If left to it's natural state I would have salt and pepper hair. I've been dyeing it med. golden brown for years.

I'd like to let it go back to it's natural color but I don't want to sacrifice the length.

Can I used a color gloss or semi-permanent color while it's growing out.

Any opinions?

i'm using a semi perm color to cover my gray and it seems to work pretty well. i don't have any permanent color in my hair right now, so i'm not sure if your hair would suffer, but i really like the texture and fullness i'm getting from the semi perm product. maybe someone with more experience using color will chime in. i'm pretty much a novice at this color thing. lol~

I'd like to know my options too when I reach this stage.

my hair is going grey too but i dont dye but what might work is having some highlights/lowlights put just in the root area, might help

i was wondering this too. ive been getting grays since i was 17 (im 23 now) and i dont want to be like my mom who has spent decades dying her hair. i just want to keep it the grey/silver that it is/will be.

my hairdresser lowlighted my gray hair and it looked nice for a week until the gray roots started coming in.  now it looks awful, I don't want to get my roots touched up constantly.  I used to do my hair very light blonde and you couldn't see the roots as bad.  She thought the light blonde washed me out, which is true, and the brown lowlights really popped, but what do I do now?

Maybe its just the tone of the light blonde.

If you have a lot of pink in your skin, you have cool undertones - ash or neutral dye would be best.

If your natural hair colour was reddish, golden or neutral - then a light blond with gold, red or neutral tones is better.

Also, you might consider a medium light blond rather than a light blond - only a slight difference but will give more depth.

My boyfriend doesn't want to go grey so we have been experimenting with dyes in the light to medium blond range, with ash tones.

He looks great but it takes work to find the right shade.

i was wondering the same thing. i have salt and pepper hair too but i dye my hair dark brown ever so often... and i'm thinking about growing my hair our so its jsut in its natural state - i don't want to dye my hair for the rest of my life.. and i certainly can no go with any blonde dyes since i'm asian.

what do i do?
