I'm currently using a Conair that has pretty much seen its last days. So, for my birthday, I want a new straightener.  In your opinion, which ones are the best? Chi?  Argan infused?

I also have a CHI and a Conair. Believe it or not, I use my Conair more. The CHI is over rated. Also I have the INSTYLER which is amazing and I highly recommend it.

I use the Solia flat iron 1-1/4" and I totally love it, it's tourmaline, ceramic.

My hair is really thick and curly and it works great, also it doesn't pull your hair cause the plates have some motion on them.

You should definitely check it out.

I've eyeballed the Instyler for over a year now.  I have a hard time spending $100 for a straightener.  UGH!!!!!

I bought one called Le Angelique at winner for 30 bucks around Christmas, it works great heats up fast, its pink and even has an ed hardyish dragon design on it!! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I was looking at the Le Angelique on Amazon.  They have sooooo many!!!!!!  I'm interested in the Turbo silver/pink one for around 60 but even though it says 1.25" the plate looks sooooo tiny.  There's soooo much out there I can't decide.

My hairdress recommended a Baybliss.  It's what she uses in her salon.  I got it on Amazon (almost half the price of what it costs retail) and I LOVE it.  I got one for my daughter also.  She has very thick, wavy hair and it gets it stick pin straight in half the time of a Chi! The titanium plates are better for your hair.  I have very thick naturally curly hair and use it daily on my bangs, but when I want to change up my hairstyle I use it to go totally straight.

With my other flat irons I always had to wash my hair, apply straightening product, blow out my hair, then straighten with the flat iron.  But not with my Baybliss - I can go from curly to straight in about 20 minutes.

If you want a professional flat iron and you are ok with spending around $140 I would highly recommend the Karmin G3 Salon Pro, it heats up to 450f with temperature control, dual voltage, tourmaline ceramic plates with rounded edges which makes it great for also curling your hair. Also has a 3 year warranty. If you buy from http://MyHairStylingTools.com they are also giving away a free heat matt/carrying case and some heat serum that works really well. If you do look at other irons make sure to stay away from irons with painted plates (colored plates) these can damage your hair.

A little about plate quality:

* Aluminum – 90’s and low quality, will stick to your hair and terrible results.

* Colored Plates – Stay away from these, they may look nice but they are for show and they are not good for your hair.

* Ceramic Plates – White or Yellowish color plate – These plates are good but they are older technology from around 2002. Many companies still use these as it is cheaper to manufacture than a tourmaline ceramic plate.

* Titanium Plates – Gun Metal Grey color – These are great plates and provide great results. These and Tourmaline Ceramic plates are about the same in quality but work different with different hair types. You would need to try both to see which one provides the best results for your hair type.

* Tourmaline Ceramic – Gun Metal Grey in color – These are currently the best plates on the market. currently I only see Karmin and Sedu using these plates. It appears all the other brands are focused on cutting costs by using the cheaper plates.

Some features you should look for:

* Variable Temperature Control (If you have thick hair make sure it heats up to at least 420F)

* Swivel Cord

* At least a 3 year warranty (most hair straighteners will die in the first year or two)

* If you travel then make sure its dual voltage

You can also check reviews at http://flatironsreviews.com to see their ranking of the top 10 flat irons. Good luck and I hope this helps.

I know it's awesome - right?....  I got the style that has the plates that curve up on the side so if my daughter wants to put a little curl in her hair she can.

!  The one I would want would be just at $200.  My husband would keel over if I asked him for that for my birthday.
