I didn't see a  thread on this, so I figured I would start one.

My hair is (was) very curly/thick/frizzy. Not to add that I've been dying it since age 12 (now 22) so you can imagine how much damage it has.

I got a BB 8 weeks ago and LOVE it. My hair dries straight so I no longer have to worry if my hair will cooperate. It's no longer dry and coarse...the blowout really truly helped my hair.

Here is a 'before' (excuse the big ole tummy):

Here is 2 days after I got the BB, and after I let it air dry.

And I've had it now for roughly 9 weeks and it is starting to slowly wear off. Here is a pic from about a week ago of it air dried:

Your hair looks fabulous!

Curious - how much did the BB cost?

How long does a BB usually last?

Carolyn, this was recently banned in Canada if I remember correctly. There is a huge thing about it now due to formaldeyhde.

Looks awesome! I'd like to know how much as well! I can't believe the difference it makes.

Thanks for the info guys - I wasn't aware of all the health risks associated.

None the less, the results are great.

The fumes are pretty strong, and I believe they recommend that hairstylists only do 4 or less at the same time.

Anyway, my hairstylist charges $300 and gives you the products for free the first time. It's a lot of money but well worth it in my opinion.

Yea they just did a whole news spread on this a week ago about how it might cause cancer and many people were suffering from bleeding...yikes.

I'm super interested in Brazillian Blowouts and know I will get one someday.  I have pretty much the same hair as Brittany Marie so I know it will be a good choice for my hair.

I know there is a lot of controversy, but if you go to the Brazillian Blowout website (http://www.brazilianblowout.com) there products do not contain formaldehyde and they've done air quality testing in salons where their product is used.

I found this quote recently. I'd have to do some research to find out how accurate it is...

"Some products claim they don’t contain formaldehyde, but Kendall-Reed says that they may contain methyl aldehyde, which becomes formaldehyde once it’s heated by the flat iron. “It also goes by other names, such as formalin, methanal, methylene oxide, oxymethylene, morbicid acid and oxy-methane.â€

I just did a review on a formaldehyde free brazillian blowout...I will post in the AM on mut

I noticed today that at the place where i get my hair cut that they offer this service.  I mentioned that i had heard it was real controversial and that some people claim it contains formaldehyde.  My hairdresser thought the concerns were real unfounded.

I talked to my hairstylist today..she said that the company is being investigated by the health dept. and OSHA. She wont be doing any BBs until the company gives her the okay...I guess the company said that there is formaldehyde but not enough to be harmful.

They have another straightening procedure that costs $100 less, contains no formaldehyde and takes less time. She said it guarantees the same exact results and has BB clients say it gives them the exact same results. I don't remember the name but will be getting it done next week...wish me luck!

Just use a quality hair vitamin if you're trying to smooth out your hair. Instead of using chemical treatments, use nontoxic alternatives. I recommend something with argan oil. It revitalizes the scalp and shields hair against humidity - a major cause of frizz. I reviewed similar products called Inspired Shine & Repair with argan oil & Josie Maran's argan oil. I use the Inspired daily and love it. Here's the review. http://look.ac/bxmfMd

I would LOVE to find a serum that would make my hair dry naturally stright, but with my mop it aint gonna happen.

Recent release from Brazilian Blowout:

Brazilian Blowout Issues Press Release
Fighting for Stylists & Salons

LOS ANGELES, CA -- November 9, 2010) -  The following statements are attributed to Brazilian Blowout -- Last week, Brazilian Blowout (www.brazilianblowout.com) formally initiated legal proceedings in response to the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services, Occupational Safety and Health Division's (Oregon OSHA) inaccurate and unsupported conduct. Brazilian Blowout intends to seek an award of punitive damages to dissuade Oregon OSHA (OR-OSHA) from acting so recklessly again in the future. It is the company's intent to distribute all awarded proceeds to the salons and stylists who have supported Brazilian Blowout in the face of this adversity.

Flaws were immediately found in the testing methods first used by Oregon OSHA. Upon this first set of tests conducted by OR-OSHA, the organization issued an alert to Oregon hair salons about Brazilian Blowout's products. Test results publicized in OR-OSHA's release of Oct 08, 2010 are inaccurate. OR-OSHA claimed to have found levels of Formaldehyde in Brazilian Blowout Professional Solution in "upwards of 10 percent or more in some samples." OR-OSHA and its officials failed to distinguish between Formaldehyde and Methylene Glycol and published the percentage as Formaldehyde only.

The only method that accurately measures Formaldehyde in water based cosmetic products is called "13C-NMR," and OR-OSHA did not conduct this correct type of testing. Had OSHA performed this test, they would have discovered that only traces of Formaldehyde are detected, in this case .0011%.

On Oct 29th, OR-OSHA released results of a comprehensive air monitoring study conducted across seven salons, each case yielded exposure levels that are safely below OSHA's Action Level, Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL), and Short Term Exposure Limit.

Despite these findings, OR-OSHA continues to misrepresent to the public that the Brazilian Blowout product is unacceptable and dangerous. This misconduct and these misrepresentations have resulted in immeasurable damage to the tens of thousands of stylists who are successfully providing Brazilian Blowout services throughout the world.
