Does anyone here still use tanning beds? I quit for like 5 years because of all the horror stories about skin damage but recently started back- once a week to a high pressure bed. Is it really that bad? :icon_redf

I'm a huge fan of tanning beds, I use them about once a week for 20minutes i must admit i've cut down alot i used to use them at least 4 times a week

it really is that bad lol but i understand you sort of...

well i have friends that go for tanning beds and the tips of her elbows used to come out white! thats why i never went! i think that is so embarassing.

i usually get a natural tan but if i ever opt for a fake one i try find salons that do that airbrush or spray-on thing. it looks better its healthier and lasts longer. maybe you could look into that?

i would recommend self tanner too but ive never had any success with that its too difficult for me lol! but its also the "healthiest" way to get a tan so maybe its worth learning.

hope i helped at all;)

Me too and thats my problem. I live in a resort area- around here being pale is like a disease or something. I am so torn between my love for tanning and my fear of wrinkles!

Thanks! But I tried Mystic Tan and did not like the color at all. :icon_redf

I know of the dangers and I still go from time to time but not as frequently as I used to. I take lots of antioxidants hoping that helps offset it some.

I haven't been to a tanning bed in over 10 years. I just found that it was harsher than the actual sun. (I'm pale and burn easy) The last time I went I got such a burn on my rump where my undies moved a bit that I couldn't sit down right for over a week. Never ever again. Pasty white I will stay!

I am also pale and if I want some color..I just use a self tanner product ..I have some friends who use a tanning bed freq and their skin is beginning to look weathered.

I would never reccommend a tanning bed to anyone. Not only is it bad in the aspect of getting wrinkles, I heard that tanning beds have quite a lot of UV radation (which can lead to a risk of skin cancer). It'd stick with bottled sun tans or spray on sun tans.

i had like 2 free things for tanning beds. and so in the middle of the winter (this was in SD before i moved) when like the highest the 2 weeks was 5 below, i went to the tanning place to warm up. it worked very nicely and that was about it (i even put sunscreen on before i went in it too).

I go to the stand ups every spring. I dont need to be tanned during the winter, but I tan well in the summer because I love being outside. I find if I go before the sun really starts getting strong, I build a nice base, and dont burn as easily durring the summer.

I use to but I stopped a few years back. Now I use tanning lotion. I have to wonder if even lotions are no good for your skin also.

I used them until I started seeing "smile lines" on my face, they stayed even after I stopped smiling :icon_eek: I was around 26 or 27, that was enough to keep me away, never mind skin cancer.

They are great for eczema and pimply backs though, for that I miss them!

Stay away from them, it isn't worth it. I got a skin melanoma on my chest from high pressure bed. I still have two scars on my chest from them. Try famous daves moisture tan, you can find it on ebay, he also has a site. It tans so pretty and doesn't come off on bras straps or sheets. I used to tan alot, and now that I am in my forties, I wonder if I could have looked younger had I stayed away. I do look young for my age anyway, but just have to think why did I put my skin through that, it never last anyway. The fake tan moisturizes and lasts for about a week. I would apply it about 3 times in a row, to get the color you want.

What about the mystic tan (the spray on tan)? Has anyone tried that and does it work?

This is the one the orange celebrities use *oompa loompa oompa loompa* :icon_chee
