cotton candy I also received 3 other dresses

I FINALLY got my package, which was very HUGE! It had a pair of boots, two coats, a dress and a skirt.

90034 MTNG boots

This Bea and Dot skirt which doesn't fit me at all. It's SO HUGE that I think it would fit a 4x (I'm 2x)

Myrtlewood Coat worth $130! But it's extremely huge on me and also very long (I'm 5'3") so I may end up selling this....

This one is called Writer's Block Party Coat, which actually fits me pretty well! This one's a keeper.

Lastly, I can't identify this one at all. I know it's a Fervour dress but I can't find it.

It's kind of meh. I wish it were a few inches smaller. I have no idea how to dress this one up.

[@]curled[/@] I LOVE LOVE that last dress. I would remove that bow sash (looks like that's laced in, right? You can probably take it out / in as you wish) and either find a nice, tan skinny belt to loop through or a thicker belt to place on top of that. I would also probably wear it with either a nice necklace (but maybe not something too statementy like a bubble necklace... That's too much) OR one of those Peter Pan collar necklace things. Id go with blue tights and heels (still chilly in WI) or some really cute but fun flats.

Ahh my last order wasn't supposed to get here until Saturday but I just checked the tracking & it's arrived at my post office as of late last night! Hoping it gets delivered today

Mine isn't supposed to get here till Saturday but is apparently taking it's sweet time leaving New Berlin, WI.  They transferred the info to USPS though so MAYBE tomorrow!  Hoping both of us get these soon!

As bummed as I was about my grab bag, while I was stalking IG waiting for my pacage I ended up buying a green w/bird print Yumi dress from another poster. It came today and I love it even more than I thought I would... I'd totally pay $39 ($24 for my two, plus $15 for the trade purchase) for this dress, so I'm much more okay with having two completely useless purchases now :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> So yeah for trading with completely random folks based on IG pics! lol

I LOVE those boots!  Congrats.  You received great items.  That myrtlewood coat is beautiful!  Too bad it's not my size - I would totally offer to buy it from you.  I bought that last dress last year and had to return it.  It looked great on the mannequin, but not so much on me.  Let me see if I can find the link for you.

Edit: Here's the link to your dress.  http://www.modcloth.com/shop/dresses/cute-to-the-cordial-dress

Unfortunately the sash is sewn on. I'm considering trimming the bow part off and just making it look like a band though, and covering it with the belt. It just looks really awkward though since I can't tighten the waist. I'll probably wear tights and flats under though! Since it's chilly here too (in NorCal)

Thanks for the link! But wow even when it's fitted it looks kind of bland to me...

I actually wore the boots and coat to class today and got so many compliments! The boots I'm keeping for sure since they're the only pair of boots I wear that are so flipping comfortable. I think I scored with them since they're worth ~$90. And as much as I love the myrtlewood coat's style, it's just way too huge so I'm hoping someone will take and enjoy it from me *cries*

Does anyone have any experience hemming chiffon-type fabrics? (I think it's called chiffon, maybe not. It's like a sheer breezy summer fabric that a lot of Maxi dresses are made of!). I don't own a proper sewing machine so it would have to be done by hand.

I ended up getting a floral dress that I LOVE but is about 4 inches too long--it touches the ground even when I'm wearing heels, haha.

I also got a super cute houndstooth dress that zips up okay but is really tight across my chest. Anyone looking for small items to trade? I'd love to trade for another dress, PM me! I can take pics of both items this weekend (ugh haven't slept in like a week haha.)

Sewing chiffon can be pretty tricky (I actually can't imagine sewing by hand, but I am very dependent on my sewing machine). Anyway, you want to make sure your nails are filed and you're not wearing any rings or jewelry that might snag when handling it. Also, chiffon has a tendency to fray, so you'll want to be careful not to play with the fabric too much once it's cut.

The best ways to hem chiffon all involve things like an overlocker. But there are ways to work around it. The most important thing is that you don't leave a raw (cut) edge sticking out. You'll want to fold the hem over once, sew it all the way around, and then fold it over again so that the raw edge is tucked it, and sew it all the way around once more.

This ehow tutorial actually looks pretty useful for what you're trying to do.

I hope it works out!

You can try doing a hand-rolled hem: http://www.coletterie.com/tutorials-tips-tricks/tutorial-how-to-create-a-hand-rolled-hem. You will need a line of stitching to keep the fabric from stretching out while you're doing it. Also, check to see if you can safely iron the fabric.

It's going to take a long time, so unless you're the type who finds repetitive motions soothing, it may be worth it to have it professionally altered, which shouldn't cost more than $10.

Thanks @LindaD and @Dashery for the tips. I wish I had a sewing machine! It does sound like quite a task by hand. I'm thinking about investing in one--I'm short enough that I have to hem things pretty often. If it turns out that it's actually in the $10-20 range for hemming, I might just spring for a professional job! I'm just hoping it's not more.

Here are pics of my dresses:

Dress from Esley -- too tight on top for me but would love a trade! It's a very nice dress. Sad that it doesn't fit me properly. Size small. I would estimate that it fits more like a 2 on top and more like a 4 on bottom.

Floral dress that's way too long but I love! Maxi dress, cute chiffon. Am looking into hemming (if there are any recs and or length ideas in the boston area, that would be awesome!)

Closeup of fabric.

Hey there, fyi, you may want to edit your post to take out your referral link. They'll flag you for it. I only know because I did it once without realizing it wasn't allowed and was given a warning.

My next SS box is SOMEWHERE in the city of Chicago and is insisting on crawling to my house.  Please please please get here soon!

Yeah, didn't know. Already edited. Thanks! Can you please edit it out of your post, too?

Got my last package today! I was afraid they were going to be horrible, because they're the ones I ordered when Mediums were randomly back in stock for a few minutes, but I LOVE what I got!

Phone is being ridiculous so I'll have to post pictures later, but I got a really cute mint lace skirt & a very comfy looking maxi dress

Now if only it weren't 30 degrees here...

Never ordered from ModCloth so I thought this would be a good first purchase. They had L (and smaller) bags available and I was unsure if they would fit me but I caved in. The results were sort of what I expected - two pieces fit me great, one sort of fits me (skirt - I can get the zipper up but not the buttons done), one that kinda doesn't fit (top, I can get it on but not do buttons), and one that doesn't fit at all (the one I liked the best from the batch, too -http://www.modcloth.com/shop/dresses/business-lunch-break-dress - the material is really tight). Seems I run pretty firmly at least size 12 and I more so got size 10 pieces.

Got my last 5 here! I'm unsure about all of them. We'll see. I got this top from Rock Steady: http://www.toofastonline.com/p-17926-mindy-top-black-and-mint-green.aspx?gdftrk=gdfV27576_a_7c1183_a_7c3410_a_7cSTEADY_d_RS71320_d_1X&gclid=CLGi7dffxb0CFUVgMgodtHoAcQ and it's fine, but I dunno if I'll wear it.  A tank top from Tic Toc that's black on two sides and has a checkered white pattern in the middle- interesting, I'll have to try it on.  I got a Bettie Page dress but it's SO NOT ME http://www.modcloth.com/shop/dresses/little-bow-peep-dress.  I also got this one kind of (same fabric, but spaghetti strapped) http://www.yoursclothing.co.uk/P/Navy_and_Stone_34_Sleeve_Dragonfly_Skater_Dress_with_Belt-(21354).aspx , and it's also not me.  I got this beautiful floral dress from Cocolove that's red and purple and grey and black and mustard.  To the trades board!
