This is a bit of tangent... but I have Amazone Prime and unfortunately it is not free shipping on everything.  Just products that has the 'Prime' icon next to it.  It sounds all inculsive at the sell, but it's function is otherwise...

Yeah, this irks me about Amazon Prime, and also their new "add on" thing where they won't ship some items to you at any price (e.g. Emi-Jay headbands) unless they're included with $25 of Amazon Prime merch, which is lame. I get that small items cost a lot to ship, but the headbands aren't exactly cheap, either.

But with Amazon Prime, I think it's mostly items that Amazon stocks and sells themselves. I don't think they can offer free shipping on everything sold by 3rd party sellers and such. Plus it's free 2-day shipping (or 3-4 day standard for those of us not in the lower 48) which is highly generous considering a lot of free shipping is sent at the leisure of the company in the slowest manner possible. My family also loves and uses the Amazon Prime streaming quite a bit too :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

But I agree the add-ons thing is annoying, but I get why they do it and if it's going to keep the general cost  of things down I just save the smaller things for when I have a $25+ order or find it at Target where I can price match :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Check the prices on Prime stuff compared to other stores like Target / Wal Mart or Sephora / Ulta.  For books, movies, and the basics Prime is usually a good deal.  (We've had it for almost 5 years now.)  But for certain cosmetics and crafting items, they sometimes jack the prices up for Prime - it can border on the ridiculous.  The shipping doesn't always work out to "free" when you add in the padded purchase price.

Yeah, I enjoy the heck of the streaming.  Am doing Downton Abbey presently... yes am a year behind everyone...

But on the Prime thing, you'd be surprised!!  I was pricing bubble-mailers and thought exactly as you did on 3rd party sellers.  Then I clicked on the 'show only Prim' botton and actually saw that that 3rd party offered one mailer that is under PRIME's terms, but it wasn't bubble, Amazone just included it in my results mix.  This prompted me to comb that 3rd party's entire inventory to see if the bubble mailers might be under some different selling configuration so that i can get it w/o the $6+ shipping fee.  Like I would have been happy to buy double the quantity and have extra to share if it meant I could by pass the shipping fee.  But nothing, it was just that 100 non bubble mailer that was offered under the PRIME plan.  So I felt duped.

Gosh between Sephora's selective code offerings and Amazone PRIME, I feel like I just fell off the turnip truck....  'Picks hay out of hair.'  Makes me want to stipulate my credit card payments in a split of Thai Bhats and Egyption Pounds so that I can make them jump through some hoops for my money...  I mean why should my money be so well behaved when their end of the bargain is so not behaved?

Oh yeah I don't doubt there are 3rd party seller options better than prime, but for what I typically buy and living in AK where often 3rd party sellers can charge me more or just not ship to me at all prime has been well worth the money for us. We will all have different experiences :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

It seems like Seph is offering more Rouge-only codes and samples, or is it just me? Maybe I'm just hearing about them now and I wasn't before.

Some 3rd party offerings are "fulfilled by Amazon" so they're eligible for Prime shipping. I cbf to look it up again but I believe it's up to the seller to decide which items they want Amazon to store+ship, and which they want to do themselves, so it's not really Amazon's fault.

The things that annoys me about the Add-on requirement for Prime is that they're still kind of dumb about it. I totally understand why they implemented it but I've made a lot of orders that hit the $25 order and....guess what! The items are shipping from different warehouses so I still end up getting 2-3 separate packages anyway.

yeah, my favorite was the order that contained literally just a package of fabric patches that was an add on, but somehow shipped a day after the rest of my order and still somehow got there at the same time.  MAGIC!!

I do really love Prime though, and I definitely get my money's worth, but crafting items are hella marked up, I rarely buy beauty items from there but they frequently seem to be marked up as well.

Unfortunately the rouge codes that they just sent out could be used by VIB's too. Not that I wouldn't want all VIB's to get great promos, but it's just confirms multiple VIB accounts is the way to go vs spending it all on one to get rouge.

I think living in AK certainly makes PRIME worth one's while.  I totally get it, that's why I've been sending my (and other MUT members') beauty surplus to AFG in picked kits to the gals there.  It's all about supply and demand :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />...

