Can anyone here tell me why the red hair dyes I get from Canada and overseas are so much better and have more product than the ones avaiable here in the US? I have found that those reds I'm using seem to last longer and don't futz up my hair like the reds you can get here.

I would love to know what brands you use. The reds in the USA fade so quickly!!

I use Schwartzkoff (sp?) Catwalk---get it from eBay.

Canada! I was up in the Ottawa area a couple of weeks back and would return in a heartbeat.

Personally, I've used the reds/burgundies from the Garnier Nurtisse line and they were pretty decent. Like all reds though, they do fade in a few weeks. If you want permanent [and I mean permanent!] red, then henna is what you want. It's a natural colour made from the henna plant and it stains your hair red. With repeated applications the colour usually gets deeper and richer, and it doesn't fade much at all. It's a lot more involved process than a boxed chemical hair dye, though... you have to leave it on you hair for like 4-6 hours. And your hair will be RED until it grows out... so you have to really love red to go for henna. Haha. This is a great website if you want to check it out: Henna for Hair ~ The art, science, history and traditions of dyeing your hair with henna, indigo and other herbs.

I plan on using henna eventually, as I absolutely adore red hair.
