I colored my hair last night at home from my natural color--a very very dark brown to "jet black." I have done this approximately 4-5 times through the years, and it usually comes out great. But this time I have a brown undertone and it is alot lighter than it usually comes out--it looks like the darkest brown you can get BEFORE black. It probably looks better than it usually does--It looks very natural and a deep beautiful brown. But I really like the jet black color I usually get. What happened? I used two 2 oz boxes (since I have ALOT of hair) and mixed with 4 oz. of 10 developer. What should I have done differently? Would a 'blue black' shade give me the black I am looking for? I want to try again in a couple weeks. How long should I wait? Any comments or help appreciated! Thanks!

Maybe you used a dye that has a tendency to be "golden" - a brown under tone resulted.

Did you want to try to remove the dye and start over, or just apply more dye on top?

Have you considered going to a salon and having them give you the colour you want?

In either case, condition your hair a few times before trying to redye.

I think applying an oil like coconut, olive, palm is great for hair.

Saturate your hair with an oil (or combination of oils) wrap hair with plastic, and let soak in for an hour.  Shampoo well - maybe twice to get all the oil out, then condition.

Do you have white hair too? I go as dark black as I can get and I have had white (mixed in with natural near black) hair since I was 16.  As I've gotten more and more grey I've switched over to 20 developer because the little extra lift seems to help it hold to my white and grey hair a little better. My white hair is a lot more resistant to color then my darker hairs.

Changing hair color may somewhat affect the health of your hair badly then. I don't think it's a good idea but at least try to make it more natural in color ..
