My hair is naturally dirty dishwater blonde but I've had it dyed or highlighted lighter for most of my life. I recently become bored with just being blonde so I dyed the under section of my hair brown/black. I really like the color of it, but it is a little brassy or golden for me, especially in sunlight. My blonde hair (especially the roots) on top is also really brassy and yellowish. My mother just bought me 100% human hair (clip in extentions) today and I already dyed the pieces I wanted the brown/black to match the bottom sections, however; the pieces she bought me are more ash blonde with highlights in them (not brassy). I know I can dye them to match my hair, but like I said, I don't want them that brassy color.

Could I: Just go and dye my hair ash blonde then put small highlights all over the top? Would it still be brassy? I really don't want blueish gold hair.

Or: Is there a hair care product that I can use all over my head (on both blonde and brown/black) that will take that brassy color away?

If I can do the second option then I'll just lowlight the ash blonde into my hair that way after I've found the perfect tone for my hair. That way I won't have to worry about frying my hair with frosting since it's already really blonde.

If you have any advice please post it here. I don't want to rush into anything and end up having to dye my whole head brown.

If you want a quick fix use Clairol Nice & Easy in Palest Blonde for it is a neutral toned dye I used it on my multi tonal blonde hair and it removed a lot of brassiness. You can bleach out your brassy sections with lemons in the sun and make sure to use a Silver shampoo ( any shampoo with a purple colour made for blonde hair ) Make sure you are using blonde specific hair products I reccomend John Frieda for other products add discolouring deposits to hair. I currently use Pantene's blonde expressions daily colour enhancing shampoo with liquid crystals and it keeps my hair deposit free. After all this make sure to use a leave in conditioner as we blonds damn well need one. John Frieda's sheer blonde healthy attitude is to die for.

I would go get a toner from sallys, i used to use the clairol one in "pallest ash blonde" but there are a ton just make sure it is apurple base to it. i would do that (and you could even add a packet of red out if you wanted it extra ashy) and that should be all you need.

It will not lighten your hair but it will help get the yellow tones out of both the brown parts and the blonde parts.

you could also use a purple color depositing shampoo, some are clairol shimmer lights for blonde or grey hair and aveda's blue malva.

that will help maintain the more cool tone in your hair
