Hey everyone!

I'm pretty bored with my hair so I'm thinking of using a semi-permanent dye just to spice things up. The problem is I have no idea what brand to buy or really what to do. Any suggestions? I'd really like to dye it more of an auburn color which I didn't think would be too hard to do.

Thanks!

semi perm colour doesn't really last all that long, but it's gentle so it doesn't damage the hair.

You can expect permanent colour to fade out within about 6-8 weeks, although the colour will still be in the hair.

I personally prefer permanent, and I've used quite a few brands but most recently I've tried Country colours and Soft colours. Both of these brands are really nice.

Basically the instructions are really plain, and very easy to follow. You leave the stuff in for about 20 minutes usually, and then just wash your hair until the water runs clear.

With darker hair like yours, it wont' be too difficult at all. The difficulty is things like dying lighter, which can have really bad results.

If you want auburn or reddish highlights try something like 'mahogany' or chestnut. They usually organise colours in varying shades of blonde, through brown, red and black in the store, so you will easily be able to see which colours are reddish

Like Rosie said, it looks like your hair is dark so you should have no problems. If you have already colored or lightened your hair sometimes the temps stick to the already dyed part much longer than the natural hair. Had a fiasco in high school when I did that one. Let's just say I had flaming pink flamingo tips on the ends of my hair haha.

i used to use semi permanent hairdye all the time to keep my hair dark brown (back when i was a goth lol) and i used l'oreal casting which always worked really well for me.

Ahh Thank you girls so much!

I wanted to use semi-permanent first to make sure I like the color. I figure if I pick a bad shade or screw it up it will wash out after a month or so.. no biggie then! I have never dyed my hair though.I had it highlighted professionally a couple years ago, but I'm a real newbie at all this.

I know a girl who had a complete dye fiasco too though Dalylah. She tried to do blonde over black and ended up with blonde roots and what appeared to be a blonde hat over black hair!

lol! I think most dye fiascos are the result of trying to lighten hair, not darken it, so you should be right

My fiasco: I had lightened mine and then I was letting it grow out. My natural hair is a light medium brown and I was attempting to color wash it a plum color. Well the brown part turned out lovely. It darkened it and make it this awesome super shiny burgundy but the tips where there was about 1 inch of blond left it turned BRIGHT pink. At first I was upset but then I got used to it. I left it like that for a couple of weeks just to be funny. Ya Imma dork

lol it doesnt sound too bad! if worse came to worstand you absolutely hated it, at least you could have had a trim and cut it off I guess...

I've used Natural instincts and love it. Makes my hair feel great and it fades enough for you to not have any roots.
