i was actually in Shoppers drug mart last week and i had seen paul mitchell products & bed head and so on. I was a bit shocked that they seemed to leak out into drug stores. I compared the prices between salons and drug stores and their only a few dollars difference. After reading this, I will be staying away from drug store professional hair care products. Thanks for this article

I'm bumping up this info. I saw some other threads that relate to this and I though it would help answer some peoples questions.

BTW Paul Mitchell recently pulled products from a local CVS. The distributor who sold CVS the product has been under investigation for gray marketing. So the industry efforts are paying off.

Hey ladies, quick one on how to detect a fake. CVS, WALGREENS, TARGET, etc. all have fake salon only products. An easy way to see if its what ur suppose to be getting, look on the back of the bottle. Where it says "Guaranteed only when sold by a professional hairdresser, otherwise it may be counterfeit, old, or tampered with." This SHOULD be in bold lettering. Phony products do have that quote, but it is not in bold, making it harder to spot when reading the back. Dont know if this is true for every professional product.

My hairdresser told me that Nexxus had decided to stop being a "salon only" line and had gone retail. She was not able to get it with her usual discount at the wholesale beauty supply any longer. Was she given incorrect information?

Yes thats true. I talked to them not long after I saw it in wal-mart. They said they had not been doing well in the salon market for a long time and decides to go OVC to regain sales. With all the new products that were coming out with other companies it was hard to compete in the market.
BTW thanks Andrew for that info. I have heard that too. I have seen that before with Paul Mitchell fakes. I've seen it also gone altogether.

That sucks! I always like to buy those products at Rite-Aid, and they're usually cheaper. Thanks for letting us know though! It should be illegal.
