How do I do this

Right. I want lighter hair. I have chocolate medium brown hair. A Color 4. Now I want to be a Color 6 Which is 1 maybe 2 shades lighter than my own. I do dye it myself. I last did it a few week ago but only the roots for 5 mins leaving it on. It does fade quite fast too. Will I be able to lift it? Would a salon be better? Also how will they do it? Just cover me in bleach? I've had a strand test done before when my hair was a shade or 2 darker an it lifted to a brassy orange with abit of yellow. Thanks for any help.

I would go to a salon, unless you're really experienced in dying your hair. I would try to color many strands of my hair rather than all my hair, so that your current haircolor would look like dyed strands.
