I had layers many years ago, and they worked horribly for me.

For the last few years, I've have thick one-length hair, and it is beginning to drive me insane. Therefore, I think I'm going to travel down the layers road again.

There are a few conflicts though. I'm going to be away at college and will have little time for styling. I just want to wash, blow out, and then go everyday. Deep condition and do hair masks every now and then. I can also go to my hair stylist every few weeks.

So, my question is, what hair style would be the best for me?

Also, here is a recent picture of me that pretty clearly shows my face shape:

I'm on the right.

Honestly, I think you would look great with a bob and maybe even some highlights. That's pretty simple to maintain plus it'll look great on you!

I wouldn't mind getting up early for this, minus the bangs. But I wonder how it'd look if I just washed and dried:

is your hair naturally straight or curly?

I have hair that i would clasifly as loose waves. I find if i put a bit of either a shine product or straightning product in, even if i do not actually style my hair i end up with it much straighter due to being weighed down.

this will also help prevent frizzy bits from forming on the shorter pieces.

This is what my hair looks like when i do nothing but put some product to straighten it in (it does not look polished, but it does come out looking deliberate which is about as much as i can ask for in the mornings)

While it may not look as polished as the pictures you have shown it will not be messy.

The pics of Carrie U and the model will require some work. Both of these ladies have had a lot of work to look great here.

I think a side swept bang would look great.

I think you would look good with the Carrie hair, looks like face framing layers. You can ask the stylist to give you a face frame at your current length, then blow dry it so you could see the full effect. You can then alter the length, since it seems you like your hair longer.

How about longer layers? I'm not a hairstylist, so you may not want to listen to me, but maybe longer layers would require less work? And maybe go a few inches shorter? I know myself having had long hair my whole life, the idea of a bob makes me cringe. If anybody wanted successfully interrogate me for intel, all they would have to do is hold scissors to my hair and I'd be DONE.

So yeah maybe shorter with longer layers, and maybe some nicely placed highlights ?

The important thing to remember is that you need to make it clear to the stylist just how short you want the shortest layer to be. I usually get my shortest layer around the middle-top of my ears, but that's because I like to go for choppy and slightly rock looking hair. I'd say your shortest should be at your chin, that way it gives room for more below it without being dramatic.
