hey everyone !

I just got my hair trimmed today and my hair dresser told me if i want my hair subtly lighter to use lemon dish liquid soap on it .. to shampoo it and then condition it after..

does anyone know if this works or has anyone tried it before ?

I recently just colored my hair and it turned to a really dark shade of brown.. so i've been a little down about it ! Just wondering if anyone has heard about this or tried ? and has it worked !!!!!

oh I don't know about that one. Dish soap can't be all that great for you hair. I think I would be looking for a better solution to lightening my hair

It's really harsh -- I would either have the colorist alter it a bit for you, or if you wait for it oxidize first - it'll probably lighten up on its own

I have not heard of using dish soap, but i imagine that i would be very stripping to hair. When my color has come out too dark i used something from Sallys--i've also seen it at walgreens/osco/cvs type stores. I am not sure about the spelling because it has been awhile--MettalRx??? If i remember correctly it was a slightly amber color and very sticky. But my hair did not feel damaged after it actually felt more conditioned. It was not cheap, but i the bottle lasted me forever, for several home coloring mistakes. Hope this helps.

I used metalex and it worked really well, i didnt experience any damage to my hair.

No way in he** I would be putting dish soap on my hair...or going back to that hairdresser. Dish soap dissolves every bit of oil it touches....your hair would be stripped of everything and be dull and dry.

I have acually been doing that off and on for the last two months. That, and mixiing peroxide in my shampoo sometimes. Its actualyy worked really well for me. I used a really good conditioner, and my hair has never been shinier!

Dish soap strips wax off of cars, thats why it is recommended to use a specific car wash liquid. So, if it can strip wax, I wouldnt put it in my hair

I should have mentioned that I was doing it to lighten my hair color....trying to fade the color that I had dyed it.

i've heard of this. I've known people who have done it too and it worked. If you do it, I'd make sure to get a good conditionar in.

i dont think it sounds like that great of an idea...i would just go back to the salon and get it professionally lightened or sit in the sun a lot

Ya I've heard that some salon use "PALMOLIVE" dish soap when they make mistakes it salons. They just put in in fancy bottles so people don't know
