Wow you got the Ole Henriksen peel sample? I received my samples from Ole yesterday and they were pretty generous but I didn't get the peel system. I've been thinking about the sample size treatments at Sephora to try it out.

I'm so excited about the Jane Iredale samples after seeing what they sent you! I had talked to them the other day and they're sending me a bunch of lip, eye, and foundation products.

Got this from marula,

Hi Alexandria -

You can visit the Birchbox website: http://www.birchbox.com and sign up for their sampling program. I have copied

Birchbox customer service and they can provide you with further assistance.

Best,

Anna

I dont really understand how this helps me, when I asked to try their product... if you are going to say no, at least make it clear. And I asked this in different words, I heard about your product through birchbox and was wondering if there is any way I could try some.

Yeah, Marula is pretty lame about it. Nothing has come of the whole copied-to-Birchbox thing on my end (it's been a month). At first, I didn't mention Birchbox in my email to them and they replied telling me that they would send samples but to let them know where I heard about their company. I then told them I heard about it from Birchbox subscribers, blogs, etc. Then they gave me the whole we don't want to deal with you but Birchbox will help you instead thing. I don't mind being told no and would have preferred it over their approach.

Agree. Im the kind of person that if i like the product, I will buy it, even if its ridiculously over priced. And if they dont want to send me a sample or at least decline nicely, you can kiss my business goodbye. Also, when I get these things, I tend to put pics on my blog and instagram, so that press for you right there.

No it wasn't them that made me pay per se, it was the P.O. as Caudalie put the wrong postage on the package. :: shrugs ::  Personally, I don't feel it's worth it to complain, though I do think they should know that someone along the line dropped the ball.... Just kind of something for anyone looking into them to look out for.

Someone else mentioned that those baggies actually hold quite a bit of product- I almost feel that if you've got the spare "craft jars" it might be. Otherwise not so much... I got one of their bronzers in a bb a few months back, and I just recently bought the $15 amazonian tarte set sephora was offering last week, so I'm set on bronzer for a very long time.
Gotcha. Not boo to Caudalie!

I got lip gloss samples in baggies. I think I'm going to toss them, its a smeary mess :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I emailed & said I've heard great things about their company & asked how I could get samples. I didn't ask for anything in particular, they were super nice :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Since their shipping prices are so low, I don't think they ship outside of Singapore. (Hence the "sg" in their url.)
I decided to take a chance and I ordered some BB creams. You can pay with paypal so I felt a little safer. They do ship to the us. The samples are travel sized from the things that I have read. I really want to try the BRTC BB creams. I have read a bunch of great reviews. Anyone try any of these from this line? There is another one that comes in a bright pink bottle (different company) that I want to try as well. Anyone have any comments about the Korean BB creams? Are they any different to the US brands? I am currently using the L'Oreal youth code one and I really like it. I read somewhere that the Youth Code product line in very similar to Lancome Genifique (?sp) since they are owned by same company it makes sense.

I've heard good stuff about youth code. I gave my sample to my mom, and she ended up buying some other products from their line and her skin looks GREAT.

Okay so this is back on Aug. 15th when I originally contacted them.

"Hi Jen -

We will be doing another sampling program in November with BIrchbox but I can send you a sample if you would kindly provide me
with your mailing address.

Thanks,
Anna"
I was like OOOOH AWESOME THEY'RE SENDING ME THINGS!!
icon_cheesygrin.gif

Then fast forward a couple weeks, I still haven't receive anything- so I email her.

"Hi Anna,
Just wondering when I should expect the samples to arrive? I've not yet received them so I'm hoping they didn't end up getting lost in the mail. Any info you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!~Jenifer"

And get this :

"Hi Jen -

Birchbox wants to take care of their subscribers request. I have copied them on this email and you can
follow up with them.

I am sorry for the inconvenience.

Best,
Anna"
Wait....      Wait...       Wut?
icon_eek.gif

Two weeks ago you'd said you'd be sending them out, and then you don't?!?

Not. Cool. At. All.

So I shot back an email -

"You're sorry for the inconvenience, and I'm sorry you lost the chance to earn my business."

Sure, it was kinda witchy, but seriously, she flat out lied.

Moral of the story - I really hope that come November, I don't have any Marula product in my Birchbox.

The Korean/Asian BB creams are extremely different from the US brands. Nearly all Asian BB creams contain ingredients that help "whiten" (lighten) your skintone, because in East Asia paleness is considered a sign of beauty and wealth (being tan means you're a farmer). Of course, this doesn't really fly in the US market where many people in fact think the opposite, so the US brands have changed the formula so it doesn't include the "whitening" property anymore. Most Asian BB creams only come in one shade, too, whereas in the US there's a much greater range of skintones, so again, the American brands modified the formula to produce 2-3 different skintone variations per product.

In my experience, this has made the non-Asian BB creams less effective -- I just don't get the great flawless coverage from them. The American BB creams are really just glorified tinted moisturizers. Since I'm part-Asian, I also value being pale, so for me the choice between Asian or American BB creams is a no-brainer. But if you're not pale and don't want to be paler, then the Asian ones may not work for you.

I believe the bright pink bottle one you're talking about is the Skin79 Pink Label. It's my favorite out of the ones I've tried. You can buy a full-size on Amazon for ~$13, so at that price you may not even want to pay shipping for samples, you might as well go for the whole thing. But there are a few ladies floating around in the trade section here who have samples, and I believe there's an Amazon seller who also does sample packs of all of Skin79's BB creams for a few $.

I tried to make a purchase and cancelled. They do ship to US but looked like the price was S25.00 when I tried to check out. I cancelled and it still took my points. I emailed them about the high shipping cost and about my points being taken. I'm just waiting for a reply now...

I totally agree with you. The American BB creams really don't comare to Asian BB creams. The coverage in Asian BB creams is better than most foundations. It just smooths the skin out so nicely. The whitening properties also help fade acne scars and it has helped me, I hope people don't run away from it. It brightens your skin tone too. The USA BB creams are usually more watery, have less coverage, and are just like tinted moisturizers. I mean if your going to call something BB cream, it's got to compare. A lot of the Asian BB creams do tend to blend into your skin tone within 10 minutes, but if you are darker than medium it may not work for you. Some brands even offer a few shades to choose from. Now that I use BB creams, mainly from Korea, I have a box of foundations that are wasting away. I need to get rid of them cause I just have no use for them anymore.

Update: Also, I have a Skinfood BB cream up for trade & a couple packets of another brand

I went to leapingbunny.org and requested their printed shopping guide last week. I am waiting for it to arrive before I ask for more samples. The transition to cruelty-free products does not seem to be a speedy one for me, but I'm hoping that by not getting new products, including samples, unless they are cruelty-free will help me make the change faster.

If you are a bit darker, Missha (one Korean BB I have) does have different shades. Actually that goes for if you are lighter too, as their lightest shade is paler than pale!
