hi. i want to cut my hair off because it is so damaged and i think that is the only way to get it healthy again. i just dont wana be bald. any suggestions on what i should do ? get a wig ? extensions? thanks for any help

Dont have extensions they will ruin your hair! how long is your hair now? have you looked around for a nice short hairstyle. I dont think you need to cut it all of but just cut quite abit of and then make sure you have regular cuts so the remains of the damage get cut off, so it could take a few months for it to get healthy again, because cutting it all of could be a big shock, so i would take it step by step. In the mean time use an intensive conditioner and a hair mask once a week, garnier have brought out a range called repair and shine! avon dry end serum is also good.

Good advice, but be careful not to over condition your hair. Yes this is possible, it will make the hair lifeless, and too much protien is not a good thing. Good luck!

Have you tried having your hair deep conditioned? Also, if you color your hair a lot or use a lot of heating tools you're only further damaging your hair. I used to have severely damaged hair between coloring, relaxing and styling it. As soon as I laid off on coloring my hair, and tried my best to not use heating tools, it started getting healthier. I would try getting a deep conditioner. A good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner should also help (HealthySexyHair is my fave). If you're not already, taking Vitamin E can assist with promoting healthy hair (from what I've always been told), and even prenatal vitamins can help. Make sure you're getting your hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks as well as split ends can definitely make hair look even more damaged than it already is.

My hair is really damaged from coloring and relaxing, but this is my only option at this time. I deep condition it every chance I get, and wear it slicked up in a bun or some other style that minimizes curling or extensive handling for now. I also trimmed my ends by about 2". There are no quick immediate fixes, but it can still look good while you are pampering it back to health..

I'd suggest you buy Joico K-Pak Intense hydrator. Or try using heated olive oil on your hair. Both are awesome moisturizers. Also try some hydrating shampoo and conditioner.

You warm it up; not too much, you don't want to burn yourself

; massage it into your hair, put on a plastic bag and leave it on for about 10 minutes. You can re-heat it (while on your hair) with a blow-dryer. After that you just was your hair as you usually do (with a shampoo, that is).

thanks everyone. i know how damaging blow drying and flat ironing is, but i dont know if i can go without it! my hair is sooo wavy/frizzy and out of control if i just let it go on its own.

This time last year, I cut off 14 inches of hair. I kept it one length, to my jaw.

My hair was dry, damaged, overprocessed - wavy/curly/frizzy.

I also dyed it med brown when I cut it.

I received tons of complements on my new look. My only regret was not doing it sooner.

if its really damage and breaking off i would cut it and start over or you risk damageing the new growth if its splitting since winter is comeing up you can buy a couple cute wigs or even extensions as long as its not to long or heavy and you take breaks with wigs in between yor hair will grow back

Well Cut as much as you can and get layers or ask the stylisy what will make your hair look longer and thicker. Also just take good care of it deep condtion every week. Do not use a harsh shampoo and use a condtioner & shamp that is silicone free so you won't have to use clayrfying shampoo every week. The siliciones block mostiure getting from the hair which weakens the hair increadbly and causes split ends and dry hair. SO stay away from products, just keep your routine simple. And also cut down on the heat as much as possible. If you use no heat at all, your hair will grow faster. Just do it for a couple of months and when your hair grows a certian lenght then maybe use a flatiron or blowdryer, only one. And taking vitamins or hair growth pills would be helpful. The reason I say aviod styling products is because they cause more frizz, just creates more of the problem. Try John Frieda Sheer Blonde Dream Creme Instant Silkener which is siliciones free to manitian the frizz. And just do not use a flat iron.

i would get it cut in layers. use conditiong treatments, let it grow out some and get it cut again. how far up is it damaged?

Paul Mitchell Moisturizing Shampoo has helped smooth out my hair a lot...plus Garnier Deep Conditioning twice a week

I would just get a good trim to take off the dead ends, and then start a moisturizing regimen. There are a lot of products out there, and you can reverse the condition of your hair. See what a "master sylist" would recommend for your hair type. Cutting it off is drastic and unnecessary.

I agree with glamor girl; a drastic cut is unnecessary unless you really want it. I've been where you are, just ask your hairstylist about it. Mine was past my middle back and I got it cut at the shoulders with layers, and I do mayo treatments twice a week. Now my hair is much much healthier.

I just went through this myself. I had my hair BLACK for years. repetitive dying with uber strong dye = years of undoing. i'm almost back to my natural (very dark auburn) color and have been intensively conditioning and getting very regular haircuts. I got l'oreal intense repair. i shower at night, put this stuff through my hair, put on a shower cap, do all my before bed stuff, heat it up with a hair dryer, and sleep on it. shower in the morning as I normally do and my hair is MUCH softer, this helps immensely with dry ends, splitting hairs, etc. I would have lost soo many inches to unnessecary cuts without it.

also, even if your hair IS curly/frizzy/unmanagable.. there are ways around heat styling. there are always braids (depending on hair length) there are clips for shorter hair, there are products that straghten your hair without heat (got2b//bedhead has some, i believe) just try new things... i went through some damn ugly hair phases to get it to where it is (almost the small of my back and HEALTHY hehe)

<3

hope that helps some!

I have heard Vo5 Hair oil is very good for damaged hair. So is Nanoworks Pureology. its pricey but I thought worth it!

Good luck!!!
