What companies have you gotten samples from?

We just moved to another town and now the closest L'Occitane boutique is over an hour away! That's the whole reason why I even emailed them for perfume samples in the first place, I would normally just stop by and smell them all.

It took ada over a week to tell me no.  Perfekt was a couple hours on Friday.  I heard from L'occitane and Juice Beauty within 5 minutes today.

Asked me about my skin concerns and then are sending me some stuff. They responded quick each time, and thanked me for my thank you! Definitely a company I'm very interested in doing business with now. 

Lenor Greyl said no. Sabon was very pleasant and is sending some.

I'm excited for theirs too!

A lot of these companies customer service is so kind. I love finding companies this way.

Definitely a company I'm very interested in doing business with now.  Lenor Greyl said no. Sabon was very pleasant and is sending some. I'm excited for theirs too! A lot of these companies customer service is so kind. I love finding companies this way. 

odd how the companies are with these requests, just yesterday lenor greyl said the would be glad to send samples...sabon never answered me..someone on the firs page got a huge sample haul from nerostat (I think that's it something like that lol) and that comapny never got back to me either.

Yeah, I read that some people were given samples from them. I just figure win some, lose some. 

I haven't received a response from TONS of companies, either. I just hope that they're backed up and I'll get them sooner or later. 

I think I messaged Sabon on Friday if that helps and I got a response asking for my address yesterday. So a couple days- not sure what days they're in office, either. 

Really excited for Sabon's. Whish and Sabon were the two I wanted in my Birchbox and naturally I didn't receive either so this makes it a little less painful.

I agree with the way they respond making me want to buy/not to buy their products.  After Shea Terra sent me an e-mail offering samples, giving recommendations, and a coupon code I immediately make a purchase.  Julique has been great, as well as Juice Beauty.

Some things to bear in mind when writing a sample request letter (beauty or otherwise):

1. Don't mention that you heard they DO send samples unless you are referring to a specific offer they've made.

2. Corollary to 1: Don't mention MUT, Birchbox, etc., as many companies will presume you're just hunting for freebies if you mention them.

3. "How can I obtain samples of your products?" often works better than "Can you send me a sample?" because if they do not send out samples, they may alert you to an upcoming promotion.

4. Phrase the request in a way that indicates some familiarity with their brand, even if it's not the specific item that you're hoping to get.

5. If you are a blogger and choose to include that information in your email/letter, then back it up with some specific data (such as how many active readers you have, and their demographics, if known...do this only if you genuinely have an audience and plan on reviewing the item)

6. If you have a specific allergy, mention it: better to do so and have a company turn you down than to have them send you something that gives you a reaction.

7. Allude to your potential purchase, rather than just saying, "I want to try this." 

8. Make sure that it doesn't SOUND like a form letter that you are sending; personalize!
