curling hair with flat iron.

i have tried this many, many times. i'll get a few good curls, but mostly weird ones that don't work or don't curl.....how do you master this skill?!! i'm getting frustrated. haha. i've watched YouTube videos and i think i understand, but i guess i just can't hold the flat iron right, or keep the hair "settled" and in the iron. can anyone give me some tips?? or is it "practice makes perfect"? when i do get it right, it's so easy and looks great! but i need to make the rest of my head look like it. i want to get the hang of this....

The trick is not to hold the flat iron tightly to your hair. You don't want it loose either but you don't want to hold the iron so tight that the curl looks squarish. Just remember it takes LOTS of practice to get it right. I would recommend getting a heat resistent glove so you don't burn your hand if you want to hold the barrel while making the curl.
