Well, I have always had long soft healthy hair, until i had to do swim everyday for sixweeks. Now it is matty and breaking and falling out alot. I got a good conditioning treatment and it still is matting and getting more and more split ends. The only way i can get it to stop matting is if i only use shampoo and no conditioner, i dont know how to get it back to the way it was, help please:)

Don't wash too frequently, eat some healthy food which have less oil, and enough exercises is need. Furthermore, go to the barbershop to do some hair care,  good luck!

Have you tried using a leave in conditioner instead? Maybe that could be a solution. Also make sure not to wash your hair too often.

Good luck xo

I assume you weren't wearing a bathing cap to protect your hair?

I don't understand how only shampoo with no conditioner is going to stop mating and tangling.

Have you thought about only using conditioner on no shampoo - called "no poo" or "co wash"

If you are still swimming, make sure you wear a cap to protect your hair from chlorine. And consider applying a silicon serum to hair before swimming - might protect hair from further damage.

And make sure you rince hair very well after it has been exposed to pool water/chlorine. If not, the chlorine will stay in hair and cause further dryness and damage.

If you swim in the future dampen your hair beforehand, apply a 'swim and sun' protective product AND use a swimming cap, then rinse your hair immediately you get out followed by a 'swim and sun' shampoo. The chlorine is swimming pools is a form of bleach which can permanently damage the protein structure of the hair so you probably need to cut the worst of the damage out. For the rest use a chelating/ 'swim and sun' shampoo a couple of times, then stop using any shampoo containing sulphate surfactants as these are very drying.

As Dragonfly suggests conditioner only (CO) washing is great for damaged hair, as is contains cationic surfactants which are far gentler than anionic surfactants in shampoo. If you quit sulphates you also need to quit the silicones in most conditioners and styling products or they will build up on your hair. Silicones coat the hair with a protective layer, providing slip and faux shine BUT form a barrier against emollients and humectants. Instead start intensive heat treating with an oil-based product (research shows coconut oil best penetrates the hair shaft). As Jelena suggests a leave-in conditioning cream can be more nourishing and protective than a daily wash out one but do check for silicones. To limit mechanical damage do not brush your hair just go gently with a rake comb, blot dry with a microfibre towel or old t-shirt instead of rubbing with a terry towel, no heat styling just air dry, a silk or satin pillowcase instead of cotton, if you use up-dos choose loose ones with elastics or pins that are kind to hair.

HTH!

Try putting some olive oil in your hair at night then wash it off it the morning. Hopefully it would help a bit.

But your hair is probably already damaged and you'll have to wait until it grows out to truly get healthy hair again - provided that you don't go back in the pool without protecting it.

Have you tried any of the Its a 10 Miracle Products? To me they are AWESOME BUT EXPENSIVE!!! But so worth it!! Also, believe it or not, I had really dry brittle hair and I use the Dove Shampoo & Conditioner for Dry Brittle Hair, it has hair serum in it and it works wonders, and each is like $6 for a huge bottle!! My hair is really thick though, so you may want to try another of the Dove Hair Shampoo/Conditioner just read each one and it will tell you which is best for your hair type!! YOU have to use condition in your hair when its a mess!! And I also use a leave in like the Its a 10 Miracle Leave In!! I use these 3 The Dove Shampoo, Conditioner, & The its a 10 Miracle Leave In and My Hair is super soft, I try not to blow dry though, and shampoo every 3 days. To me the longer I wait to shampoo the better my hair looks, because of the natural oils in your hair. Ya know somedays, you can just go without shampoo and use the conditioner. I hope this helps!! Theres not much more for your self esteem than a great hair day!!

I know how you feel! I do synchronized swimming twice a week, year round. My hair was never soft to begin with, but I'd suggest using swim shampoo. I have Malibu Swimmer's Shampoo- you use a little bit once a week and it cleans all the chlorine out. I love that stuff!
