Sounds like this line is really geared toward African American hair though. Not sure that it would work well for me?

black woman are not the only ones that use it tho.............when i first came to this site there were a lot of girls..........im sorry i mean ladies lol.............. that used this product that werent african american......

CassBH, you will love this:

I use White Rain Shampoo, extra body $2 at drug stores. 15.2 oz shampoo has no added colouring. This will absolutely not cause any build up, cleans really well, does not irritate scalp. I read Paula Begoun's latest hair book and this product was well recommended from her.

Hmmm... you may want to consider getting a good clarifier (I hear the Kenra Clarifying shampoo is "really" good) and just use it 1-2x/week, and use a styling product in it that has cones in it so you won't be miserable.

Some d/s shampoos that I have looked at, and appeared to be cone-free, are:

Dove Cool Moisture

Dove Beautifully Clean

I see nothing in these shampoos that would fade color.

D/s conditioners are a little harder to recommend. I know the VO5 and Suave Naturals are cone-free, and that the Tresemme Cond.'s are "low in cones." If you look at the ingredient listing, you will see it is down at the bottom instead of at the top.

The only thing is, you may feel these are not moisturizing enough for your hair. At least they are cheap options to test drive.

Really??? I love Paula Begoun, so maybe I will check that out! How does the conditioner rate?

Cool! Good advice and some good recommendations, thanks! How's the cone free going for you?

Well I will definintely check this out tomorrow when I go to CVS then...thanks!

For me, it goes well, but that is b/c cones tend to weigh my hair down so much. I can get away with using a styling product with cones, but if I used a s&c with cones, it was too much.

PS Creme of Nature is loaded with cones, IIRC.

I was thinking it might be! Yeah, me too with the cones. I am trying to keep them out of my s/c but be ok with having them in my styling stuff.

CassBH, a few things I have saved from Paula this past year:

If your hair is thick and coarse, or chemically treated and damaged (which is really the same thing-chemically treated hair is always damaged), you may want to add moisturizing ingredients to your conditioner. Take your regular conditioner and mix in a drop of Citre Shine Miracle Laminator, a silicone serum, and a drop of safflower oil. Rub this into the ends of your hair and not the roots--unless you have a dry scalp or very full hair you're trying to control--and let the mixture soak in for a while. Depending on your hair type, you can either wash this mixture out or just rinse it off.

Best conditioners for dry to very dry hair that is normal to thick or coarse

I use Jason Shampoo and conditioner. I really like it! I would also like to know where I can get Pantene Ice I have looked in all the Drugstores in my town and the surrounding counties. No Luck! :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

try the dove shampoo/conditoner/hair mask thats meant for colored hair. i use the one that for lightened/highlighted hair. and it really moisturises my hair w/o weighing it down.

If your hair color treated and dry, you may actually benefit from using cones as they will seal the hair cutice, which will keep in moisture and prevent the color from fading. I personally have a lot of success with the John Freida Brilliant Brunette and Radient Red lines.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions! There are so many choices out there, it is overwhelming!

I am excited to be picking up one of the styling products today that Janelle loves and uses (HSH Straightening Tonic). I had to order it special, as no one in my area seemed to carry it!

I am going to go to CVS today and check out all your rec's...I'll let you know what I end up with :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
