I hear a lot of tips for people with thin hair, etc. But I have really thick hair, and I don't know how to take care of it. It seems like I was born with naturally enviable hair (I guess) it's thick, wavy, glossy. But, I can't maintin the waves in the way that I'd like (I like the unpredictable, beachy, crazy wave, not hollywood looking "done" hair)

Does anyone have tips for taking care of thick hair like mine? It seems like the oils in my hair don't build fast enough and it gets dry, limp and heavy when I get out of the shower. I have to wash my hair often enough to keep my scalp healthy, but then my natural oils aren't enough to keep my hair healthy.

I don't know how to ask to get my hair cut, either, in order to promote its wild waves. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I have thick, wavy hair. The last 4 inches of my hair become curly, almost like ringlets - which I hate.

I keep my hair 2 inches past shoulders, for length. I have layers cut into the last 4 inches. Now, I can grow my hair and it doesn't become a bushy triangle shape.

Every 3 days, I wash and condition my hair. I let it dry naturally. Then I apply a flat iron lotion, and flat iron only the curly ends. Finally, I put a drop of serum into my hair, applying only to ends, to give it some shine and softness. I use Got2b products. Every night, I sleep with my hair in a pony tail.

The end result is a soft, controlled wave that lasts for 3 days.

Hope my info helps

Thanks!! I do that but I needed the tips like adding serum only to the ends of my hair, etc.

I read the title of this thread and thought... mine is too!

Momokins when my hair was longer I would sometimes shampoo my scalp, but not all of my hair. I would condition all of my hair though. I'm not sure if this is an option or if it really does work.

I was thinking about getting my hair cut even shorter in order to let it be its crazy self

I've done that before too. Then I always get mad at myself and grow it out again. My current style makes me look like a black haired q-tip. It's so hot!

Would using a shampoo that removes product help?

I use a very inexpensive shampoo - White Rain xtra Body $2 in a tall, clear bottle.

It is quite gentle yet is formulated to remove any build up.

Paula Begoun - who I love - recommends it as well.

If you try it, maybe your hair will not feel so "dry, limp and heavy" after a shower.

I also avoid leave in conditioners, as they make my hair feel greasy.
