I think it depends on what you want. If you want something natural (that will hurt your hair/scalp less.. in terms of healthiness)? Or something long lasting? Something easy to work with?

Or are you just looking for something that has a name to it and is known around the world, that is high end... expensive?

I guess the best thing to do is define what is best for you.

Best - for me is, something that will keep your hair/scalp healthy and does less damage.

Can any one name a brand like this?

I've only had my hair colored professionally once and they used Matrix. I don't know much about the technical info, but as far as I know Matrix is an excellent brand in coloring and general hair products. We've some some hair experts here. Let's see what they have to say.

My salon uses D'Avines or Rusk, I think, but I'm not sure because I color at home.

Redken, Tigi, Joico

I have tried redken and tigi, very nice and sweet scent. And it works on my lousy hair. I want to try Matrix and Joice coz many good claims about those lines.

Mine uses Redken (Secondary) and Pureology [(sp?) Primary]

Pureology has come out with this nano technology that no one else has. Sounds like it's ahead in technology though, if it has something that no one else has. (afaik)

Lots of salons use a variety of products, and some stylists will specifically use their own products. I recently had my hair relaxed again after almost 8 mths., and the stylist tries to only use Sexy Hair products, which reeled me in even more! However, I can say Biolage, Matrix, and Paul Mitchell are used a lot by numerous salons.
