Hello,

Ever since I was a little girl and even now continuing into my adult life, if my hair is long and past my shoulders, if I left it down, I get knots in the back. Whether it's straightened or curled, it always gets a knot. I've asked many hair dressers and have tried their recommendations and nothing has worked. I would looovvveee to have long, long hair that's not in a ponytail only. Some of the stuff that I've tried:

Biosilk, lotion, dry shampoo, leave in conditioner, hot oil treatment...and I don't remember what else. Anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks!!!

Makeup Love,

Maya

Try brushing your hair more often through out the day. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> That way you can prevent knots from getting big, or tight.

I used Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum after i wash my hair to keep tangles away and make my hair dry faster.  Nexxus also has a few products that are good, but i can't recall their names.

apply it to the ponytail part of your hair only.  make sure you brush it before you shower and comb it afterwards. always use a conditioner.

I've heard hot oil is not good for your hair too, but i have never tried it.

keep your hair trimmed, every couple of months, this helps a lot to prevent tangles.  also make sure you have the right type of hair brush for your hair and not one that causes static.  running a brush through it during the day is probably necessary with really long hair.

Try using a silicon serum, after hair has been washed and dried.

Brush hair a few times during the day, and sleep with your hair in a pony tail at night.

My hair does this too.  The only thing I've found that works is brushing more throughout the day.

When brushing, I brush the ends first, then I brush the bottom half, then I brush from the top.  If you get knots, brushing from the top all the way down will just compress the knots.  I find that brushing the bottom first gets rid of those knots, then brushing from the middle, brushes any of those knots...then I can brush all the way through.

If you sleep with your hair tied up, make sure it's with a soft hair tie -- the movement of your head during sleeping with your hair tied up can cause your hair to break at the tie if it's too tight!

Also, I always use a separate shampoo and conditioner.  For me, the 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioners never do a good job of conditioning my hair.  It might help if you're not doing this already!

Yea I too suffer from the same thing. I found the only thing that has worked is to brush it more through out the day. I never had this prob until I started letting it grow out more instead of cutting it.

1st question- Do you wash your hair everyday?

2nd- What do you use/do to/on your hair? Heat? Shampoo and Cond? Stylist products?

3rd- Have you chemically alt your hair in any way?

I brush my hair at night, comb it throughout the day, i have fine hair too so i like to use thin spaced combs too to make sure i get all the tiny knots. Keeping it trimmed helps a lot because broken ends are so knot friendly it's actually a good indicator for me i need a haircut.

yeah as you can see in my picture, i pin my hair up and put in a head band during volleyball practice... i swear in this pic, I just got home from playing..

when i take it down I brush my ends, brushing from underneath... i feel like i get to the knots better and not causing more damage...
