Yeah Misholly, young children can get it on their faces (unfortunately). However from what I have read on the condition, as the kids get older, the condition slowly gets better, or goes away all together:clap . I'm going to run out and get that cetaphil lotion. Hey! It can't hurt!! Thank You Darlin! Leslie

Leslie,

I hope it works as well for your son as it has for us. Let me know, OK?

Holly

My dermatoligist said that this is a dry skin condition and he reccomended me get Eurcerin lotion. It's availible in drugstore, but it's ratehr expensive.

Kam_621, I tried the eucerin lotion. And honestly, it really didn't do much. I had it on the back of my arms. What I did to beat it, is use a mouisturizing body wash and a loofah sponge in the shower to exfoliate. Than I apply a moisturizing lotion, a cheap one like Jerkins. This worked for me! Good Luck! Leslie

i think i'm going to try the cetaphil lotion...but my roommate also has TONS of eucerin lotion so i may give that a shot first and see what happens; can't make it worse i suppose.

thanks for everyones responses :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Everyone is right. This sounds like keratosis pilaris. In order to get rid of the bumps you should use a beta hydroxy acid product to exfoliate your pores. From what I understand, BHA is oil soluble, so it can actually get deep down into the pore and eventually get rid of these. I use Paula's Choice 2% BHA liquid from http://www.getthatglow.com on my arms every night to get rid of the bumps.

I've been using the alpha hydroxy products from walgreens for about a week now and I have noticed a huge improvement in my daughter skins. and her skin had gotten really bad! This lotion is great and only $5.99.

I wish I would have had MUT back when I was in high school. I had this problem until I was about a junior in college and then it just went away, thankfully! Never even thought it might be something I could "cure" at the time. I just thought that was the way my upper arms were.

The things you learn! :)

I always wondered if it was just tiny ingrown hairs. I get bumps on the upper backs of my arms. I'm a squeezer too so I have a couple itty bitty scars! EEEK! I really appreciate the helpful info Maja!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sams club had 2 tubes of the Olay regenerist self heating face cleanser in a package. I am going to try it on my arms along with the nivea.

My Glamour magazine had a little article on this and they suggested trying Vaseline Intensive Care Healthy Body Complexion Lotion. I have KP and I'm going to try this.

I just use unrefined shea butter and add that to all my lotions. I've not had another case of that since. I used to get it on my lower legs, but not anymore now that I've gotten out of adolescence.

I tried Eucerin Plus Intensive Care and I absolutely hate the feeling it leaves on my skin.. and it doesn't go away or absorb into my skin at all.. its so yucky feeling!!!

Are there any other suggestions as to what I should try instead?

I saw several lotions with "intensive care" and "regenerist" and "healing" on their labels... would they pretty much serve the same purpose?

UGHH I fricken HATE those bumps (keratosis pilaris).

I have seen SO many dermatologists to get rid of them. Products with ALPHA HYDROXY ACIDS are key cuz with keratosis pilaris you dont shed your top layer of dead skin (like everyone else normally does) - - AHA's are chemical exfoliants so when u use them they will "slough" off the bumps caused by dead skin build up.

Right now I am using AmLactin lotion (with 12% lactic acid) on my arms. It is super, super creamy but u can put a TON on (like literally there will be a thick layer of white crap on my arm) & within a couple min my skin will have totally abosrbed it all..

Click here & there are a ton of good products mentioned.. I haven't tried that KP Duty suff cuz it is so expensive, but I wanna try it.

So yeah - glycolic acid, lactic acid - any products with those in them will help most for KP.

OH - This is is a really good article. When I was younger the dermatologists I saw said it was just dry skin - but then I found out what it really was..

OH, wow...I have this! I didn't even know what it was! lol. Mine must be really mild, though...it's not very noticable.

I'm pretty sure my mom has it too, though. So I probably got it from her side of the family...

Thanks for all the info! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

:dito:

Wow! I was so stunned to learn about something I didn't even know I had, lol! AND it explains the little bumps on my scalp too, which I've always wondered about (like MAD, lol), but always thought was its own thing.

Huge paradigm shift for me! And thanks, Maja, for all the really great info!!!!!!!

Yup - I think I read somewhere where it said half of the population has it, it's super common. My mom has it too - it's inherited & that's where I got it from (Damn you Mom.. )
