Since a huge portion of the welcome message is to indicate that ALL folks are welcome here, it might make people who are hesitant to post feel more comfortable if they saw the wide range of who the staffers are?

Just a thought.
The problem with that is that if a member gets angry at a staff member then they can use that photo to make nasty comments and attempt to bully and ridicule them with that pic. Worse are the crazies out there who will go hunt down a picture from another website of the person to look up their personal information. I don't want staff to be subjected to that but if they want to share what they look like in a non-staff page via the FotD or whatever then it's up to them since it still gives them a bit of anonymity.

I agree with you to an extend zadi, but from what I understand this site isn't just supposed to be a no personlity forum like say gurugossip.....it's also supposed to be a community where users feel welcome. If the people who run the site aren't comfortable opening up and don't feel confident the site is a safe place, why should users? Everyone is subject to bullying....you know first hand I even changed my username here over it. I just feel like mods act sort of like the face and welcome mat of the community if that makes sense. To me it would be better for the site to make a zero tolerance policy known so users feel protected by the site, and for the mods to keep their head up and not act out of fear.

Unfortunately a zero tolerance policy would only work to protect anyone on this particular website, and I've learned the hard way one too many times once something is posted on the internet, you can't take it back.

Everyone's internet safety is up to them. If someone doesn't want to post a picture online, they aren't going to do it just because the mods post their faces everywhere.

I'd love to see the mods faces! :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> Seeing mods participate in FotD posts, or to see them get really interactive in areas that they know a lot about, and such, would be a lot of fun and add to the sense of community. I know I'd post a lot more outside of the sub forums if I noticed the kind of activity that many say was the norm around here before. I loveLOVE all things beauty!

I initially found MUT from researching subs. I did have a look around other forums, posted a few times, but noticed people weren't very active elsewhere.

Agreed completely. I have no issues putting myself out there cause really, you can only be called ugly and fat so many times before it just plain doesn't bother you anymore. But not everyone feels that way.

I totally understand wanting to keep some things private....but even if you don't want to show your face or have your name known wouldn't it be nice to do more in areas you are comfortable with? Like a fashion girl could post outfits of the day or start a section about the latest runways shows.....a nail girl could do picture tutorials, reviews on the latest polishes. Same with a hair girl....there are tons of people like myself who are clueless about what products are for them or how to style. Heck we could even have a food section where someone can post a recipe a day. It'd be nice to have mods in different areas of their interest to go to for advice and the latest information. For a makeup girl like myself I'd just really love to see someone jump on board who will do things like fotd's, product reviews, and an occasional video.

I see both sides and my two cents is that I never took the mod position as a power play or leadership role. Yes, I stumbled a upon MuT when googling BB, but stayed because I enjoyed the other posts and larger community. When I asked about the mod position and what it entailed, it was explained and compared to something like a lifeguard's position. I personally don't have a blog and only have a rudimentary knowledge of makeup compared to some of you amazing and oh so knowledgeable beauty superstars lol. Advice is given by all, that's the point of this forum and all it contains. Plus, I don't want to come off as an expert or all-knowing grand poo bah by raving all over the forum like my word or pics is the law haha. I've yet to participate in FOTD/NOTD, but if it's wanted..sure. Just saying, it may be pretty tame compared to more adventurous ladies lol. The community and interests and keeping the forum running falls on everyone, as well. If it's getting stale, make a recommendation or start new threads. Like any community, everyone has a role and something to contribute to keep things running. Quid pro quo lol. But I guess you'll be seeing a mugshot of me soon. Not right now, though. I'm coming off my work week of 12 hr nights, scrubbed myself clean and already slathered my night cream on, so you'll just have to wait a day or two lol. My goodness, now the pressure is on!

You are welcome to post anything you want in the make up forum. Please feel free to participate!

