Hello, I just recently purchased a Neutrogena Microdermabrasion kit from Walgreens and I immediately started using it. So far it's been well until my sister looked at my face and partially freaked out! I rushed to the bathroom and looked into the mirror and one side of my face was puffy not swollen and it looked irritated and gross. Im not sure if it's from the microderm kit or the fact that im using it with a new acne cleaner that purchased. I want to know if anyone else has used this product and experience the same or not.

Any sort of Microdermabrasion system is going to introduce exfoliation onto your skin.  Although some friction is ok to help slough off dead skin, too much pressure can cause you to actually damage your healthy skin.  Acne cleansers also usually have chemicals or particles to help exfoliate the skin too.

Remember, there is such a thing as too much exfoliation!

I can't say exactly what happened, but if it's only on one side, and you used the cleanser on your entire face and microdermed your entire face, I'd say there's a higher chance that you may have used more pressure with the microderm on the side that got swollen.  (If it was your entire face, it might have been either product, or both, or the combination of the two together)

Did the other side of your face look fine?  You may want to lay off of any exfoliation for a week to allow your skin to calm down again.

Thanks! It was just one side of my face but I had no idea that acne clenser had a form of exfoliation in it. Im going to lay off of it for a while then retest it to see if it was the microdermabrasion system

typically acne cleansers will have salicylic acid, which helps break down your outer layer, allowing the cleanser to penetrate deeper into your pores. (you'll also see salicylic acid (it's a Beta Hydroxy Acid, aka BHA) in many anti-aging products as it helps break down your outer layer, thus chemically exfoliating your skin)

Hey girl! Sorry to hear about your experience. I love exfoliating! It's one of my favorite activities to keep the skin looking young and fresh. It's also the secret behind alot of models and actresses.

Anelle is right, salicylic acid is a chemical exfoliater and the microdermabrasion set is also an exfoliator. Using both at once might have been a little but too much for your sensitive skin! I hope you feel better. Also, the smaller the crystals in the microderabrasion, the better results you will see with your skin.

MK has a great Microdermabrasion Set if your looking for something else.

Thanks so much for that. Its making alot of sense . Thanks so much Annelle, I always use ance products that contain salicylic acid, I find peroxide is too harsh for my skin. So I was definitely over exfoliating. Thanks also to you ThinkPinkMK exfoliating is also one of my favorite things to do (as you can see), so I'm not cutting it out of my routine at all I just have to be less frequent and I will totally check it out. The miroderm I have says it has micro crystals!
