So after some thought, Id like to grow my hair again. Maybe down to my ass...no just kidding! But I havent let my hair grow for years so I dont know what to do. I dye my hair a light brown color every, roughly 4 months so it takes a toll at my ends. So any recomendation/tips to grow healthy hair is appreciated

I thought to ask here since many of you know tricks of the trades and such

I recommend ensuring you get your ends trimmed every 4-6 weeks... Try the HealthySexyHair a lot of us are raving about! My hair has definitely felt healthier since I started using it, and it's only been about three weeks tops. I have really dry, damaged hair from years of coloring and relaxing, and this is probably the best shape it's ever been in since I was a kid!

True, but everytime I tell a hair dresser trim, they usually chop off my hair. But I going to try that HealthySexyHair line everyone loves! Thanks Aquilah

NP! My last hair dresser didn't give me a "real" trim when she did it. I always complained about losing too much length if she did. What she ended up doing was taking my hair (almost like you'd trim it with it between your index and middle fingers), except instead of cutting an inch or whatever, she'd just cut the scragglies. Just to kind of match the ends... I have NO IDEA if that made sense... It still helped my hair, and I didn't lose a lot from it. Maybe you could try having it trimmed dry instead of wet so you know exactly how much you'll be losing?

Yep HSH rocks my world too!

Aquilah I always had long hair growing up and that's how Mom would trim my hair. I don't know what the technical name for it is though.

I have been growing my hair out for 2.5 years... boy was mine short! Anyways... take pictures of yourself to see the difference! I was amazed even looking back a few months!! yeah make sure you get it cut 4-6 weeks.. that really helped my hair stay healthy. Try taking some vitamins from like GNC... helps with healthy hair and helps to grow faster... Good Luck!!

Yup... even snipping just the very tips can help prevent splits. And yes, the HSH is awesome!

I would recomend getting clip in hair extentions. That way when you are so sick of your hair length at the current moment you can clip in the extentions and remember what you are working for.

Recommend Raquel welch 100% real clip in hair. They are the best!

Yeah, I used some vitamins I got at GNC about four years ago, and my hair grew superfast, had to trim it every three weeks.

A suggestion you might think's really weird, but works for some, trim the hair only during the first week of a new moon.

a trim once in a while is good to get rid of split ends and help hair grow faster. My hairdresser messed up my hair and i used to have a boy cut. I thought i'd never be able to get my length back so i gave up on my hair. I stopped styling it, stopped blowdrying, stopped trimming ... onli thing i did was shampoo and condition .. and in no time @ all, i now have my length back hehe ...

you can google and find some good long hair forums. im growing mine out too and the tips help so much!

Ive been hearing much about this product: Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment. Has anyone heard about it or used it? It looks pretty awesome so Im going to try it and see if it can help my hair.

Terri: Im was really considering a natural alternative

LVA:..I love my hair dryer more than you can imagine so quiting all together is a big no-no

But quiting is so great for your hair! Thats how I used to grow my hair when I was younger and had straighter hair.

If you can't bring yourself to totally lay off the blow drying, try air drying it first, and then using a cooler setting maybe to just go back over it. It took me almost a good 8 years to get my hair this long from the constant relaxing, coloring and blow drying. It was at my ears, and now it's probably about 5-6 inches above my bottom!

I'm also trying to grow my hair long! This is what I do..

-No heat styling (except on special occasions, like balls, weddings, etc)

-No colouring. I'm trying so hard to grow the dyed hair out, wish I'd never coloured it

. It frys your hair

-Use gentle products, I use baby shampoo.

-No brushing when your hair is wet.

Hey cool! I love my long hair, and have been growing it since 2002 now.

Some people's hair is stronger than other's and can handle the dye much better at longer lengths, but I'm definitely not one of them. I recommend either stopping the dyeing completely, or if you always use the same colour, just touching up the roots when you need to, it's easy to do at home too. I also don't get anywhere if I trim more than twice a year or so, as most hairdressers will cut of months of progress even if you ask them not to. Hair only grows at an avarege of ½ an inch a month or so, so depending on how long you want to go you're in for a long ride.

The Long Hair Community has a lot of info on growing your hair long, I really recommend taking a look.

Which line do you use, like do they have one for color treated hair. I know Janelle always raves about hsh>

I heard before that to cut your hair during a full moon, is the new moon the same thing? I know they list it differently on the calendar?? So which one do I go with???

I didn't get trim at all for a few years and now my hair almost reaching to my booty. Being cheap helped.

And don't forget brushing hair(with good quality brush) and scalp massage gently.

Instead of trimming your hair every few weeks I recommend you buy a pair of professional hair sissors at Sally Beauty (use them for hair only) and do what is called a dusting. Twist the hair in small sections and the ends will pop up, then search for any split or damaged ends and snip them off individually.

Then you will only need to get an all over trim every 4 months or so to keep the general shape. Dusting is great because it trims the hairs at any length not just at the bottom of your hair, while allowing the majority of your hair that is in good shape to not be cut shorter.

Which kind of scissors at Sally's would I buy, they have several different kinds? Are they expensive? This sounds like a great idea/
