So I always straighten my hair. It's the only thing I can really do with my hair.

I've recently gotten into scrunching it for the summer. The only problem I have is after about 4 hours the curl/scrunch dies down/falls out. It doesn't look as nice.

What products can I add to my hair to make sure it doesn't die down/fall out?

The products I'm currently using are a gel and some mousse. I also use a gel and cream twist thing from Sun Silk sometimes. I don't usually use specific products, just whatever I have in the house.

first a question how are you scrunching?

do you brush your hair after you get out of the shower yes or no?

I find that a lot of times the technique is more important than the products. I would love to hear what you are doing now and than i can maybe help with some tips.

I usually do it the exact same way but I've tried it two ways.
The first way:

Get out of shower

Wrap hair in towel and leave for 2 minutes

Take hair out and scrunch up with fingers lightly

Add mousse and gel and scrunch (Usually I do mousse and scrunch and then gel and scrunch)

Then I spray my hair with some spray wax type stuff

After that I spray with hair spray and take little sections and scrunch them into little buns and secure them and let it dry that way

I just looked really weird with the little balls all over the top of my head and it didn't hold all that well. Plus I had some creases in my hair from the elastics. BTW I followed this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLHcVeyd530 for the first one. I love the way her hair looks in that video. My hair didn't turn out that way though.

The second way I tried today was just using gel and mousse to scrunch my hair and then defusing it with my defuser. It looked pretty good when it was dry but it fell out pretty quickly.

The thing I've realized is I have to actually dry my hair myself or put it up somehow in a crazy way to get the curls/scrunching to stay for a bit.

I would love a quick and easy way to just scrunch it and go. My sister has curlyish hair and only has to put gel and mousse in it and go and it looks amazing all the time. My hair isn't curly. It's more wavy but not the type of wavy I can actually wear naturally.

I've watched videos on youtube where people like do all this crazy stuff. I watched one where a girl like put pants on her head to secure her hair and slept overnight. Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eCNgwK5h9k I just want something I can do in like 5 minutes and just go.

Okay, so here are my thoughts that may help (cause i also have wavy hair but typically the waves are really lose)

So my hair is typically like this if i just brush it when i get out of the shower:

I have two diffrent curly hair routines that might help you (the second one may be better for you but we will get to that)

The first method makes my hair look like this

I start by just shampooing at the roots with either a moisturizing or curling shampoo (curly hair needs moisture to make it stay - i am currently using It's a ten shampoo)

Additionally i typically use a volumizing shampoo on the ends of my hair (i have thin hair so use a conditioner suitable for your hair type - i am currently using charles worthingtons making waves conditioner)

I than put my hair up in one of those towel turbans to dry it a little bit. Once i do that i take it down spray a bit of light weight leave in conditioner and brush it out (i am currently using MOP pear detangler)

Than i take either a curling creme or balm rub it between my hands to warm it up a bit and scrunch it through my hair with my head flipped over ( i am currently using KMS curl creme, however i have used drug store stuff such as garnier, i would avoid gels cause i find they weigh my hair down and pull out the curls)

i than gently flip my hair back to right side up and scrunch the roots with whatever product is left on my hands.

The final thing i do is spray my hair with a few sprays of a curling or waving spray (i would not use hair spray or anything with alcohol because htat could dry out your hair which will make it harder to curl. i currently use Fredrick fakkai beach waves spray)

Now for the other option (i use all the same products i just prep my hair slightly diffrently)

and my hair ends up like this, though i had slept on it before i took this picture

I typically do not shampoo my hair when i want my hair to be very curly and i usually do this the day after i have done the previous method of curling my hair. On these days i do a Conditioner only cleansing. Basicly just using conditioner and masaging your scalp to lossen the dirt and grime (i suggest a board search if you are interested in learning more).

While i am still in the shower after i have rinsed out the conditioner i i keep my hair under the water from the shower head and part it where i want my part (just using my fingers) and do some preliminary scrunching of my hair (i dont flip my hair upside down though cause i dont want water up my nose)

After i have done that i use a towel over my hand and scrunch as i would if i was applying a product but i do not add any product yet. This just helps keep the curls i started to form while i was in the shower. (i typically flip my head over for this part) Once i have scrunched my hair to dry it slightly with the towel, i do spray my hair with the leave in conditioner but rather than combing it through, i scrunch it in. After that i do everything the same as i do with the other method of curling my hair. Namely the curling creme which i scrunch in and than finishing with a curl spray.

that being said, the products that work for me may not work for you (since i have been spending the last 8 years figuring out what works for me) i typically find things that do not make my hair "crunchy" or "stiff" tend to work better for me, so that may be helpful for you.

My hair is somewhat like yours. My front pieces right near my face tend to be more wavy/curly and the rest just frizzes up.
I feel like if I brush my hair it'll loose it's curl. I'll probably try your second method. I don't wanna spend alot of money on products I won't use. I already have a ton of products I don't even use.

I wanna try the tousle me softly line from herbal essence. I know there's a mousse, some hairspray(not in aerosol form), some like cream or whatever in a little container, some spray gel I know from watching youtube videos the cream is supposed to eliminate frizz and fly aways.

I'm just very skeptical because if I try something and it doesn't work then I have no use for it and it goes to waste.

Thanks for your help though!

thats understandable,

I would suggest trying it with products that you already have (even if lets say you have a gel but no curling spray for example) because if the method is something that will work for you, than even if your products are not ideal it should be an improvement in the hold of your curls.

I know it seems silly but i also suggest avoiding the diffuser. I find that it always just made my hair really frizzy and pulled the curls out. And i wouldnt be suprised if the back of your hair ended up being curlier with this method. I have very lose waves in the front, and just what i like to call "cotton candy" hair in the back (think fine and frizzy) but when i do the second method my hair ends up being VERY curly in the back

I'll try the technique. What I do with the diffuser is put it at the bottom of a section if hair and push all the hair up using the diffuser and hold it to my head. It made my hair just as curlier, and a little bit frizzy.
I basically just used the diffuser like I would be scrunching my hair with my hands, it just dried my hair.
