I just don't get it.

I have long, thick hair and I wanted it a bit more piecey. Someone told me that I can keep my hair the way it is and just use pomade.

However, I tried, and now I'm a sticky gooey mess.

Any tips?

Same here. I was told this stuff helps make your hair stay straighter. But I was left washing my hair because it just felt gross. :/

i always thought pomade works best for short, choppy cuts..rather than long thick hair. {dirty hair is always piecier}

I rub pomade on my hair and braid it overnight. that way it sculpts it and gives it those waves i so love.

Me too, but my hair is layered and the top layer is kinda supposed to be choppy.

I think that your hair texture and length makes a huge difference in how well pomade works on your hair. If your hair is coarse or really dry it seems to work better.

I've never been a fan of pomade, but I completely agree with what Kristen said!

I love the Aveda anti-humectant pomade. My hair is really thick, frizzy, curly, out-of-control, and I either wear it up, or straighten it. I think the trick with pomade is to either flip your hair over or just lightly hit it from underneath so you don't get a greasy look up top...

Maybe a mousse or hair holding spray for you, but not pomade! Traditionally that is used on Black hair due to the texture difference. I use pomades and curl wax with reckless abandon. It looks great for a ponytail or updo.

Pomade is very greasy so unless u kno how much to put it EXACTLY wont help much its great to use to keep a style held up n in but for a piecy look try gettin an oil sheen product..... regularly you would spray very little on u hair to get it shiny but if u want a piecy look try sprayin a lil more.... any questions mail me or im me or anythin....

abrazos y besos

you might try john frieda secret weapon to achieve that piecey, ringlet look. dries with a non-greasy feel or film.

If you want to use a pomade, you'll probably have to go for a lighter one, and use less... because if you use too much it'll definitely look greasy.

An inexpensive one I'd recommend would be Got2B Playful Weightless Creme Pomade. It's like a whipped cream texture and smells like vanilla... it's light and it won't weigh down your hair or make it greasy or sticky. I plan on getting some of this tomorrow, because I just got all my hair chopped off and I need something to keep the short layers under control! LOL.
