Thanks @, this helps!  I wondered what people have said that have gotten good responses.  I did get some yesses today, some no's and a lot of no replies.  I guess now I see what comes and keep going down the list!  I will try back on some of the no's down the road!

With that said, if anyone has gotten a particularly good response, any insight as to what you said in your email or phone call would be great!

I normally get a good response by mentioning these things

There are no counters in my area or resellers of any kind for that brand. (And make sure there are none first.) or you prefer to online shop because of the anxiety of retail and the pushiness of counters, whichever is fine if it is true. I find that the first works better though, but sometimes there are counters in your area.

If you have a specific product in mind you really wanna try do this: Say you really like the looks of the product but the reviews are a little bit mixed, therefore to try the product would make it or break it for you. That is the point of a sample, to tip you off to buy it. In this case make sure to mention 3-4 different types of products that you would like to try so that if they don't have that exact sample, they may have another. Typically they have samples of cleansers and moisturizers and more basic products.

If you don't have a specific product in mind always remember your skin type. If it's an organic or natural brand, make note that you like those sorts of things in your letter. If you have sensitive skin, make note of that. It's important to be honest about what you like in the company because truthfully flatter gets most people anywhere as long as it's not overbearing.

Always, always, always thank the person for their time and services and say you understand if they don't have samples but you just couldn't help to ask because some of the products looked really, really intriguing. People in retail that work with customers have hard jobs, realizing that and being easy-going with them (as long as their side is not being rude) really helps.

Perfekt replied but simply told me that I could go to Ulta or get samples if I order from their site. I really wanted to try before I buy :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
Same goes for you, how far away is the Ulta in your area? Do you go by it or is it out of your way? Does it even stock Perfekt as mine doesn't? I didn't even get a response from them so at least you made it farther than me.

I wrote about a paragraph telling them a little about myself..that I am a single mom and a full-time college student and looking to revamp my skincare and beauty regimen. I have gotten a lot of replies...some no's and some yes. The main reason they say no is if they just don't simply have a sample program. I haven't gotten a single rude response from anyone. Be sure to be professional and courteous in your emails and always always always thank them for their time. If someone sends back a response, I reply with a thank you again and then also when I have received the samples. I'll list the names of everyone that's said yes shortly. Just remember, companies want to sell their products to you and the more interested and courteous you are, the more they are willing to let you try them.

Thank you for sharing!

I am curious if companies always send emails confirming the sending of samples? Are there companies that sent samples without first sending an email confirmation?

I have heard back from several companies; some yes and some no. However, there are many I have never heard back from.

I've had companies contact me a month after I contacted them, I've had companies not respond and just send things (if I added my address into it), it's different depending on the company you are contacting.

I'm INterested in what you received from zoya (if you have)

I love the brand and would like to try other colors.

I got a no from Zoya, but they are having a BOGO sale on summer colors. I have gotten quite a few yeses, mostly from the list. I just received my first envelope...Jane Iredale mascara, eyelash primer, and a couple of lipstick swatches.

So this week I have been absoulutely speechless with the geneorisity f some of these companies! I have been writing a blog, that was in part, inspired by this thread. With all these companies sharing so many products with us, I thought I could at least write them a review! This has contributed the income of samples, and also to the AMAZING fullsized prducts I now have coming in! Murala sent me 4 sample vials of Murula facial oil, 4 cleansing lotions, a trazel sized rollier oil, and i was stunned to find a $78.00 bottle of Murala Oil from the Leaky collection!!!! If any of you have tried Original Sporot's wonderful samples packs, you'll know that stuff rocks! So i told them how much I loved it and how I would like to try for an extended period of time, if just two days had such a great effect on my hair. yesterday I found a huge box from Original Sprout wth the 8oz bottles ($20.00 each) of The Tahitian Luxury shampoo and conditioner!! Nailtiques also sent me full sized products including the Protien formula 2, Protein nail lacquer in Rio, and a 4oz. Hamd conditioner (about $50.00 for all) and let me tell you Nailtiques is probably the best system I have ever used, it's insanely fast and looks flawless! I would seriously consider investing a little of your time in writing them a nice letter to them asking to sample if you have not tried thier products yet! I am also super stoked about Monave Cosmetics! They are sending me a few samples of minetal foundation, to determine the shade of foundation I will chose in a full sized product and they are sending eyeshadows, and full sized bronzers for my review! Whew, what a week!

You email these companies?  How do you know where to email them?  On their web pages?

Yes, you email them from their company website and ask politely for samples. There are many, many, many lists in this tread of companies you can email!

Honey, your just getting started. At my best I had packages all week: 9, 14, 6, 10, 3, and 6. That's the number of packages I got every day for a week in early august, it was so crazy I put out Facebook posts on it.

Then again I decided to look through this entire thread, collect all the companies together and I took all day emailing every single one with a base letter.

I want to email nailtiques but I can't find their email. I have a couple packages coming in, one which is Aneley cosmetics which is sending me a package with three day shipping. I won't get it until Monday though. Starnail is sending me things. Paco Rabbene is sending me male cologne, (they have female too but I'm experimenting with perfumes/colognes. If there are any you guys really don't like I'd be willing to switch for other samples with you!! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> ) Uhm, man, Blum Naturals, Tammy Fender, Nordic Care, Shibu beauty, I'm thinking about emailing some more companies but it's almost like I've run out of ones to contact. I should have kept track of everyone I contacted really! I'm thinking maybe I should make another "master" list

In the last day I wrote to 164 companies asking for samples .   Laface and Jane Irdele already have packages on there way to me.  Lovely people  to communicate with. Moody sister wrote back directing me to buy samples.  I will let you guys know if anything happens with the others. I got names of companies from this tread and also used the names of companies that give samples to birchbox. This is fun and exciting hope something actually happens  :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Update on my August 3 post.  This has been so much fun and I'm getting to try stuff I would not have picked, but LIKED.  The one company I want to talk about is Jane Iredale -- the first to respond, the samples were accompanied by a really nice, hand signed note thanking me for my interest.  My next serious purchase will be from them for this reason.  So, here is a list of the ones I've received samples from.  Did I mention how much fun this is?? (P.S.  I did explain how I live WAY out in the country.  Don't know if that helped or not.  No one was rude to me about the "no" answers, just that they didn't have samples or didn't have a program.)

Items received from:

Rae ($7 S&H and I didn't like their products except lipstick)

Nest Frangrances - very generous and an insert explaining what was in each one

Studio Gear

L'Occitane

Sisley-Paris - generous quantity of foils

Lalique

NO from:

PerFekt

Jouer

Marc Jacobs

Tarte

Still waiting for responses or samples from some.  I plan to re-send to the ones I really want and of course, send out more requests, thanks to all of you.

I was also blown away by the samples I received from Jane Iredale. Everything was so nicely packaged and the samples themselves were large and reusable. They were super generous. Jane Iredale was a brand I wouldn't have paid much attention to in the past, but their sampling program has made it a brand I'm now very interested in, especially now that I know they're cruelty free and ingredient conscious.
