I am a warm skin toned gal and have always done reds, auburns, warm browns. But until recently, I thought it actually clashes a little especially with my tan getting darker. So what do you think, how do match skintones with hair color?

cool skin - cool hair

cool skin - neutral hair

cool skin - warm hair

etc?

Love to hear your thoughts

I think that the most flattering look is matching the tone of the skin to the tone of the hair: warm toned skin to warm toned hair.

Maybe what's happening is that the reds, auburns and warm browns appear brassy. And so they aren't flattering.

I have a warm tone and had my hair auburn for years. A couple of years ago, I switched to a medium golden brown and I find that it suits me much better.

Hope this helps

Its just that I once saw a girl with very olive skintone and she had dark red hair and it reminded me of younger days when i would dye my hair red after red, it did not look good on her and I was probably the same skintone as her. I've always dyed mine warm as I said, and recently I dyed it a light warm brown and at first it was scary to look in the mirror because my roots were lighter and it definately made my oliveness show up even more. But after some dark roots came back in, I thought the color looked really nice. So I'm just gonna try a neutral color for once, it can't hurt neutrals are suppose to work equally fine for cool and warm skintones.

I agree that nuetrals can look great on both cool and warm tones.

I was thinking that folks with an olive tone complexion can look good with gold tones.

When dying, there is a fine line between red and gold.

If you dye your hair a neutral colour and you have any natural red/gold tones, they will show through, but be much subtler.

I would say everyone has a different opinion on what looks best on a woman.

Personally, I'm more of a "stick-with-a-more-natural-approach" kind of gal. I would never venture into the blonde ranges because I highly doubt it's something I can pull off. Also being that I'm of Asian decent and also because I'm not bold when it comes to experimenting with different hair colors.

My skin normally appears medium complexion with olive undertones, let's just say I look somewhere in between tan and neutral. I tend to stick with darker shades such as my natural color (dark dark brown), a natural black, or darker brown tones. I have dyed my hair jet black as well, because again I'm into that dark and mysterious look that others have told me they find most suitable on a person like myself.

But you see, that's just my personal take on it. Of course I see others in a different viewpoint, so I would suggest differently. With that said I think most people with warm skin look beautiful with shades of browns, honeys, golds and cooper, and most of the time red shades. If you are beginning to feel that it's in fact warming your complexion a little too much for your liking you might want to stick with hair color that is multi-tonal as opposed to a single color all over. For example I find a darker brown color compliments soft honey highlights very beautifully. I'm not sure how else I can say it but I'll provide some pics to give you a few ideas.
