Hi:

what are your favorite shampoos and conditioners?

I have heard you should save on shampoos, but splurge on conditioners. Is this true? Can I use cheap old Herbal Essences or L'Oreal Vive, and spend on Nexxus or Fekkai conditioner?

I have long hair, past my shoulders, oily roots. Thanks in advance for your help!

Oooh - also, I wanted to ask what everyone does about oily roots. If I don't wash my hair everyday, the next day my roots look gross and you can tell my hair is greasy. But, i have long hair and I don't want to damage it, but it takes forever to dry unless I blow dry. Any suggestions?

I must say that Herbal Essences is a crappy shampoo and conditioner, IMO. It makes your hair all snarly. I just use high end brand shampoo and conditioner. I go to Ulta and buy them when they have the Liter sale.

My hair is the same as you described... I use Matrix Sleek.Look Shampoo and Conditioner... it works WONDERFUL! When my bottles are up I switch to Redken All Soft... If you really have oily roots I would make sure when you condition your hair, to pay attention to the ends... don't really put it on your roots.. Shampoo is to focus on your roots and conditioner isn't really supposed to be put on your scalp. It's more for the ends. I always switch brands (Matrix & Redken) Because my hair will get used to the shampoo/conditioner by the time the bottle is done so I just switch back and forth. It took me a while to find a combination that best suits my hair.. If you don't want to spend that much on them then try Pantene Smooth & Sleek.

I like TIGI Dumb Blonde shampoo and conditioner (for highlighted hair and such.) And some may disagree, but i do like the new Herbal Essences line they came out with. It works for my curly hair.

I rotate my shampoos/conditioners sometimes using highend/ sometimes low end. And I too like Herbal Essence conditioner for color treated hair. My hair comes out really light and clean with I use it.

i would stick to drug store brand shampoos and conditioners i find that the salon ones dont work any better i like the new herbal essence the break over one is great i found that nexxus weighs down ur hair to much and loreal i didnt really care for try the cheap ones first

i used to use de lorenzo hair care products, that was at 15-20 bucks a bottle, it did wonders for my hair, and i also have the same prob with u!!!! Liek wat someone else had sais pay close attention to the ends not the roots when conditioning, but now i hve to stick with a particular shampoo and conditioner due to having dandruff, i uses Head and shoulders twice a week and i use the expensive stuff once a week, unless im going out that weekend.

i used to use drug store shampoo/conditioner but they never got my hair cleaned (i have a very oily scalp and very dry ends).

i then started using paul mitchell stuff and it all was and still is under control.

styling products im not to picky on.

i usually go to ulta and get stuff when i have a coupon, or whatever hair salon has a sale on theyre stuff (which for some reason here tends to be often with paul mitchell stuff).

You can try applying conditioner to the length of your hair from the ears down before you shampoo your scalp. This would prevent the shampoo from drying out the bulk of your hair. Or you can also dilute your shampoo in a little water to avoid using as much. I find this actually works just as well as straight shampoo although it might take a bit of getting used to at first. I have very long hair and I use very little shampoo but a lot of conditioner. I use both drugstore conditioner like VO5 but I'll splurge on heavier conditioners for deep treatment purposes.

I only condition the ends of my hair.. otherwise it gets greasy too quickly

Rule of thumb - for dry hair, splurge, for oily hair, save... for both - get a treatment!

Dry hair needs a lot more loving - go for a brand like PPS - their Silk Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner are great...

Oily hair generally needs cleaning at the roots, but still needs moisture to the ends... moderately priced brands worked well for me, such as Pantene (but I would still buy PPS in bulk)

All hair types need a weekly treatment, I would splurge on that also!! Kerastase products come to mind...

I normally go for salon products sold in certain drugstores or stores such as Target. There's not a huge difference in value as opposed to getting the salon products at an actual salon, but hey if you can save two or three dollars then I think that's good! (That money adds up after time, plus it's more convenient)

However I do also go to specialty beauty supply stores such as Trade Secret, Avon, or a salon to purchase my hair products. (But I'm trying hard to resist, lol)

Can't forget Sally's. haha.

I def splurge on both. My hais always looks and feels nicer then. My favs are Redken, KMS and this TBS shampoo. I think its the ginger one. Im just waiting on my Bumble&Bunble to arrive though. Looking forward to trying that brand.
