Who here epilates?

I agree that ingrowns are highly likely with epilating (waxing was even worse for me) and you have to find an exfoliating routine that works for you - but it's all worth it to enjoy the cheapness and effectiveness of epilating. I regularly use a natural body bristle brush and also a mixture of aspirin and water (acts like Tendskin) to keep the ingrowns at bay :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I was exactly the same - I only tried once/twice and then put it in the drawer for 1-2 years. Then the next time I picked it up I decided to do it more often than every 6 weeks and also sort out the ingrown prob. My skin can cope with pain much better now and it's the best hair removal method I could find - I was useless at using wax strips properly, all that sticky mess! :icon_lol:

I epilate my legs already many years. I think it's the best method (apart from laser) to remove hair and reduce the growth. At the beginning it was horrible but then it started to be less painful. Now I can say it is even not so bed.

With ingrowing hair peeling is the best way to protect u as mentioned above.

Did you get a lot of ingrowns when you first started? And also this mixture of aspirin and water help prevent ingrowns like 100% of fewer percent than this?

Also I don't know if you ladies would like to mention what epilators you are currently using or have used and your opinions on it.

I use just normal peeling (at the moment Avon Brown Sugar) to rub my skin (with small grains) that removes dead cells that have accumulated on skin’s surface, leaving it even and soft. Then it is easier for hair to come through the surface and it protects ingrowns.

I have Braun Silkepil.

I use the emjoi gently gold caress. I do get a lot of ingrowns as I stated above. I wish I had an answer to getting rid of ingrowns, but I don't. Exfoliating has helped me a little but not completely. I like the emjoi for under my arms and bikini line. It is great for that because I only have to do these areas about once a week.

I have a Braun Epilator. Has an ice pack which i find helps lessen the pain. I barely feel anything anymore. I try to exfoliate regularly in the shower with a body scrub to prevent ingrown hairs.

so I'm getting more and more interested in epilating. How much does one cost on average in the US and is there a kind that might hurt less than another or are they all about the same. I think I can make it through the pain if I have smooth legs for a longer time frame. I'm just sooooo sick of taking the time to shave and then still feeling like I have a ton of prickles on my legs two seconds later.

I use a Philips Satinelle sensitive epilator which I bought a few years back. I'm not sure if the new designs really do hurt less or not as I've never switched from this one...probably the best pain reduction method is to keep epilating to desensitise the skin :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I think it's really worth it to get on top of the ingrown problem (try out as many tips from other people as you can until you find one that works) - epilating has been the only way I can achieve real hair-removal without the cost, the mess and without the hair growing back the next day! Hope it works out for you :icon_chee

Have had one for years and it works great.... when I use it. I get lazy and forget to use it and then when I do....ouch!!! It's like I am using it for the first time, but it is great.

My thread got closed so I am re-posting here. I just got the Emjoi OptiMini epilator. It it really small and light so I am pleased with that. I am just worried about the in-growns though.

I want one, but I am afraid I will buy it and use it once b/c of the pain it is rumored to cause.

I want to get the Norelco Satinelle Ice Epilator! It has a detachable cartridge that you put in the freezer, and supposedly it soothes your skin and makes it hurt slightly less when you epilate.

Also, I want to get a Cactus Scrub Mitt from TBS for the exfoliation.

Mine honestly does not hurt at all, surprisingly. Not even the first time I used it. I forget which one I have, I am not at home, so I will post the name in a little bit. I had one a long time ago that was bloody murder, it really hurt. I havent used my new one on my underarms b/c the one I had years ago brought tears to my eyes it was so painful. I havent used my new one for a few months, it does take a long time to do all your legs. I put rubbing alcohol on my epilated areas after using and never had any ingrowns. The manual said to do that. I didnt do it right after, b/c that wouldnt of been pleasant, but a few hours later.

edit: it's the Emjoi Optipro

what are some of the methods you guys use to exfoliate, so as to reduce ingrowns. i have a big problem with ingrowns on the bikini area and lower legs...

Also, i have an epilator from Remington, its small, sleek and easy to grip. I think it was around $40, about 2 years back. I bought if from ULTA.

I've never tried the rubbing alcohol. I might have to check it out. I have some in my medicine cabinet.