I agree in that the way the guidlines is penned in regards to the seller's end of the deal, makes it not Amazon'es fault... but in regards to the way that the advertisement copy was written is their ownership and for a consumer study of one (me) it created a favorable inference that influenced my trial period and then automatic billing.  I mean now that I know my expectations have been reset, I just thought Amazone dodgy to make a statement in their advertisement with deliberate vague spin.
My miff with them is the advertisement verbiage - FREE TWO DAY SHIPPING ON MILLIONS OF ITEMS.  It's vagueness suggests a comprehensive coverage of Amazone's offerings.

If they instead amended it to say "FREE TWO DAY SHIPPING ON 'PRIME' DESIGNATED PRODCUTS" the expectations set would have been reflective of the PRIME's actual functionality.

I've always been taught to always set proper expectations and to slightly under-promise on delivery so that the consumer would be just a shade happeir and come back for more.

However, it's very smart and crafty actually of Amazone.  You get pulled in by their favorable verbiage but the over all value of the service is what does keep you, despite a deviation.  I'll keep it for this year and most likely forget to cancel for next year.

None of my purchases have crossed the 'add-on' function so I have nothing constructive to add or any observations.  It seems like a good idea to help defray cost, but if they are shipping from seperate warehouses, well....

i have a feeling that it was a coding error or something on their end that allowed VIBs to use the coupons.  I HOPE with all the backlash about it they'll correct it for the next time!

To chime in: The add-on nonsense with Amazon has had me using my shoprunner account much more often! There are very few exclusions, so I've been using drugstore.com/beauty.com and the like! I actually have a free sub through my husband's Amex account. If SR would add a few more stores, I could see them as a huge competitor to Amazon...

Hi, I'm new to this discussion (new to MUT in general), but I was wondering if anyone has had any good/bad experiences with Sephora's brand eye shadow palettes?

The Natural Instinct and Primal Instinct palettes have both been marked down to $15, its making it really hard to say no unless I knew they were of poor quality...

Also, my first Hourglass Ambient Lighting BLUSH should arrive today, I'm soooo excited!!

off topic :p:  I love amazon prime for the half price that my fiance and I pay now since it's the student rate. We're deciding if we want to keep it for the full price once the student membership expires in a month. We mainly use it to stream shows and movies (we don't have cable) and to order books. During the holidays and birthdays, prime reallllllllly comes in handy and in general it's just nice to get my package 2 days, or less sometimes, after I order.

We're having this same debate about keeping our Sam's Club membership (now if we had a Costco, there'd be no debate).

on topic: all my $1 orders came in with the glamglows! if I can get flash shipping again for $10, I'm totally going to keep it - this fee is worth it.

I've had good and bad experiences with Sephora's brand. In general, I find that their "super deal" palettes (the ones with 150 colors or something equally crazy for $49.99) aren't very good... the pigments are just very weak. Their more prestige offerings are better, but I still prefer UD and Too Faced. I bought a natural palette from them that was very similar to UD's Naked, but I don't like the texture or pigmentation nearly as much, so even while I prefer the colors in Sephora's palette overall, I find myself never using it.

Of course, experience vary and everyone has different ideals in what they're looking for in an eye shadow. If you can get a good deal, go for it! You can *always* take it back if you don't like it.

We got it when Groupon or LivingSocial was running a deal - $45 for membership, $20 gift card, and food vouchers, so the actual membership cost us $5, definitely worth it at that price ;-)

But at the full price of $45 for a regular membership, I don't know if it is. Sometimes the two of us just can't eat all the produce before it goes bad- I've stopped buying certain items (mainly their berries) because they would go bad soooooooo fast. Sam's Club aka Walmart is really understaffed so a lot of the items don't make it out of storage and onto the sales floor for a while, and this is horrible when it comes to fresh produce. I just never know how long something has sat in the back before someone brought it out. Gas is cheaper and most of our staple items are also- toilet paper, garbage bags, dishwasher tablets, that type of boring household stuff and then there are items we didn't think of buying but bought because they were such a good deal. But all in all, I think I find better fresh produce at regular grocery stores and I don't think it's worth the membership fee to go in for the other few regular items we buy. If we were a family of 4 or more, it might be, but with just the two of us...eh.
