I was wondering if anyone knows of a serum you can put through your hair to emphasise the tips of your layers?

I'm not really sure how to explain. So i drew a picture :/

I want nice, flowly layers as opposed to big clumpy ones where the tips go everywhere. I have really thick hair soo, i always think the layers look gross and fluffy.

When i had my hair cut and styled, i think a hairdresser put a serum through my hair to make the tips more defined.

I want to know how to style my hair/ layers to make them flow nicely, without them being straight or curled.

I know it's silly to compare my hair to Cheryl's, because she's got loads of people working on her hair every day. But the same question applies, how does she get her layers to look so nice and defined?

A lot of it will depend on how the layers are cut in and also styled. Certainly for Cheryls hair it will have been blow dryed and styled to an inch of its life! Most serums will emphasise layers but its the blowdrying that gives the definition.

I use Tommyguns Dew Drops serum after drying/styling and this works really well.

Blowdrying with a big round vent brush will bring out the layers. My hair is cut in layers and that is what my hairdresser does every time. I can't get my hair to look as good at home as it does after my hairdresser does it. I think it has to do with the fact that I don't have as much time to blow dry it with such detail and it's a lot harder to style and blow dry your hair yourself than have someone else do it. My hairdresser uses Alterna Caviar products and they make a huge  difference in my hair. I use John Masters Texturizer at home on dry hair to bring out the layers but the effect doesn't last unless I use a bit of hair spray. Having the right hair cut is the key for the hair lay correctly especially if you have a really thick hair. I took our 4 year-old to my hairdresser because I was tired of battling with her super thick hair and it as cut in layers so beautifully that we don't need to do anything with it. It lays beautifully naturally because of the way the layers are cut and brushes out beautifully. I don't need to blow dry it or anything.

My hair is layered and quite long now - bra strap length.

If I blow dry and flat iron, I can get the nice flowy look you are trying to obtain.

I always put serum through out my hair, prior to flat ironing.

Seems to give my hair some protection from the heat, and gives my hair nice definition.

I like using the flat iron to soften the ends, more than the curling iron - the flat iron gives me more control.

Have you checked out U tube - there are a lot of styling hair videos that will show you step by step, how to get the look you want.

this is what i used to do when i had layers to get that piecey look your going for- after blowdrying & kinda fanning the ends out using a round brush, i'd take a dab of wax and put it on the ends only, it really helps to get that look!! i like garnier fructis's sculpting wax!! also you can use the wax to hold parts, just be careful not to use too much or it'll make you look greasy!! like a dimesize  dopple should be enough...HTH
