Ok, I want to do a hair design program, BUT.... I don't want to learn just the traditional stuff. I want to learn cutting edge techniques with color and style like in this video. Does anyone know of the best schools in the US -- hope fully in California because I live in the OC?

the top of the line school is aveda...

however you will not learn anything super out there in any cosmotology school that will come with working in a salon and advanced classes

There is the Paul Mitchells school in Costa Mesa. They are supposed to be all about technique. I think its about 17,000 for a two years but you might want to do the research in that too.

okay i looked at the aveda institute website, and aveda institute is in san fransisco...

so wherever you decided to go i would sugest looking for somehwere that has an advanced academy, just cause you will get a discount on there advanced acadamy.

aveda's advanced academy is in NYC, and i looked at the paul mitchel site, they are a new-er school. so i dont know how good they are but they also have an advanced academy.

Paul Mitchell in Costa Mesa is really close, but I would hope to go lower than $17,000. Although, it's all about the quality of education. I requested an information packet from Aveda.

I will keep the "advanced academy" in mind while I continue to research. Thanks for all of your help.

i am not sure if aveda is the same price as the aveda in NYC but here it is 15,000.

i know comparable to aveda is cartsen but i looked it up and htey only have two institutes, nyc and arizona.

so i am going to look what is in california so i can tell you what is good and what is okay ect.

also i dont know if this matters to you but just so you know,

any one who gets there liscence in alaska is given there liscence in cali.

and since cali's is 2100 hours and alaskas is only 1600 hours you may want to consider that.

also i know in my school (i am currently an aveda student in NYC) there are a lot of people who are from california who plan to go back to cali after the 1600 hours and work as an assitant to complete the rest of there hours

I can't make up my mind! I'm leaning towards school in New York because the salons there are known for style. I need to do more research, but thanks SO MUCH for all of the information.
