The problem with applying anything to seal the hair before a treatment, is that the treatment, bleach or whatever will not be able to penetrate the hair cuticle and do it's job.
However my hair dresser advised me before bleaching my hair not to wash it for a while, the dirtier the better was what she said and so before bleaching my hair, I always leave it at least a week without washing, giving the scalps natural protective oils time to work their way thorugh the hair.
Another tip that I always mention, is actually an after treatment, but as someone who has to redo my bleach weekly, I can vouch for its effectiveness, that is kerastase cimente thermique. Applied to towel dried hair and activated by heat such as blow drying, it strengthens the hair after any treatment and as it is activated by heat, it is a bonus if you like using heated tongs to style but are afraid of the damage you are doing.
