Beauty blender, fingers or brushes?

What is your favorite method to apply foundation?

Brushes all the way. Especially now in the world of COVID-19 sanitation / disinfecting protocols. And in the upcoming post Covid world.

Beauty Blenders maybe, but the disinfecting protocols are still evolving with these.

But both give a flawless look and finish to foundations.

I like to stick a Q-tip into my foundation and dot my skin with it. Then I spread the foundation around with a plain, makeup sponge and/or a foundation brush. I've tried a Beauty Blender once and I didn't like it.

I really don't like and do not use beauty blenders, they clog the foundation into the pores, form dry particles, in a word, they are definitely not for dry skin.
I use brushes - flat and synthetic and then just make final aссent with my fingers.

I find sponges give me the best finish although I would like to learn how to properly use a foundation brush.

Hello! I apply my product with a damp makeup brush then blend all of it with a damp beauty blender. That ways the application becomes a lot smoother and gives me a flawless base. I recommend using a damb beauty blender after brush because it makes sure that no brush strokes are left on your face.

It really depends on whether it is a liquid, cream or powder-based foundation. If it is liquid you do tend to have to "warm" it up or "activate it" and so when it is liquid based I put some of the product on the back of my hand and then warm it up with my finger before applying it to the face with my foundation brush or damp. If it is a cream base foundation I use my foundation brush or a damp sponge and if it is powder based then I would use a fluffy brush or damp sponge.

However, the "warming" or "activating" a foundation is a myth due to how foundation ingredients are currently formulated, regardless if it's a liquid, creme, or powder. I've done a lot of editorial fashion make-ups in the late 90's to mid 00's and I've worked with a lot of flamboyant MuA's who did the "warming" and "activating" thing and that was their schtick, technique, thing, whatever they called it that sold themselves apart from other MuA's, y'know showmanship, as you know it's all egos in this small make-up community.

Friction is what warms up a foundation when it's almost frozen, and that's what a palette and spatula are for. Shaking a foundation is what activates it in terms of mixing it up in the bottle, tube etc. in truth, there is no "activating" a foundation, even when you put it through an airbrush. Damp sponges work well in thinning or building up a foundation, so there are options.

No Professional Make-up Artist puts foundation on-the-back-of-their-hand or use fingers anymore as it's very unhygienic, messy and looks very unprofessional, and this was way back in the early 2000's. Now after the pandemic, it's even more so, it's even written into contracts with all the actor and crew unions now. And we all know how demanding actors and brides can be now, don't we, lol.

That's a good point! Yes, I only use my hands if it's my own face. If I'm working on a client, I do always use tools and brushes because it is definitely not hygienic to use your hands with clients.

Yeah, I've always been taught that you have to stir/shake the liquid foundation in order for it to apply properly.
