Hey girls...I have a question. I just dyed my hair with the semi permanent Clairol Natural Instincts. I really love the color and want to do everything I can to keep it looking great. The box says it washes out in 28 shampoos, so if I wash my hair every day it will be gone in a month! My question is...can I dye my hair every month because it is semi permament or will it damage my hair?

Semi permanents do not lift color from your hair, they only deposits color. It's perfectly safe to use on a regular basis.

It wont damage your hair if you color it with the semi permanent dye once a month or every 6 weeks. But keep in mind that hair color does build up on your hair, even semi permanent hair color. So if you apply it before it really starts to fade noticeably, it will become darker, especially on the ends. Allowing the color to fade will ensure proper distribution along the hair shaft. Also, I would like to add, if you ever wanted to get highlights or go lighter, after you have continued to color your hair every month, it will be hard to go lighter because the color molecules are resting nicely on the hair follicle which even with bleach can be difficult to break through. So I would suggest let your hair color fade and then color each time. Also, if your hair seems porous or dry, be sure to color your roots first and then apply to the midshaft and ends for the last 10 mins or so. This will help with hot Roots. Which hot roots is when your roots look lighter than your ends. Because the ends of your hair are porous, they are going to suck up that color and keep it locked in so it appears to be darker. I hope this makes sense

Wow...thanks guys! It's nice to know that I won't be damaging my hair. My hair is normally a dark brown and I found the black color I love. When I dyed it, I only left the dye on for 15 minutes and it looks great. It's funny because when I go to the hair salon they leave the dye on for 45 minutes it seems! Oh well...talk about cheaper! 8 bucks versus 100 at the salon!
