You can read reviews of both here: http://www.nstperfume.com/2013/07/18/carven-le-parfum-fragrance-review/ and here: http://www.nstperfume.com/2013/12/17/elizabeth-and-james-nirvana-black-nirvana-white-fragrance-reviews-quick-poll/

Excerpts:

(Carven is) mostly clean, even a bit soapy, but it's not quite laundry detergent clean, and it's wrapped in a veil of sheer powder. It smells young and fresh and modern and charming, but sophisticated enough to suit the brand, and there is a nice suede-ish warmth, with the usual scrubbed-clean patchouli adding some depth and earthiness, to the dry down.

(Nirvana White is) a heavy woody musk, not as dark as Nirvana Black, with some fresh but loud florals + citrus on top, and I found the opening both screechy and dryer-sheet-ish. The dry down is softer, but it's still not what I'd call a light fragrance.

So basically, the reviewer doesn't like Nirvana White, but does like the Carven. I know this doesn't answer your question, since you like Nirvana (I'm guessing White, because it's the lighter one), but hopefully it'll help a little in your decision making.

I'd say if you like Nirvana White, you will probably like Carven.  Carven is more complex and sophisticated a scent compared to Nirvana though, and it is not as strong-in your face.

Carven IS lighter and sweeter than the Nirvanas, without vanilla, and not nearly as strong smelling.  But it has some sweeter musk scent lingering after the top notes fade away.

I hope that helps some.
thanks for the help!  i'm a perfume newbie so i'm usually intimidated by reviews that are very detailed and complex (most of it means nothing to me...i don't even know what top notes etc. are) so your help is much appreciated :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I would not go by that person's review, on the Carven or the Nirvana White.  ((sorry if that review happens to be somebody that posts here by chance))

The only way Carven would remind somebody of laundry detergent or soap-is if they happen to use VERY flowery strong laundry products, lol.  It doesn't smell like soap, nor does it smell like powder.  Personally, I'd consider "clean" fragrances to be more in line with the "clean" brand of fragrance products -rain, skin, warm cotton, etc.  Except for skin, they all smell like some form of laundry.  Carven does not fall in that category.

It does smell young, but not overly young, like a teenager would wear it.  It is a perfect fragrance (if you're into this type of smell) for anybody in their 20-40/50's to wear, without somebody thinking you should be wearing little girl lip gloss or that it belongs on the old lady in church.

I do not get a sueded/patchouli musk scent from Carven.  It is musky, but it is a very sweet musk, and very feminine, and very light.  On me specifically, the jasmine and sandalwood makes up the majority of the lingering muskiness.  I'd associate suede/heavy patchouli with more masculine scents.  It isn't earthy.  To me it is more in the "natural" side of musky mixed with flowers.  This might gross somebody out...but I'd say it is more like if you spent time getting "busy" with a partner, and had some sweet flowers mixed in--but in a good sexual endorphins naturally turn people on kind of way-not eww you're all sweaty and stink like the gym way.  I'd classify it as the scent version of people saying you have a glow...   I haven't had breakfast yet, my descriptions are limited, work with me here, LOL.

Nirvana white doesn't reminisce dryer sheet at all to me.  I know fragrance is kind of personal, but to me that is a bit of a stretch, as well as it being heavy/woody.  Bright, in your face, strong, hell yes.  But Nirvana Black is the heavy woody one.  I don't get citrus in the White either.  :-

Having said all that, I did come across more than one review that sad Carven was strong and old lady like (which is what "scared" me off from it at first), but has since changed since being re-released.  So maybe that description is on the old version??  I don't know... but I know that is NOT how my tiny bottle smells, lol.

I'd say anybody who is into lighter, sweeter fragrances, and isn't opposed to light levels of sweet muskiness, would like Carven.  Really the musk is pretty light, like you have to have your nose an inch or two away to smell it.  My husband has dubbed it the "secret garden" perfume, because if your nose isn't right up in it, you can't smell it, lol.  Which he likes, he doesn't want to smell me across the house, lol.  I can easily wear it around people with strong allergies and it doesn't bother them, which is awesome.

Okay I need to find some breakfast, enough ramblings from me right now, LOL.  Good morning ladies!!

thank you!  after all that, the carven perk isn't even showing up for me anymore, so i guess it's a moot point for me :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Your pic made me bite the bullet and checkout my cart with the vibluxe three choices. I've been getting the small $9 size of the Ole Henrickson red tea cleanser at it lasts a long time. I'm approaching empty so got the big $30 size + a $6 sephora makeup remover travel size. Keep telling myself it's ok because I needed the cleanser. Now if I like the hourglass primer my wallet is in more trouble!!!

I dunno if it works, the code is VIBDKNY for a mini spray of DKNY Golden Delicious with a $25 order.  Looks like you have to be VIB though, and I'm still almost $300 away!
I think this one might be an old one.  I received the following message when I tried it:

Sorry, the promotion you entered has expired. Please select another promotion code.

Dangit.
