My problem is ulta doesn't have all the brands Sephora has.

This. But if Ulta carried Nars I would be broke.

True, but nordstroms does and they always have free shipping. So I think I am going to go with them and ulta. Still get samples and gifts.

exactly.....i really truly love sephora's brand selection.

True. I've heard such good things about nordstrom and I think they carry most of the higher end brands (nars, ysl etc) that ulta doesn't. If sephora doesn't get it together I am going to start checking nordstrom out. I *think* they have free shipping all the time too

I was asking myself the other day where I should spend my money, Ulta, Nordstrom, Macys or Sephora...   Ulta is out of the question for me b/c of location and the brands they carry.... after giving much thought...  excluding the free dior lipstick today...

my analysis is below:

I spend $150 at Sephora, i get 150 points and i can spend 100 points on some sort of deluxe sample...

if i spend $150 at nordstrom or macy during their gift with purchase, that $150 takes me a lot further..   for instance, Laura Mercier, YSL, Dior, Lancome etc's gift with purchase always have at least 4 deluxe sized items..  and comes with a beauty bag... and nordstrom now has a beauty reward program as well that is free to join, so you can also use the 100 Nordstrom reward to get some sort of deluxe sample....

my conclusion is its best that I spend my money at Nordstrom..  especially for higher end items..   the key is to be patient and wait for the gift with purchase...

so why would i spend money at Sephora?

1) b/c sephora carries Hoursglass (in SF only Barneys carry it), Kat Von D, Stila, Smashbox, Tarte, Urban Decay, Korres, Caudalie, Josie Maran. While Macy's carry them, macys do not offer gift with purchase for these brands nor any beauty reward..  so for those brands, I'd still buy from Sephora...

2) Sephora often get exclusive palette from the cosmetics brand..  for instance Laura Mercier's artist palette is only at Sephora..   so if you want that palette u can only get it at Sephora...

So while I still shop a ton at sephora..  I have now shop more at Nordstrom...    especially during gift with purchase time...

other higher end department often also do semi-annual spend $200+ get a beauty pouch with 10+ samples ...  Barney's love yoruself event is $250 and you get regular sample, deluxe sample and full sized items...   just a matter of waiting it out to see those samples are good samples.. one year I got a full size Kevyn Aucoin blush...  which to me was awesome!

So, given all the debacle with the rouge program, I am no longer a royal customer at sephora...   I

Nordstrom is awesome! I recently brought a face powder that arrived shattered. Their CS sent me a new one via Expedited shipped at no cost and I didn't have to return the shattered face powder.

I've have been tempted to get a Nordstrom card after that experience.

Well, this is charming:

This in addition to Canadians not getting ANY emails whatsoever, and non-Rouge somehow being able to use the codes (as has been reported on Facebook).

i kept trying ROUGEDIOR and it worked for a minute...then it's out of stock again. so maybe we should keep trying? personally though, i don't think it's worth it....

I gave up. At this point I rather buy my own Dior lippie in a shade that I would wear often.

No problem! I was shocked when she told that they would replace it at no charge. I'm not sure how often they do that for customers though.

I know I'm in the minority but I think Sephora goes above and beyond. I also think they sat the standard on what we expect from retailers now and have spoiled us a bit. They were the first ones I knew of that did 3 free samples with every order and it forced a lot of other sites to follow. I also think the VIB program has been great. They could just take your money and give you nothing but I've got some great perks through points! Tote bags, special sets put together from brands for the 500 point rewards, and even a cool umbrella! Every time I order online it's like Christmas! The "It Kits" and other special things they do through the year are awesome! We are so spoiled! I will admit VIB Rouge hasn't been all I'd hoped it would be yet, but it's officially their first year so hopefully it improves! I've also always had wonderful customer service. Something arrives broken? It's fixed, no questions asked. Didn't care for the consistency of something? Return it and try something else! Not to mention the birthday gifts and free samples in the stores. I know I get no where near the service or perks from Ulta. Sure they have that new system where you can get $3 off or something, but I'd rather have a nice deluxe sample than a measly $3 savings. I also forgot about the 20% off events! They also set a standard there. That's a pretty generous discount in the beauty world!

I like Nordstrom. Free shipping, gwp, samples, great customer service and with their credit card you get $20 to use in store for every $1000 you spend. My husband has their card but I don't dare use it then he'd have an idea of how much I spend on makeup!

Don't get me wrong I love me some Sephora and doubt I will ever jump ship, I will not do rouge again but will have multi VIB accounts

I'm finding rouge pretty disappointing thus far. It seems like most of the promos can be redeemed by VIBs as well so other than the free shipping I don't really see the point. I wonder when they'll send out more flash invites and if they would still offer it to a rouge member. I highly doubt I'll bother going for rouge again this year.

Free shipping is nice, but most of my orders will hit $50 so I'd get it anyway. If there is a sample I want to try I will break up an order to get a few, although that really benefits sephora. If I love it I'll buy it and if I don't then they don't have to take a loss on a return.

Hmm, I received the email for the NARS Illuminator. That was probably the last product from all the available codes I would want. Maybe they took brand preference in to consideration because I have shopped the NARS brand pretty consistently for the past couple of years. I would have liked a Dior lipstick, but not in that red color... Not that I even had much if a chance since it was almost instantly sold out ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced a particular phenomenon since joining Rouge. I notice that when I make a small order under $50 that should qualify for free shipping (which for me is usually $25 or $35, well within the spirit if the offer) -- the order tends to get stuck during processing. I don't get a shipping confirmation. Then I either have to email Sephora about it to get it through or it gets cancelled. They have done this to me several times with different explanation, and always to $25 or $35 orders, never $100+ orders. I've never made tiny $1 type orders, always at least $25, and I don't even do that very often because I usually spend more. I'm just wondering if there's an issue with my account or if anyone else has noticed this? Because if they are doing this on purpose to divert around the free shipping they promised us, that's pretty sketchy.

I placed 2 orders the other day - one for 46.00 and one for 4.00 - both of them shipped out the same day I ordered them

I think it really depends on what you are ordering - perhaps some items take longer to pull and pack.

I've never had an order get stuck, or cancelled before or after being Rouge. *knocks wood*

I do notice that before Rouge was created, and I was always VIB, that online orders took between 1-3 days to get processed, packed, and shipped out.  Now since being Rouge my online orders tend to take 2-4 days before they get shipped (usually).  Especially if it is a sale item or hazmat item.  The dollar amount of the order had no correlation to the time-they've been all over the place.  I've placed one or two 3$ orders in the past, and a few 5-10$ orders (just placed a 5$ one the other day actually, lol, for a sale eyeliner I really wanted and still had a day until payday to place a bigger order.  Ninety-eight percent of my orders are in the 35-150$ range, and I place a lot of orders.  I typically shop in waves.. some weeks nothing, and then a bunch within a week or two.

I personally feel that since Flash shipping started, that  everybody else's orders took a back seat (and even then Flash isn't always shipped right).  I've also noticed that orders I've placed at the end of the week (thurs-weekend) tend to be the ones that take longer to get shipped.
