I've entered a couple but not all of them since I've been a member, mostly because of the availability of products. You really can only be so creative if you don't have the right colors or accessories, I for one will admit that I can't afford to go out and buy makeup just for particular DTB, while some of you lucky/blessed gals have an arsenal of products to die for. :) While it may not be a popularity contest for some of course not everyone thinks like that, and there are those who vote purely out of who they know. Another thing is skill level, I LOVE my MUT sisters, I really do, but sometimes it's hard for some people to post unflattering pics of themselves, I know I've attempted to do quite a few other DTB's and just never posted the pics, because I know I looked horrible and it may be easy for other's to put pics up, and it does mark improvement, it's me just being honest when I say, I don't wanna make myself look like a total fool...LMAO. I will try to be more active in that particular forum but everybody has their own creative niche this just might not be one of them.

i dont because i dont like that there are only good comments. if i do my makeup and post it on the internet to be judged in a competition i want to be told if i look stupid or not.

i know you are just beeing nice but i cant shut my mouth so i just avoid those areas so i dont tell someone something that makes everyone mad.

i would much rather people tell me what to do to improve my makeup, and to be told what i did wrong rather than them to say you look great or just dont say anything at all.

at first i was amazed because other forums i have been on people were down right nasty on purpose and here everyone is too nice...

oh and i dont post pics on the net anymore. heh..

well, i consider my makeup abilities average, but i'm a bit intimidated. as i also need to steal my dad's camera (which takes blurry pictures since it fell on the floor sigh), i never take good pics of myself and my "it took me one hour to apply all this" makeup.

Haha. True. I guess if we were allowed to be completely honest - it would give away to nasty remarks and it seems this forum is trying to overall remove that.
If you were to ask for construction critism - ill give it to you next time. I don't hand them out because I dunno how they'll take it... some would prolly get butthurt. I know that has happen before...

i already expose way to much of myself on this board! lmao~(just kidding!)

my camera got stolen.. so now i only have a sucky one...

Also my makeup application isn't half as good as your guys' so then with a bad camera it's even worse! lol

Celly, Dizzy, I understand where you guys are coming from, but when the D2B Read Me was posted back in 2005, Leony clearly stated:

Please keep all comments/pictures on a specific theme to its own thread, and remember "if you don't have something nice to say then don't say it at all."

I think it's important to remember that these "Dare to Be" contests are meant to be fun for the participants, and was never designed to be a strict makeup competition.

I'm sure many people would not mind comments like "Hey, great job but next time why don't you try this?" or something, but some would. And flat out "Blunt" criticism would just not be appropriate.

Think about it this way: we already have low participation, we don't want to scare even more people off! Just take a look at the votes so far:

  • Never, I'm too chicken! 11
  • I'd like to, but I never get around to it! 3
  • I'd like to but I don't feel my makeup skills are up to par, the Competitors are intimidating 5
  • I WILL enter . . . someday 8
That's 27 people who are already don't have the nerve to enter!
What we need is more encouragement, to make things more fun! Not criticism to scare more people off.

Like I said, I get where you guys are coming from, but if you want a "serious" makeup competition, I don't think this is really the place. If you want to have fun, then woo!

i think you're making a good point there, it is true that to be able to participate in the dare to be's you dont have to be a professional makeup artist, and have the fiercest skills, its merely for fun, and whoever wants to enter should know that, that is the purpose of the challenges, not to get all serious about it and try to bash on people because they dont get the challenge right, so i completely agree with you, if they want criticism about their makeup i think they should post it on the face of the day forum and ask people for feedback, if the challenges were exclusively for makeup skills then i think very little of us would enter, because, as Amanda pointed out, she and some of us as well dont have the best skills in the world for makeup but we still dare to enter for the fun of it! hence the title, dare to be, this is about daring, it wouldn't be so much about daring if we knew it all in regards to makeup, don't you guys think?

Anyways, i don't want to sound redundant, or agressive for that matter, just want to encourage more members to enter as well, i LOVE seeing everyones entries

oh and another thing is.. I hope this doesnt sound mean because it's not intended that way..

I know it's supposed to be a vote on who looks the best, and I think the end result usually reflects who is the best, but when the same few people win over and over... well it just doesn't seem pointful to enter, if that makes sense.

Like it is fun and I love to see the entrants, but then sometimes I feel there is no point because my skills are just definately no match for most of the other entrants and the same 3 or 4 win every contest.

That isn't a negative attitude towards them - I do think that they deserve to win and all. I'm just saying from my point of view

I don't think you mean to be rude or mean at all, but I can see why you'd be afraid it might come off that way! It's a touchy subject for sure!

Personally, here's what I think: right now there isn't a lot of D2B participation, I don't think there has been a lot of participation in a while, so it's not unusual to see people who participate a lot, win a lot. In fact, I think there are only a few "regulars" even keeping the D2Bs alive at this point.

Of course, if a lot of people feel this way then maybe to be fair, some kind of new rule could be implemented . . . like you can participate as much as you want, but can only be submitted for voting once a month . . Maybe that's something for the MuT Staff to discuss and take into consideration as far as a "rule" to entry", since it's more about inspiration than winning for most entrants anyway.

But in the meantime don't let some good competition discourage you from trying . . . how will you know until you try? Maybe your entry could blow others out of the water!

For me it's not even about winning at all! I could care less who wins, I just want to participate and challenge myself!

well i suppose that having fun and challenging yourself are a massive part of it for me too, but then at the same time, that tiny spark of hope that you might win is what makes you push yourself to your creative limits, so if you dont have that impetus you're less likely to enter.

I'm looking forward to the next contest, if it's something I think I could do then I'll definately enter. I love looking at the pictures anyway

Oh I'm sure there's a little piece of everyone who would like to win, but to be honest, we can't really expect regular participants to bow out because other people are afraid to try! I know that may sound mean too, and I don't mean it to sound that way at all!! I think you get what I mean anyway though right?
But like I said, maybe the MUT staff can discuss the possibility of limiting how many times in a row a person can be eligible to win. We'll see
