Hi ladies.

Currently, I have brown hair. (5 Mocha to exact) and my natural color is a dark ash blonde. I really want the extra light blonde look, but any time I go to the salon to lighten my hair back up to this, it ALWAYS pulls yellow and gold! I know my hair is capable of turning out with light blonde hair, even white in some spots, but no one can ever seem to do this for me again. Any tips on what to ask for? I'd like to just start out with highlights and gradually get blonder, too.

Thanks! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Looks like a 3 step process...

1. get hair colour remover to remove your hair dye.  It'll come off as long as its a permanent colour formula

2. get hair lightener (hair bleach).  If your hair is thick, you need extra strength formula

3. get hair dye - the blonde shade you want...like platinum blonde.  I used to do a friend's hair platinum - she had dark brown hair.

Exactly as Divadoll says but with strand tests (save shed hair for this). You can use coconut oil to limit damage to the internal protein structure without blocking the lightening effect of the peroxide. Exercise caution highlighting repeatedly to get to the shade you want because some hair will inevitably end up being bleached multiple times and may end up breaking off, ditto flat ironing.

I have black hair and I use L'oreal Quick blue.  I get the tub from Sally beauty Supply and 40 cream developer.  I used to have a full head of blonde hair (for like 10 years) and nothing works better than that stuff!

It is definitely a step by step process, and the girls here have given some good advice. Yellow and gold tones are a stage you have to deal with when lightening dark hair.

If you have previous hair dye, you'd have to be careful as the bleach will react with the colour and turn it some other colour like green.