I know when I personally have posted swatches of collections or similar things, the response has never been huge. I still do it, but not very often, because it doesn't seem there is a market for it here. If the general MuT populace actually wants this, and isn't just trying to stir things up with the mods, I'd be happy to do it more often. For example: this post got 2 replies: https://www.makeuptalk.com/t/128477/glamour-doll-eyes-summer-girls-collection

The other thing is, I'm usually on MuT at work. Modding is easy from here, I can delete anything that needs it and welcome new members with no problem. Its a lot harder for me to take pictures of make up and post swatches and the like from my desk.

There's also two problems with that.

  1. Some people don't care about rules and will deliberately bend or break those rules.
  2. When a moderator or administrator has to enforce the rules because the person broke or bent it then that person will run to their friends about the moderator or administrator being on a power trip. This in turn gets that member and her group of friends to then become mean girls and try to be underhanded even more so with subtle jabs here and there.

If we had a zero tolerance policy here then there would be so many more bans for the slightest reason.

And really "Be polite and respect other members and staff. Blatant mean posts will result in banning of user account and/or ip address." should be good enough. It's not like we are not all adults here. A zero tolerance policy shouldn't have to be stated, it should just be.

I agree with this. There are so many different areas of beauty products and let's say someone has no interest in makeup but does fantastic things with nail polish. Or like me, I could tell you only a little bit about high end makeup, and most of that would be from reading what others have said about it, but I can talk about budget beauty. So yes, each reader and each mod has their own contributions that add to the site. I think what many of us have noticed is that there are less and less mods interested in makeup which translates to less and less posts from readers about makeup. The mods encourage posting through knowledgeable replies, interesting topics, I guess just plain leadership and keeping the threads active. And it just seems like the makeup areas are slowly dwindling, while the major interest is in subs. Before I got interested in little black bag I would show up see that there was very little new in the makeup talk area and wander off. I think I would have left months ago if it wasn't for lbb and that bothers me. I used to love this site so much and so many of the people that I had interacted with on the makeup threads are gone, I assume they didn't find a sub that interest them so that they could at least be active there?
Ahh, that is so true for me also. The poor makeup forum has gotten completely overshadowed by the subscription forums. Which obviously means the majority of active members are interested in discussing subscriptions, and that's totally fine, but for users like me who hate sifting through a 30 page long thread about the current month's Birchbox, participating in a discussion becomes a little cumbersome.

I've been a member for over a year now and MUT was very different from when I first joined. I would always check the FOTD's because of Jeanarick, she undeniably made that forum awesome. I don't think every mod should be required to post their face if they don't want to, but perhaps seek out some potential staff members who do want to share looks, tutorials, and FOTD's like Jeanarick. At the end of the day, we all love MUT and just want it to be kept active and interesting :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

The issue here is it seems like everyone is assuming we haven't tried to do this very thing. So I'll just cut to the chase. Are you, GirlyEnthusiast, interested in heading up the FOTD to make it like you remember it?

Are you kidding? You set up the awesome circular swaps everyone loved and I know must have been really time consuming. That alone is a really cool thing I've never been able to be a part of outside of this forum. And I think all posts here are kind of hit or miss..... some of mine have like 1 comment and 5 views, while others randomly have 100 comments and thousands of views. I wouldn't be discouraged over that at all if it is something your interested in trying out

No, I'm not or I would have volunteered to do it already. I'm not assuming that you all have or haven't tried, it was just a suggestion to increase activity. Maybe you can recruit outside of the MUT members, like inviting people from youtube or popular bloggers or something. Just trying to offer some insight :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I bit all my nails off a few weeks ago and haven't had the guts to look at them to paint them since lol.

Jenna's nails in that avi is responsible for my interest in Butter London. I didn't really paint my nails much beyond pink or red when I joined MUT, fast forward a year or so later and I now own close to 100 nail polishes (thank you Julep, and my obsession with pretty nail pics like Jenna's).

I was a biter for 23 years of my life lol...I only stopped probably...last October. Actually my nail biting is the reason for my polish obsession And I just must've brokedown because once I bit them off that first time, I've continued. Aghhhh, if I just put some polish on them, I'll be ok again....I'll just have to deal with looking at an ugly chewed up manicure for a week or two.
