skeptical (oh no, this is a Sephora thread so I might get in trouble) about the cleanliness of the makeup. Even at Sephora if I were to take the proper precautions if someone else contaminated a tester then I'm taking a risk.

I don't work at a Sephora but a Bath and Body Works, which has testers for most items. Testers are important try = buy but they can get "yucky" fast, especially lip glosses. ugh sticky central.

Also having a sink in the store, let's just say I've seen everything, like the homeless bathing, yep...bathing at our sink.

I've always wondered if people bathed at the sink!! I took my dad in there once and he was like "why would I buy if I can just wash my face and hair right here?" Oh dad...

I've seen people wash stains out of their clothing, and the kids...oh the kids.  Yes washing your hands is important lesson but parents are like "sink = babysitter"

When the parents come back to "pick up" their children from the water babysitter they get all pissed when we don't have paper towels ready for their children to dry their hands. "You're OUT of paper towelllllllsssssss!!!!????!!!!!"

I'm like uh yeah the roll they just went through... is all over the floor next to the trash can.

Let me go hide, I mean, "look" in the back for more for your precious darlings.

I had to work this morning so I decided to go by my local SiJCP. I never go there because they never have anything. But I wanted to swatch out a couple of lipsticks. I should have just resisted. All of the testers looked dirty. And of course the one thing I wanted to try. They were out. I'm never going to get this JCP gift card spent.

My boyfriend always jokes that the testers in Sephora "look like someone got hungry and ate some" of the lipsticks and other products. If he says that I usually stay away from those testers!!! I always do a super thorough sanitizing procedure before putting anything near my face. I self-tan so normally I'm matching foundations to my neck which I don't worry about breaking out so I can just do a swipe, but other than that the only thing I'll actually put on my face is something I can thoroughly sanitize. My mom got a bump once from a lipstick tester and I almost threw up when she told me that.

The number of gross people and kids touching those teasers is much smaller than the number of people touching the door knobs you use going in and out of buildings, hand rails on the escalators, evaluator buttons at work, carts at the grocery store, pumps at the gas station, money you spend etc.  and we all touch our own faces and bodies after doing those things.  Those same diseases/infections that can last on make-up for hours can last in those other places as well.  And let's not even broach the subject of food prep at a restaurant.  Even if employees are wearing gloves, they touched the gloves with their hands to put them on.  And they touched multiple things while wearing the gloves.

I had a child that for medical reasons had absolutely no immune system.  Germs of any form were incredibly dangerous for her.  There was a point in time that they were so dangerous she could not leave her own room without wearing a mask.  The only way you can truly keep yourself free of other peoples germs is to live in a bubble and not expose yourself in any way.  But then you aren't really living life.

^Fair point made, BUT...I'm personally not going to intentionally pick up something that 15 other people have put on their mouth, and put it on my mouth on purpose. If I get something on me from doorknobs or other things I cant really help touching, at least I can wash my hands before putting them in my mouth or eye or whatever lol.

Does anyone remember what the Algenist moisturizer code currently available is? I tried it yesterday but I had to start my cart over, so I lost it now.

Just my 1 penny, 90% of make-up medium is usually moist or semi-moist (like sink tops, towels, toothbrush etc...), which is a more nurturing environment for foregin micro-organisms.

Plus when one is testing make-up it's in close proximity to ones mouth, nose, eyes and ears - easy entrance into our system.  When I'm on on the subways and about handling public structures, I'm concious in not rubbing my eyes and shape my other habits to minimize i.e. I always use tubed lip care rather then a tin.

I was brought up a little old school that a little 'germs' is good that it'll build immunity and keep you stronger.  I've been lucky, my glands might be tender a couple of times each month then I've got another anti-body swimming around in my blood.

I think what gives pause is that due to our transporation excellence, we are exposed to countless new starnds just being alive and our body's fighting it without stop, 24/7, taking down that funny DNA.  It's when one's stressed, worn down or tired that our body might not be so successful and we come down with a full-blown case.  I think being careful when one is able is just common sense.

Of course I've been know to use the back of a pen, just once (first wiped down with a tissue, but yea that's just a motion) to stir my coffee in a pinch.  Am sure no one here's been that 'creative' or 'careless'...

I hope you didn't mean GENIUS or FIRM, because both are showing up as out of inventory for me right now.

I think Im kind of in the middle with my germphobia. I won't put testers on my face at all, but I will swatch them on my hand. I then rub them off with alcohol. It's probably not that different, but in my head, eyes and mouth are like...openings (that sounds gross lol) where germs can get inside me more easily, whereas on my hand my skin is a barrier from the germs invading me, then I rub it off with alcohol. I think everyone just needs to do what they're comfortable with.
