We all want it!! But what's the best way to achieve it? Read on....

There are certain things we do daily that can help add the shine we have all been lacking;

*after rinsing the majority of your conditioner out in luke-warm water, rinse the remainder in cold water. Doing this closes the cuticle and helps make it flat so it can reflect the light better.

* Opt for a ceramic hair dryer and flat iron; when ceramic reaches a certain temperature, it naturally omit's negative ions into your hair, since the hair is positively charged naturally, they neutralize each other and create a healthy looking sheen (among many other benefits to ceramic) After you've finished blow drying your hair, use the cool shot button to seal the style and add more shine.

Some other factors to consider:

Healthy hair shines; damaged, over-processed hair does not. If you colour your hair a blonde shade or are naturally grey, you will find it the most difficult to achieve that healthy looking shine; when there is no pigement or very little pigement left in the hair, the hair will not reflect the light like it will for those of us with darker hair. And since blonde and grey notoriously pick up mineral deposits from your water, it would be a good idea to consider using a violet or blue based shampoo to neutralize some of the brassy tones that will inevitably occur.

If all else fails, you can always use a serum or shine spray to aid you along the way; Just stay away from silicone based products becuase even though they do add shine, they are also hard to wash out of the hair. They often leave a buildup on the hair shaft that over time, can make it look dull.

Shine on ladies!

I'd like to add another point if I may Gina, your diet and lifestyle choices make a HUGE impact on the way your hair/skin looks. Omega 3 is fabulous for your hair (and skin) by that I mean when it's taken internally, I really don't recommend applying fish oil to ones hair lol It gives your hair a nice healthy shiney appearance when you have a lot of Omega 3 in your diet.

great tips girls, I have a multi-V with Omega 3 in it and I always try to blast my hair with cold water at end of shower aswell.

Thanks for the tips!

wow... That's great information guys... but I cheat!! My synthetic wigs are uber-shiny... msybe too shiny! lol

Cool thread!

I agree with all that you guys said, but I have one more! You can use lemon juice or ACV (1tbsp ACV - 2cups H2O) to rinse your hair to remove shampoo build up and stuff, then rinse out with cold water, and you get super shiny hair!! It works on my locs, so I"m positive it'll work on regular hair.

i have strawberry blonde hair, and im always envious of how shiny dark brown hair can be. i like the 'flasher' spray from sally's, and since i do use chi silk infusion to defrizz, i use a clarifying shampoo about every other week to keep the silicone from building up on my hair. works for me !

A dollop of baking soda mixed in your shampoo (in the palm of your hand, not the bottle) can help remove buildup. I usually do this and try to stick as close to the roots and scalp as possible as I'm washing, then let it run down the length when I'm rinsing. Makes my scalp feel great and really removes product residue and buildup. I then use conditioner as always.
